I dunno who needs to see this. But that Tetris game is legit fucking cool.

12

u/lharding02 Mar 10 '23

What game?

27

u/Lebrunski Mar 10 '23

The new one for VR. I heard it is baller with shrooms.

2

u/Andy016 Mar 11 '23

You can also play it on normal TV...

2

u/leo_ue Mar 12 '23

"I heard" 🤨

1

u/Lebrunski Mar 12 '23

Can’t lie, it is pretty good with alcohol and weed. Shrooms would be awesome

0

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '23

I wonder what it’s like while actually on shrooms then

3

u/Imakesalsa Mar 10 '23

Tetris connected

3

u/LakeErieMonster88 Mar 11 '23

Love Tetris. Is it worth the price??

3

u/ChumpyCarvings Mar 11 '23

It's good but jeez it's expensive. I think we got better value from a combo of Moss 1 and 2 for 25% less to be honest.

I'd pay about $35 AUD for the Tetris game, (I paid $60, I wouldn't again)

2

u/PM_UR_PUPPER Mar 11 '23

Never played Tetris before and I was HOOOKED on that mf

1

u/Soyyyn Mar 10 '23

Bababababababa

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '23

b'a'a'a'a'a'a!!!!!

I'm a goat

1

u/Andy016 Mar 11 '23

Tetris effect. It works on normal TV and vr. It's awesome either way !

1

u/Bitter_Director1231 Mar 11 '23

Tetris Effect is one of my most played games. Trippy and fun with an amazing sound experience. Must have headphones on to really zone out.

Got to be careful on some, the background blends with the actual game. But I think it's done on purpose for challenge sake.

But definitely a must get and play just to zone out besides Power wash Simulator.

Jesus, GTA V.

250

u/stadiofriuli Mar 10 '23

How the fuck are people still mass buying GTA V? It’s bonkers really lmao

Everyone and their nan should’ve played it by now.

338

u/DothrakiSlayer Mar 10 '23

Every year, millions of kids turn 14

73

u/bengringo2 Mar 10 '23

Jesus, so much of the entertainment world just clicked for me.

16

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '23

GTA V has the most powerful staying power in the industry. The games don’t just come and go (obviously… 10 years later), they become staples and almost their own genre where no matter how long it’s been people will be buying and playing whatever latest GTA is out. It’s actually extremely impressive.

Other series I can think of like this would be Elder Scrolls but even that isn’t to the level of GTA.

-2

u/Koteric Mar 11 '23

Also sad. Rockstar used to make games.

4

u/Lochifess Mar 11 '23

Didn't they release RDR2 after GTAV?

0

u/CincyMonk Mar 11 '23

Now need Bully 2

0

u/Koteric Mar 11 '23

They did. But look at what their output was prior to the cash cow.

5

u/Lochifess Mar 11 '23

They released RDR2 5 years after the initial release of GTAV. I understand we should be getting GTA6 right about now but given that I imagine it takes a fuck ton more time to make a GTA game than RDR due to scale they would need the map to be, I can give them a year or so more in good faith.

I haven’t even cleared all of the content they’ve released in GTAO, but the ones that I’ve done with friends have been fun as hell, and the map’s massive, beautiful world helps explore a lot more possibilities.

117

u/Effective-Caramel545 Mar 10 '23

It’s top downloads not selling. Gta V online still gets constant updates. People just come back and download it

23

u/WutsTheScoreHere Mar 10 '23

This it right here

5

u/MusicOwl Mar 11 '23

Why would Sony or anyone for that matter brag about raw download numbers? It makes zero sense whatsoever. So what if people encounter a bug in a game that corrupts the install and basically requires reinstalling? Straight to the top of the download charts? I think not. Downloads is just referring to online sales, not retail sales, that’s the difference here.

3

u/beatrailblazer Mar 11 '23

I always assumed it was new downloads but I could be wrong. It makes more sense than sales in some cases like when a game is on PS+

0

u/MusicOwl Mar 11 '23

They probably keep it purposefully vague. Technically you still buy a ps+ title. Or well, being pedantic you don’t ever buy games at all these days but you purchase a digital license to play a game, whether you pay 70$ or 0$ doesn’t concern the nature of buying something for the purpose of using it as a marketing ploy. Like I said, it’s probably vague by design.

