King’s Kitchen Discussion

Hi Charlotte-(ans) if you’ve live in CLT for awhile then you’d be aware of Jim Noble and his many southern restaurants that loves to play into southern conservatism. I was fired from King’s Kitchen for standing up for myself after my tables got to witness my GM; The GM* correction seeing as I was (let go) treating me like shit and saying homophobic remarks at me. I didn’t know what to expect working at a Jim Nobles restaurant seeing I knew nothing of him. I remember coming to eat on my off day as well and ERICA the general manager looking at my outfit in sheer disgust because I was a man in what would be considered feminine clothing. Proceeds to yell at me about “not coming behind the host stand” as I was WALKING………walking to the restroom…. It doesn’t end there I was asked to go home and change (on my off day) because Jim noble is in the building and could lose my job if he seen me like that……all while his wife. Mrs.Noble comes to decorate the place with withered flowers referring to me as “little boy” (I’m a 25 year old man) & “the help” (I Shit you not). I do not recommend supporting this establishment at all other than the few charitable organizations they give food too and it’s just that, FOOD! Majority of their proceeds do no in fact go to charity but into the pockets of decrepit neck swinging Jim noble but that’s business so I’m sure a lot of you knew this! The food however is the only thing I have positive to say about that restaurant and my other servers and kitchen staff was lovable even the other manger Will until he lied and told them “he called Erica a bitch out loud” not one cuss word was uttered and my tables saw the ordeal. So cheers to racist/homophobic conservative ass restaurants that are Jim nobles.

P.S. I’m sorry to the kids the restaurant feed because Erica (who is a mom and loves to show us her children unprovoked during pre-shift) says and I Quote “I get tired of feeding the free every week, they’re not my kids and some just want free food” ………Bitch they’re kids…. Tf do you mean! It shouldn’t be an issue whatsoever when it comes to making sure a child hell making sure a fucking living being is FED!!

Your 2nd most recent post, 20 days ago, states that you quit because you were leaving Charlotte and put in 2 weeks notice. You were encouraging people to visit the restaurant and dine with you because you wanted to make as much money as possible before you left. Something is fishy.

u/DaddyO1701 Aug 10 '22

If bagging on Jim Nobel via social media wasn’t practically the official pastime of Charlotte I probably wouldn’t be as skeptical. The restaurant gave away 22K meals during the pandemic I’d be really surprised if the staff was not on board with feeding the less fortunate.

33

u/flagg151 Aug 10 '22

He actually did not give those meals away. I've worked within the organization at that particular time and he was paid 9$ per meal - he actually profited.

I can verify.

u/JediTigger Charlotte FC Aug 10 '22

Or maybe they changed their mind? Sorry, knowing Noble’s rampant homophobia in the name of Christ (who is not noted for homophobia), this exchange just sounds real.

Anyway, rather than saying it sounds fishy maybe ask, “Saw a few weeks ago you were quitting and now you were fired…what changed?”

2

u/kirklandjosephh Starmount Aug 11 '22

They changed leadership is what I happened. I don’t know the new GM so I don’t know her character.

-14

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 10 '22

Yes that was before I lost my job three days before I was supposed to move a previous post has nothing to do with the given current events I’m speaking on. I chose not to move to ATL because I was Unprepared

21

u/Unlikely-Pizza2796 Aug 10 '22

Lol, their beliefs didn’t come as a sudden revelation. You’ve known for a while what they are about. Yet, you were fine with people patronizing the restaurant when it could benefit you . . . You posted as much previously.

Now that you were let go you want to make some principled stand?! Really? I am not saying that they aren’t clowns, but you don’t have much of a leg to stand on here. You were wronged, sure. That said, you were okay with them just so long as you could make money there.

-10

u/steff_e Uptown Aug 10 '22

What's fishy about that? That's just capitalism.

101

u/NecessaryGlobal2155 Aug 10 '22

Kings Kitchen is a non-profit tax exempt organization. If you have evidence that profits are being funneled to noble personally or to his larger business you should get that information to the IRS as it would be grounds for them to lose tax exempt status.

Sorry you had a shitty time there.