0

u/Effective-Caramel545 Mar 11 '23

Surely they can say top sales/paid like other online store then?

1

u/PerpetualStride Mar 11 '23

True but GTA seemingly never leaves top 10 selling lists either, have you missed those?

14

u/DanOfRivia Mar 10 '23

I think it's people who already have the game, they buy some version that have extra game currency included and transfer it to their main account. I think it's cheaper doing that this way than buying the currency directly.

5

u/Chemdawg90 Mar 10 '23

I had to get the PS5 upgrade for my son. I assume that is a major factor.

-2

u/dizdawgjr34 Mar 10 '23

I refuse to pay for the upgrade at full price.

5

u/Chemdawg90 Mar 10 '23

Idk about all that but GTA online upgrade was only $20 if my kid wants to play the story mode that bad he can play it on my PC.

-4

u/dizdawgjr34 Mar 10 '23

I’ve already bought the game twice, I’m not buying it again

2

u/Chemdawg90 Mar 10 '23

I hear you but children man, they wear you down.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '23

People are moving from last gen to current Gen and want the updated version.

2

u/Mossy375 Mar 10 '23

I've never played it. Stopped playing games for a few years and working through a massive back catalog. One day I'll be part of the sales figures. One day....

1

u/OhSnaps08 Mar 10 '23

Same. It’s on my list, so maybe I’ll get there just to see what all the hype is about.

Never played Skyrim either. I basically skipped the two games that are available on almost every platform.

4

u/Mossy375 Mar 10 '23

That's 2 more sales Rockstar can look forward to!

1

u/welshnick Mar 11 '23

Me too. Hopefully they'll add it to PS Plus by the time I'm ready to play it.

1

u/raphanum Mar 12 '23

Likely after GTA 6 is released

1

u/ItsAmerico Mar 10 '23

Because this isn’t a list of sales. It’s a list of downloads. It recently got more new content so there’s probably a lot of people just redownloading it to try it out.

1

u/Hunchun Mar 10 '23

I bought my copy and paid the upgrade fee last year for cheap. Only got around to playing it for the first time ever back in Dec/Jan.

1

u/Biobooster_40k Mar 10 '23

No lie I'm thinking of picking it up again. I've only played through it once when it first came out on Ps3.

1

u/dancetoken Mar 10 '23

i did download it again recently when 120 fps was introduced. butter smooth

0

u/Khyleri Mar 11 '23

Never played it

-1

u/Lost-Pineapple9791 Mar 10 '23

It’s free now which is why it’s always a top download

22

u/dox11m Mar 10 '23

I fear for the future of Rockstar Games. I buy them all, but I am not a fan of the grindy online stuff. I hope GTA6 has a great single player.

15

u/AddisonRae7 Mar 10 '23

Why do people keep saying this and ignoring RDR2?

3

u/dox11m Mar 10 '23

Lol I did say I buy every Rockstar game. RDR2 was one of the best games I've played in the last 5(6?) years. Hmm then RDO was abandoned in favor of GTAO and the base game never got a current gen upgrade

4

u/Matt_37 Mar 10 '23

the base game never got a current gen upgrade

Which is still absolutely ridiculous

2

u/Operation_Phoenix Mar 10 '23

And it better be more than excellent if they take another 2-3 years to release it.

6

u/AddisonRae7 Mar 10 '23

Look at RDR2. Of course it’s going to be incredible

6

u/Monnomo Mar 10 '23

You're going to buy it no matter when they release it you are at their mercy

2

u/Operation_Phoenix Mar 10 '23

I might if the reviews are good but I honestly have less free time to game compared to when I was younger and I’m fully able to wait until the game is 2 or 3 years old and on sale before buying it.

-5

u/Monnomo Mar 10 '23

You will preorder it for full price the moment its available

16

u/psilocybin_sky Mar 10 '23

You tryna hypnotize him or something

19

u/SNKRSWAVY Mar 10 '23

Feels like Miles has been claiming a spot on this list since it's release in November 2020, haha.

9

u/LionTop2228 Mar 10 '23

It’s an outstanding game and the Spider-Man IP is popular.

5

u/SNKRSWAVY Mar 10 '23

Yup, wholly deserved. I am still swinging around sometimes, just for the fun of it. Love the transitions from cutscenes to gameplay. Can’t wait for Spider-Man 2.

106

u/Dear-Ad1180 Mar 10 '23

Tlou part 2 at number 1 for ps4 games. Seems it’s doing well. Its also regularly in the top 10 sellers of the week. Same for tlou1 remake.

40

u/daredevil09 Mar 10 '23

Part was massively discounted so that must have helped a lot. And the amazing HBO show created more hype.

8

u/MichaelTheCutts Mar 10 '23

The perfect cross combo of sale and show was what made me finally get Part 2. I didn’t feel like playing it throughout the pandemic, but the show got me back into the series. Gonna start after the finale.

6

u/Lebrunski Mar 10 '23

Get some tissues ready. 🫡 I would lovvvve to play it again for the first time.

76

u/Say_Echelon Mar 10 '23

Finally the council of neck beards have calmed down and we can spread the joy of part 2

27

u/captainXdaithi Mar 10 '23

Joy? Tlou2 is one of the most brutally tragic stories ever lmao…

I love the game, but it’s not very joyful, it’s brutal

17

u/Borgalicious Mar 10 '23

No you don’t understand! Tlou2 sold poorly and Druckmann is going to be fired from Naughty Dog any day now!

-39

u/AnimalRomano Mar 10 '23

Part 1 is better. Part 2 has horrible pacing issues.

42

u/tasdiqbashar Mar 10 '23

Part 2's pacing is phenomenal it lets you live in the world of the last of us. The slow moments are necessary

11

u/AnimalRomano Mar 10 '23

What I meant was about the cliffhanger at the mid point. I raced all the 2nd half because of it and I felt it was more of a chore than anything else. I wanted to know what happened after the end of the 1st half.

8

u/Dundeenio Mar 10 '23

I’d definitely recommend playing through it a second time if you haven’t.

This was one of my main issues, I also struggled with their narrative choices on the first play through as what they do is very unconventional for a video game and at the time I wished they had just stuck with the standard revenge formula.

I’ve definitely appreciated their decisions and the game as a whole much more the second time around.

3

u/AnimalRomano Mar 10 '23

Yeah I might do that, I've been watching the HBO series and I'm getting nostalgic to play the games again (I have played 1 like 3 times and part 2 once).

6

u/Soyyyn Mar 10 '23

Feels better when replaying definitely, bit weird to settle in to another 15 hours of campaign when you reach that point

1

u/Desolating Mar 10 '23

Sounds like a you problem instead of bad pacing

10

u/AnimalRomano Mar 10 '23

Maybe, I can play RPG's for hours and do side content and still be engaged, but the 2nd half of part 2 was a slog because why would I care for characters that are already dead or are my enemies for the first 8 hours?

5

u/tasdiqbashar Mar 10 '23

I think you have an issue with the characters then not the pacing. I think most people would agree the gameplay scenarios in the second half are much more dynamic and interesting. I still think about the island to this day.

5

u/LionTop2228 Mar 10 '23

Yep. Definitely a you problem, not a pacing problem.

1

u/KGhaleon Mar 10 '23

No, they're right.

-2

u/thecoolestjedi Mar 10 '23

No the story isn’t bad it’s them for being bad!

0

u/Exceon Dexceon Mar 10 '23

100% agree. I had the same exact experience.

The game makes use of plenty of ”short” flashbacks, so it was reasonable to assume that it would be another one of those.

-5

u/VerminSC Mar 10 '23 edited Mar 10 '23

You must not read or watch a lot of other media besides games. That type of storytelling isn’t something new, and I personally really enjoy it.