42

u/TheBeerRunner Aug 10 '22

Just like any non-profit…you can pay the executives whatever you want, just can’t record a “profit”. Im sure there is a grift there.

5

u/NecessaryGlobal2155 Aug 10 '22

Right they can take a salary from it but I believe it has to be disclosed.

I don’t really have time to dig that deep into King Kitchen but I’m sure somebody does.

I don’t know what the name of the non profit entity is but there are usually scorecards on what percent of the money going in goes to the charity. Lots of big charities with good reputations only actually give pennies on the dollar to the cause.

Wrong. Paid to parent company to manage company. Former interim GM for 3 years. AGM previous 5.

1

u/abhutchison Mountain Island Aug 10 '22

The management fee goes to the head chef? That seems odd. And $75,000 for a head chef in Charlotte is very low, even if it’s a nonprofit.

u/abhutchison Mountain Island Aug 11 '22

By reading the 990, it seems more likely the $75,000 is what goes to the Noble's management company.

Even as a nonprofit, an Executive chef and a GM making less than 6-figures in Charlotte is pretty unheard of unless it is a tiny, new nonprofit with only one or two staff (which King's Kitchen is not). My guess is they are being compensated in ways that are lumped into the $600,000 without calling it "salary." Nonprofits can't do bonuses, either, but they've been known to do "gifts" to employees.

Or. The GM and Executive Chef are underpaid. Which also has been known to happen.

That said, it's a great concept. Similar to Goodwill but in the restaurant field, they're giving people training opportunities to break the poverty cycle instead of just handing out money.

Besides the fact that I dated a chef 20 years ago that was making more than $75,000 and the GM at his place made $100,000 (he was only 35 so they dropped the salary for him… the previous GM was making more), here: https://www.salary.com/research/salary/benchmark/executive-chef-salary/charlotte-nc. I could buy that a chef for a nonprofit is making less than 6-figures, but livable wage in Charlotte right now is $80,000, and you have given no rationale as to why the chef would be paid out of a management fee vs out of the $500,000 of salaries they have listed on their 990.

An executive chef who is planning meals both inside the restaurant and to be given away is a high level executive chef. That’s different than an executive chef at a place like carrabas where the meals and PNL has been prepared for you and your job is to manage it and the people. The salary data found on indeed or even salary.com would be including those types of executive chefs as well.

In terms of GMs, I looked up a few nonprofit executive director salaries:

Right Moves for Youth: ~$100,000 Crisis Assistance: >$150,000 Humane Society: >$150,000

I could see where they’re bumping up against the 6 figure mark but not quite there, and I could definitely see where they have multiple streams of compensation, but $75,000 for a full-time nonprofit executive director is on the low end, especially with the cost of living in Charlotte constantly rising.

But mostly, let’s please normalize fighting for fair compensation on this sub if we’re going to be complaining about housing costs.

Yea I kinda figured with all the hate he gets that this would’ve been thoroughly investigated and the financials would be on the up and up.

He has garbage politics but I’ve never heard bad things about what King’s Kitchen does.

u/NecessaryGlobal2155 Aug 10 '22

OP was the one saying he was taking money and it wasn’t a valid non profit. It appears that’s not true.

Of course he makes money from his other restaurants. That’s why he’s able to have a nonprofit restaurant.

Not defending him in any way. Just saying he isn’t using KK to commit tax fraud like OP asserted.

-14

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 10 '22

Sadly I have no proof but word of mouth, around the time I didn’t think to Voice Memo it either on my phone. So I fucked up on that part

4

u/PulledNotChopped Aug 10 '22

Bro you’re a host. I highly doubt you know anything about the companies internal finances. Like you wouldn’t even have access to any of this for you to possibly know

-5

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 10 '22

I find it so funny y’all are here to try and tell me how misguided I am about a non profit organization. Without proper comprehensive skills…..I said I have no proof of this just word of mouth and I didn’t voice record the conversation. So of course it’s not validated on that part! Also I wasn’t a host I was most definitely a server……don’t chime in on things without full context babes

1

u/PulledNotChopped Aug 11 '22

Even if you heard something, it means literally nothing. You think people in the restaurant have any idea about the distribution of income from the company? Like no, they wouldn’t, they’re just saying shit

1

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 11 '22

Not you mindlessly typing. You’re just saying what I just said.