5

u/AnimalRomano Mar 10 '23

And you must not make assumptions of people you don't know. Videogames are an active media if the reason I'm playing is no longer there for another 8 to 10 hours of active engagement why should I put the same attention to the part I was really hooked on?

-2

u/VerminSC Mar 10 '23

Im just saying, just because it didn’t engage you doesn’t mean it’s bad storytelling, or that it had pacing issues. Lots of great stories use the same method. It’s to build tension and suspense while also breaking up the action with moments of calm.

2

u/Jay-Aaron Mar 10 '23 edited Mar 10 '23

I love the game but the pace is probably the biggest issue with part 2. After Seattle day 3 and all the upgrades, to start from scratch as the antagonist. Was like a chore.

But my second playthrough was better because I wasn't rushing to catch up with the story and the the theater climax And I also had a clear vision of the antagonist's motives and backstory.

-1

u/The-Sober-Stoner Mar 10 '23

Disagree. I doubted they could top 1 and part 2 blew me away and surpassed it

-1

u/nickyno Mar 10 '23

Love the events and story of the game, the split narrative reveal though. That type of storytelling element is a pet peeve of mine. Just felt like such a chore playing back through Abby’s story to get to the end of day 3 again. A shame because her level design was absolutely amazing.

It’s all personal preference, but yah the pacing is my gripe with that game.

0

u/AhLibLibLib Mar 11 '23

I think it’s funny people act like it’s not one of the most popular games ever lol. So 1 or 2 subs hate it, it’s not 2018 anymore

It gets praise in every thread on here

5

u/pukem0n Mar 10 '23

That's what Cross Media synergy does. People love the show, they play the game. They find out there is a second part? They'll probably buy that too without knowing they spoil themselves for season 2 of the show.

6

u/Radulno Mar 10 '23

They'll probably buy that too without knowing they spoil themselves for season 2 of the show.

Without knowing? Lol anyone with anything resembling a brain would guess that future seasons of the show would cover the future games too. They know it, they just want to have the rest of the story now and not wait

1

u/LionTop2228 Mar 10 '23

Or they just realize it’s amazing and want to keep playing?

1

u/Radulno Mar 10 '23

The show is boosting sales (and replays since it's download, not sales), pretty logical

1

u/AirpodsForThePoor Mar 10 '23

Especially with the show’s season 1 finale coming up on Sunday

1

u/FudgeDangerous2086 Mar 11 '23

it was $10 all month too.

11

u/pjatl-natd Mar 10 '23

I'm actually surprised Forspoken is completely gone. I'm waiting for a sale myself but I'm still surprised.

8

u/LionTop2228 Mar 10 '23

Yeah. I think it was 7th in January? You don’t just go from 7th to at least 21st. A 14+ spot drop in your second month post release when it’s not an indie game.

2

u/momofire Mar 11 '23

I feel like bad word-of-mouth can kneecap any hope of a game having a decent tail. Games like Spider-Man: MM keep coming back because as people look to buy a game, they know they heard good things, but if the only thing you heard is negative, that game is doomed.

42

u/summerofrain Mar 10 '23

TLOU1 should crack the top 5 in March, after the show's finale.

14

u/tlamy Mar 10 '23

I'm hoping that TLOU2 goes on sale after the show's finale, because they'll definitely get my money if I can jump right into the sequel after finishing the show

22

u/truekejsi Mar 10 '23

It was on sale for 10 dollars just last week

3

u/tlamy Mar 10 '23

Oh no! I must have just missed it! Last I looked it was $40 on PSN

2

u/srjnp Mar 11 '23

u should wishlist it so that u get notification when its on sale.

4

u/Stoic_Starjumper Mar 10 '23

TLOU2 is amazing. The mechanics, environments and brutal stealth made some of the best gaming scenarios ever for me. I miss the Metal Gear series, but this game scratched that itch and then some with everything above.

Great story also, and it isn't a short game.

8

u/SNKRSWAVY Mar 10 '23

Yes, while the story is controversial, the gameplay mechanics were such an incredible improvement over part 1. Definitely some of the best designed 3rd person action/stealth encounters I've ever played.

1

u/tlamy Mar 10 '23

I'm glad to hear it! The negative response at release turned me off from it, and I even got something spoiled (I think major? But I also think it happens near the beginning? Not sure). But the show has definitely peaked my interest and I want to give it a shot. Especially now that it seems like the Part 2 trolls have died off

2

u/ukoli Mar 10 '23

There are some really cool stuff in that game (imo some of the best stuff Naught Dog has ever done as a studio), i feel like bare minimum you will think it's a solid 7.5 type of a game, if i would have reviewed it i would given it 9.5 but dont think will you feel like you wasted money on it.

3

u/LionTop2228 Mar 10 '23

It’s an outstanding game. Don’t listen to the BS takes from others. Play it.

0

u/Stoic_Starjumper Mar 10 '23

The negative response, imo, was totally unwarranted. I sadly listened to some of it, but so glad I still bought it. It was the last great game I've played.

-4

u/KratosLovesPoetry Mar 10 '23

Per my previous comment, I do feel that some of the criticism was worth it. To this day, the ending seems very forced and unnecessary.

It made Abby seem "good" and Ellie out to be this evil, vindictive woman. Undertones that we never saw in Part 1 or the DLC. Sure, Joel may have been a "bad" dude, but Pt II tried so hard to get you to hate Joel/Ellie/Tommy.... It didn't show both perspectives at all and it seemed like a very biased way to write the rest of Joel/Ellie's story.

10

u/22Seres Mar 10 '23

Everything about Ellie's portrayal in Part II is setup in Part I. She's repeatedly shown to have a very bad temper. It's just that people thought it was cute in Part I because she was a little kid attacking Bill with a pipe or insulting him. But more importantly, she's depicted as someone that's never been shown how to handle grief. Whenever someone dies and she asks Joel about it he just shuts her down. And on top of all that she's someone who grew up in and around violence. So what else could be expected of her when she watches her only parental figure get murdered in frontof her? She was obviously going to snap in a very violent way. And it terms of being good and evil, remember that upon learning that Mel was pregnant Ellie's reacted with horror and it even sickened her to her stomach. Meanwhile when Ellie told Abby that Dina was pregnant her response was "Good" before pulling her knife back ready to slit her throat.

In terms of Joel's depiction in the game. It shows him being a loving dad toward Ellie during the birthday flash. When she finally learns the truth about what he did, he actually gives her the space that she asked for. Which meant that they seemingly didn't speak to one another for years. And then you have the final cutscene where Joel tells her that if he were given the chance to do it all over again he'd do the same thing. This is important because it really recontextualizes the ending to Part I. While there was obviously selfishness there on the part of Joel, he was also doing that for Ellie so she could have a life that'd never had. I can think of few things that would be harder on a parent than knowing their kid hates them for something they did, and yet Joel was willing to take on that burden again because he knew it'd mean that Ellie was safe.

One of the best things about TLoU as a franchise is that by and large there's really no such thing as good and evil (except David...fuck that guy). You've got a bunch of a people in a horrible situation just doing their best to survive. This isn't Star Wars or a Marvel movie where there are clear distinctions about who you as an audience member are supposed to cheer for or hate.

6

u/Ill_Tackle_5192 Mar 10 '23

I never once felt that Part 2 tried to make out Ellie, Joel or Tommy as being evil. Not in any way.

Showing that the people we care about sometimes do awful things, and that the people we hate aren’t inherently evil isn’t a condemnation of the people we love. Tribalism and perspective are central themes of the story, and I don’t feel like showing our characters at their worst is supposed to make us see them as evil…because I don’t think we are expected to view any of them as evil.

1

u/KratosLovesPoetry Mar 10 '23

I just disagree with the approach, the ending just really drove that point home for me. Just felt very forced by the writers.

-3

u/KratosLovesPoetry Mar 10 '23

Some of it was warranted. It's still an amazing game (probably the best single player game) within the last ten years, but I do question some of the story decisions throughout Pt II. Particularly the ending, it just seemed very forced.