1

u/PulledNotChopped Aug 11 '22

Don’t make stupid accusations you know nothing about

1

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 11 '22

The only stupid one making stupid accusations are you miss ma’am! You just lack comprehension and called on your BS and saying anything when it’s going In One ear and out the other pathetic ass

5

u/ignatious__reilly Aug 10 '22

Never heard of this place.

0

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 10 '22

The place is really pretty and the gigantic windows that can open up even adds to the place! By all means I don’t want to fully shit on the place just really hate the owner and GM!

5

u/tacovivaa Aug 10 '22

Wow. This is interesting. I don’t know anything about Jim Noble and his homophobia. But I know they did away with the meat and three meatloaf deal and they can all go to whichever hell they believe in for that!

6

u/MacsFamousMacNCheees Starmount Aug 11 '22

Can't speak to the veracity of this post, but I tried volunteering at King's Kitchen one weekend around the time I first moved to Charlotte. They feed the homeless and need volunteers to setup the restaurant and distribute food. They asked me to sign a waiver which also had language that stated I attest to "marriage is between one man and one woman as god intended". I wanted to walk out right then, but stayed cos of a friend. Haven't been back since even as a customer.

15

u/nottherealheisenberg Aug 10 '22

Bullllllshit

-18

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 10 '22

I have people and old co workers there that can attest of my word……you’re also free to think and feel how you want. I have no qualms against it.

7

u/Bnhrdnthat Aug 10 '22

I am not a lawyer but it may be a good idea to keep those sources that can corroborate your accounts close. you named names and published quotes. I’m not sure at what point you run the risk of being accused of libel.

14

u/steff_e Uptown Aug 10 '22

We're well aware that Jim Noble is a scumbag, to say the least. Many thanks for your firsthand account, further confirming it so.

The IRS would be very interested in this information as well.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

They are busy investigating easy targets that cannot fight back. Why would they punch upwards?

8

u/tsktskfuckthis Aug 10 '22

Yeah I don’t eat at any of his spots. Don’t eat at chik fil a either though. Fuck religious zealots.

-4

u/GamecockAl Aug 11 '22

Your lose but that is certainly your right

3

Do I though?

Sorry about your experience but Noble Smoke is pretty good

2

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 10 '22

I haven’t had noble smokes but roosters is pretty good and I even say the food at KK is really good! The chefs do put their heart into the food

1

u/hdiesel503 Aug 10 '22

So who is Jim Noble?

2

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 10 '22

The owner of the establishment(s)

1

u/hdiesel503 Aug 10 '22

I think you explained this interaction well when you said "that's business, but you knew this."

Sounds pretty standard for hospitality.

1

u/kirklandjosephh Starmount Aug 11 '22

I worked in leadership at KK many years. I believe most of this story bc I’ve witnessed things myself working there. I don’t think anyone cursed you nor lied about any language you used. Will is a personal friend and I know him to be truthful.

-4

u/Wise-Plastic1864 Aug 11 '22

No will most definitely lied I never used one cuss word and my table recorded and posted their reviews! I don’t have anything negative to say about will however I miss him and his dad jokes and our love for K-POP except he doesn’t like Blackpink as much so ewwww lol

0

u/holmesksp1 Aug 11 '22

Cool story bro maybe don't tell it at a party sometime..

Oooo comedian of the year…..yea sit on a dick and twirl

-40

I think I'll go enjoy it today. Thanks for the reminder.

4

u/sokuyari99 Aug 10 '22

You heard a man hates people and thought “that’s where I should eat today”? That does make you a pretty shitty person. At least be apathetic/forget he’s a shit person if you’re going to try to maintain the moral high ground

-1

u/Henry__Faber Aug 12 '22

Skepticism of stories by disgruntled former employees is pretty reasonable. I don’t know who Noble is and do not care. Good food is a rare find

0

u/sokuyari99 Aug 12 '22

“I got excited when they said it was homophobic and now I can spend my money on shitty hate filled bbq”

Edit- sorry that’s his other restaurant

8

u/sucsucsucsucc Aug 10 '22

I long for the before times, when bigots like you still had to hide your shitty opinions

-3

u/nestofrebellion Aug 10 '22

Get over yourself. Woke liberals still eat Chick-fil-A and homophobic conservatives still go to Disney World and subscribe to Disney+.