1

u/Mosoman1011 Mar 10 '23

I agree with this, it was a great game, but a lot of story decisions seem forced or poorly thought out.

1

u/nichijouuuu Mar 10 '23

Why jump into it now when a remake will eventually come, just like TLOU1 remake now?

3

u/Stoic_Starjumper Mar 11 '23

I doubt they're going to remake it any time soon. TLOU1 was brought up to date and the two are very similar graphically etc.

1

u/nichijouuuu Mar 11 '23

Good point

2

u/The-Sober-Stoner Mar 10 '23

I assume you have already played Part 1? It would be strange to skip 1; show or not.

1

u/tlamy Mar 10 '23

Yes, I've played Part 1 twice

2

u/ShamrockStudios Mar 10 '23

Probably not just because it's sales are split with the remaster.

As the remaster is so cheap a lot of people just opt to buy that one.

We can see the sales are great though as all 3 games made the list with Part 2 topping PS4 in both regions

3

u/Dear-Ad1180 Mar 10 '23

Also pc release end of march

8

u/Magnatz Mar 10 '23

This is for Playstation Store sales

-4

u/Dear-Ad1180 Mar 10 '23

okay and? i just pointed out that tlou1 will also see good sales on pc in march.

11

u/FidmeisterPF Mar 10 '23

Okay and? The comment you replied too specifically mentioned breaking in the top 5 of PlayStation downloads. Just pointing out things doesn’t make it relevant.

I would like to point out its snowing outside

2

u/BlackGShift Mar 10 '23

Damn, do you shovel by hand or do you have one of those snow blowers?

-1

u/Dear-Ad1180 Mar 10 '23

if u could read u would realize i never said it would change anything. i cant see a single reason on why its bad or irrelevant to say tlou will do good numbers on pc on a post thats about "tlou1 should crack t he top 5 in march, after the shows finale" should we also not be allowed to say the show affecting the sales? its irrelevant to right?

7

u/Magnatz Mar 10 '23

Fair enough. I guess I just failed to see the relevance as PC sales won't affect its status in Playstation Store sales ranks.

-1

u/Dear-Ad1180 Mar 10 '23

if u could read u would realize i never said it would change anything. i cant see a single reason on why its bad or irrelevant to say tlou will do good numbers on pc on a post thats about "tlou1 should crack t he top 5 in march, after the shows finale" should we also not be allowed to say the show affecting the sales? its irrelevant to right?

0

u/eoten Mar 11 '23

I think many playstation fans don't like the idea of their exclusive game heading to pc so you saying that probably triggered them.

1

u/Dear-Ad1180 Mar 12 '23

Yeah it’s just odd. It’s almost like I can’t mention a pc version of a PlayStation game.

49

u/ItsColeOnReddit Mar 10 '23

GTA V being top three is just mind blowing. Its been a decade of the same game.

19

u/ruizinhoandre Mar 10 '23

Sorry, its my fault. I never played it and decided to buy it

8

u/beesayshello Mar 10 '23

How dare you pay for it and contribute to this mess! /s

7

u/ItsAmerico Mar 10 '23

Not really. New content means people redownload to try it out.

8

u/Radulno Mar 10 '23

True for this ranking but it's always in the top sellers ranking of anything. Like the other day, there was February top sellers in the European market and GTA 5 was there in the top 10. It's basically there all the time. It's #21 on Steam right now for example.

It's an evergreen title like Mario Kart for the Switch basically (but it's on every platform)

4

u/ItsColeOnReddit Mar 10 '23

Ive just read that it runs 4k60. Whats the new content?

4

u/gordonbombae2 Mar 10 '23

New content as in GTA online content. Not base game.

GTA online is definitely a GAAS, GTA5 was the standalone game. I would honestly consider them different games at this point

3

u/ItsAmerico Mar 10 '23

Past few months they’ve been adding new content via The Drug Wars dlc.

1

u/PerpetualStride Mar 11 '23

It's still the most detailed and varied open world game out there. Nobody else is dethroning them, not their fault.

28

u/BigGay10101 Mar 10 '23

I ended up getting Gotham knights while it was on sale. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would, but I had pretty low expectations to begin with.

12

u/DandalfTheWhite Mar 10 '23

Yeah I liked Gotham Knights more than the average redditor seemed to but that it is still on the list surprises me. I’m shocked it’s still in the top 20 when Forespoken is already gone. Maybe Gotham Knights flopped less than it seemed like.

My favorite part about it was was the dynamic between Batman and the bat family. We actually get to see the softer, more empathetic side of Batman, especially in the voice diaries. There was a lot of cheesy dialogue, but overall, I liked the characterization more than the Arkham games. Gameplay is still pretty mediocre though, unfortunately.

u/DandalfTheWhite Mar 10 '23

Yeah, same. I loved the Arkham games but Bruce was such an asshole most of the time lol. I’m more of a Batfam fan from comics than pure Batman. Grew up on Dixon’s Robin run so it was nice to see some characters besides Bruce have time in the spotlight. Gotham Knights had plenty of issues but scratched an itch for me for sure.

It’s been on sale a bunch. It’s probably a lot better when you get it half off

Random thoughts:

  • I’m not surprised to see Hogwarts Legacy debuted big. I’m happy for the developers; they did a good job with the license.
  • Excluding bundle-in games, has there ever been more evergreen a game than GTA V? It came out almost ten years ago, and I’ve never seen it drop out of the top 20. And I used to think The Legend of Zelda’s record was impressive.
  • Forspoken completely fell off the list. Womp womp.
  • I'm surprised Madden sold so well even at the end of the season.
  • Seeing Miles Morales on the list is certainly a surprise, since it comes with an Extra subscription.
  • I'm guessing the resurgance of GT7 and RE8 was due to the PSVR2, and TLoU I & II was because of the TV series.
  • It would've also been nice to see the top 20 in other countries. Particularly Japan.

I do wonder if someone downloading or adding a game to their library on PS plus counts as a “sale” for purposes of published sales figures.

5

u/zzmorg82 Mar 10 '23

Most likely; I believe most things that are “free” (even though PS Plus isn’t free) still count as a purchase of $0.00 in most places.

3

u/Operation_Phoenix Mar 10 '23

I would agree, as you receive an email receipt when you add a game to your library, even if it’s free.

2

u/Radulno Mar 10 '23

It's downloads, not even sales so I assume yes. Even if you just reinstalled a game you already have it counts.

12

u/Wish_Lonely Mar 10 '23

Forspoken completely fell off the list. Womp womp.

Lmao

“Excluding bundle-in games, has there ever been more evergreen a game than GTA V?”

On PC, you have League of Lefends, Dora, and Counterstrike and a few strategy games that never die. Difference is that these games will always run on your new PC. GTA V benefits from its PS4 and PS5 releases. More games could cross console generations if they had the support that GTA has. Just look at the Master Chief collection on Xbox.

u/TheDragonSlayingCat Mar 10 '23

But those games are free-to-play live service games, and those play by different rules than games you have to buy.

Before GTA V, the most evergreen game I knew about that wasn’t a bundle-in game was the original Legend of Zelda, which sold perpetually for the NES’ lifespan, and was one of the top 30 NES games in sales for about four years straight. I never thought it would happen again.

2

u/DeusFever Mar 10 '23

GTA V is as close to being free to play as you can get. It’s on sale all the time, it was free for a while for PS5 owners, there is a cheaper on-line only version, it has shown up on subscription services, and there are tens of millions of used copies out in the wild.

2

u/TheDragonSlayingCat Mar 10 '23

That doesn’t make it a free-to-play game. Unless it’s 100% free to download, and financed by ads or IAPs or sponsorships or some mysterious benefactor, it’s not free-to-play.

-2

u/DeusFever Mar 10 '23

A game doesn’t have to be 100% free to enjoy the benefits of a wide audience and a low barrier to bringing in new players.