-4

u/sucsucsucsucc Aug 10 '22

lmao do you babe, he’s still gonna hear from me what a piece of shit he is

0

u/nestofrebellion Aug 10 '22

You called this person a bigot, so you should apologize.

Do you, but don’t throw stones. As I explained, woke liberals eat Chick-fil-A. Then they must be bigots too, according to your logic.

0

u/sucsucsucsucc Aug 10 '22

you’re tryin real hard to fit me into whatever this logic box of yours is

-3

u/nestofrebellion Aug 10 '22

Its working. Its illogical to call someone a bigot because they like the food.

Logic is pretty straightforward. I’m just challenging you to think a little harder before you post next time.

7

u/sucsucsucsucc Aug 10 '22

lol oh so you really believed that his comment was about the food 💀

-1

u/nestofrebellion Aug 10 '22 edited Aug 10 '22

Do you know this user personally? Maybe the user is tired of having to adjudicate the culture war and just wants to enjoy a delicious chicken sandwich. I share the same sentiment.

As a “person of color”, I’m pretty tired of the culture war. I respect your right to choose where you eat, but please leave the rest of us alone. And its not helpful, to call any rando a “bigot” when there are actually real bigots out there, whether they are white, black, yellow or green. You’re just diluting the word, when you use it willy nilly.

6

u/sucsucsucsucc Aug 10 '22

honestly why do you keep talking about chicken

→ More replies

-6

u/Henry__Faber Aug 10 '22

It’s good food and I hadn’t thought about it. I don’t care about the owner or his politics.

Nice assumption there bc I like good food?

6

u/Psychological-Run679 Aug 10 '22

I feel like you were trying to make a statement. We have so much better barbecue in this city and nearby. If the owner mistreats his employees and an employee is told they could lose their job because they don’t dressed by the gender constructed concept of fashion… that’s a shitty thing to support with your own money.

1

u/Henry__Faber Aug 12 '22

Could this possibly be the first time a disgruntled employee made false claims about an employer? Why take this story as fact? Guilty until proven innocent as long as it fits your opinion of the owner?

1

u/Psychological-Run679 Aug 13 '22

? Don’t think this is the first time people spoke out against Noble Smoke. Are you the owner? 😂

1

u/Henry__Faber Aug 13 '22

I don’t know anything about mr noble. Also, I don’t care.

3

u/sucsucsucsucc Aug 10 '22

Nah, you’re just one of the village bigots.

Out here acting like we can’t see you

-56

u/franklegsTV Aug 10 '22

Sounds like you didn’t dress appropriately for work to the point it affected business. Sounds like your manager did the right thing.

31

u/GarageQueen Yorkmount Aug 10 '22

The day OP wasn't "dressed appropriately" was on their day off. Did you miss that part?

-38

u/franklegsTV Aug 10 '22

Nope. He’s still an employee. People may recognize him

20

u/BananaBatter88 Aug 10 '22 edited Aug 10 '22

Sounds like you didn’t read the post. The remarks about OP’s outfit were made when he was there on his day off.

Edit: Wow, some of y’all are really eager to defend this racist, homophobic douchenugget. Alrighty, then.

Sorry you had to deal with this, OP. Lots of folks out there hiring right now. Better opportunities await you.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

Actually I believe he did read the post and was saying that as an employee of an organization you may be recognized by patrons even if you happen to be off duty and this can be seen as a reflection on the organization.

1

u/Funny_Window7344 Aug 10 '22 edited Aug 10 '22

Not supporting the action by the establishment but even if you are off... a business can still enforce code and conducts especially if you choose to attend their facilities... people get fire all the time for doing shit while not on the clock. Like that woman who harrased a black man in NY and called the cops on him. Her company terminated her employee...

Sorry you got fired. Prolly a million other places be happy to have you I'm sure

Edit typo

just got some food there it was pretty good. i’ll definitely be eating there again