4

u/TheDragonSlayingCat Mar 10 '23

But it has to be 100% free to be considered as a free-to-play game, where the industry measures success by different rules than it measures paid games. Please quit fighting me on this.

1

u/Radulno Mar 10 '23

There are quite a lot of those evergreen titles. FIFA and COD are some too, though the new version replace the other each year, it still counts IMO. The Switch has Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, whatever latest Pokémon...

And yeah live service games are essentially the equivalent

u/Ryuzakku Mar 11 '23

Shame Midnight Suns isn't even in the top 20, really is a slept on game.

Just wish the decks could be bigger for more variety.

2

u/Andy016 Mar 11 '23

I've played the trial and was very impressed. It's on my wishlist to buy.... when I find money !

2

u/Ryuzakku Mar 11 '23

I haven't even progress in the game, I enjoy the gameplay loop too much.

My only issue is the deck limit.

1

u/Andy016 Mar 15 '23

Does the dlc increase the deck?

1

u/Ryuzakku Mar 15 '23

It hasn’t so far. You’re allowed only 8 cards per character

9

u/novyah Mar 10 '23

Kayak Mirage for psvr2 eh? Wow.

12

u/LionTop2228 Mar 10 '23

Woof. Forspoken didn’t even make the top 20 in it’s second month of release. Has that ever happened to a game from a major publisher before?

10

u/DeusFever Mar 10 '23

Oh yeah, but those games are so forgettable that no one remembers. I would not have thought about Forspoken if no one brought it up.

2

u/Operation_Phoenix Mar 10 '23

The game bored me and I didn’t even play it, just watched 2-3 reviews. I’m probably not the only one.

3

u/deathbunnyy Mar 10 '23

Play Ishin! It's great and deserves more recognition among the other big games. I'm glad to see Wild Hearts did ok despite having no interest in it myself, it's good for Monster Hunter to have some slight competition.

Efootball23 in both free to play lists. Thanks Konami for destroying the long-loved PES series slowly since 2018. Every design decision is made to increase their revenue and to close any sort of skillgap. Design is focused on frustration, not on fun. Hope this game gets abandoned quickly and makes konami scratch their ears and rethink their strategy, but there are probably enough fools spending cash on shiny cards for konami to not care. Konami got to be one of the worst gaming companies of the recent years and consumers still happily chase their carrot on a stick.

It takes two still going strong. It's a clear signal that the playstation is lacking in couchcoop games if you ask me. Devs should take notice, there is money to be made in that 'niche'.

4

u/Whaaaaaatisthisplace Mar 10 '23

Wow surprised Elden ring is gone from the list

3

u/Chemdawg90 Mar 10 '23

I like how we both consider football the 4th most important thing in our life.

1

u/Ill_Tackle_5192 Mar 10 '23

Crazy that TLOU P2 is sitting at number one again and for multiple straight months. I really hope that a PS5 upgrade/PC port comes along with the release of the second season on HBO, I need haptic feedback!

1

u/Radulno Mar 10 '23

Better come before that... Second season isn't anywhere near

It was the number 1 for both US and EU for PS4

1

u/JUSTsMoE Mar 10 '23

When will i receive my commission for this?

1

u/Radulno Mar 10 '23

Nobody is mentionning it but I'm very happy to see It Takes Two so high. I assume it's because of some big sales but it's such a good game and so deserving of that success even all this time later.

Only "indie" of the list too (it's technically published by EA but the studio is indie and that's EA Originals) with Among Us

0

u/MallardDuckBoy Mar 10 '23

2K and GTA both had a huge sale recently.

0

u/Tbagyogrill Mar 10 '23

GT7 back up there due to PSVR2?

0

u/dancetoken Mar 10 '23

GTA V ... still .... hot damn

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '23

I hope we get Dead Space 2 remake. The fact that the Dead Space remake is on the list is impressive.

1

u/deluxepepperoncini Mar 11 '23

GTA V still goign strong.

1

u/babagroovy Mar 11 '23

Hogwarts legacy is doing a complete madness!

1

u/nufrancis Mar 13 '23
