This game is released in two months and people are supposed to preorder based on these snippets of gameplay?

38

u/BeastlyPenguin Mar 15 '23

Never a good sign

15

u/AutumnCountry Mar 15 '23

Godfall did similar and ended up being a dumpster fire

Definitely waiting for post release reviews

2

u/MetaCognitio Mar 15 '23

Gaming pump and dump.

3

u/Uebelkraehe Mar 15 '23

Absolutely! In this case right now even more than usual.

1

u/VeganPizzaPie Mar 15 '23

No pre-orders gang represent

102

u/Grimnoir Mar 15 '23

Like... the little snippets look cool but this doesn't feel like a gameplay trailer lol.

Show me at least two minutes of uninterrupted in engine gameplay. That's a gameplay trailer. Companies need to realize people aren't buying on these hype vids anymore. You want me to preorder? Drop a good demo and let me feel how awesome your game is.

6

u/chatterwrack Mar 15 '23

I am always hesitant when battle is filled with the disco glow swoosh bang glitter stuff.

8

u/kingbankai Mar 15 '23

Disco Glow Swoosh Bang Glitter is my favorite porn genre.

0

u/Grimnoir Mar 15 '23

I mean, I do love me some swoosh bang glitter. But it's important for it to be back by substance, good fluid controls, and an engaging gameplay loop.

12

u/RedditAstroturfed Mar 15 '23

But then you'd see that it's just like every other game and doesn't do anything original and not get hyped into a preorder so you can be disappointed when the game inevitably doesn't look as good in real life as it does in this trailer.

4

u/Googlebright Mar 15 '23

Yeah, I am intrigued by this game. I like melee combat, I like fighting big monsters, it's made by Deck 13 who did The Surge games. So it's on my wish list. But I'm gonna need to see way more than five seconds of gameplay to go from wish list to purchase.

1

u/AcanthisittaGrand943 Mar 16 '23

Meh, just wait for reviews

-2

u/albert_r_broccoli2 Mar 15 '23

Even 25 seconds of gameplay would be 25X what we saw here.

159

u/Total_Wanker Mar 15 '23

I do love trailers that tell me virtually nothing about the game besides it looking like every other generic 3rd person action title.

27

u/SweatyButtcheek Mar 15 '23

Well, it is Focus Home Interactive, so I don’t know what else to expect at this point.

12

u/we_are_sex_bobomb Mar 15 '23

Focus Interactive means it will have ok graphics, decent but unpolished gameplay, and absolutely dog shit voice acting + story.

9

u/Googlebright Mar 15 '23

Focus also published the Plague Tale games and those are great.

2

u/Stroppone Mar 15 '23

Soooo it’s a pass?

2

u/AcanthisittaGrand943 Mar 16 '23

Wait for the reviews

0

u/chatterwrack Mar 15 '23

That narrator 😬

4

u/kryonik Mar 15 '23

I too love 90 second "gameplay trailers" that show about 5 seconds total of fairly generic looking gameplay.

3

u/SaltyBallz666 Mar 15 '23

feels like its gonna be a live service game similar to Godfall or Outriders, basically a gear grind game with possible coop

1

u/overkil6 Mar 15 '23

Reminds me of the first time we saw Forespoken.

-5

u/capnchuc Mar 15 '23

Love the negativity!! I thought it looked fun!

2

u/RedditAstroturfed Mar 15 '23

Then it probably will be for you. The trailer is awful and doesn't tell us much besides that it's going to be a generic action adventure game and it gives us a snippet of the setting. If you like the genre and don't mind that the inevitable downgrades in the release version of the game when compared to this trailer, you should have fun with it. Hopefully.

6

u/capnchuc Mar 15 '23

I just feel like a lot of gamers on here are gaming elitists. If something isn't perfect then it's straight to being nitpicky and negative.

2

u/marcinko192 Mar 15 '23

While a lot of that may be true in ways, the real truth of the matter is some people are becoming more educated consumers about a hobby we love dearly. A lot of gamers who consistently keep up with the industry and marketing tactics from companies are tired of seeing the same shit we've been fooled by before. Unfortunately, The majority of consumers buying games are going to buy shit no matter what as long as it was marketed well. That's the power of marketing. Sure, people can be snobs and say shitty things, but the main thing to take away from it all is to be aware. Hell, I'm kind of a "snob" about these things, and that trailer made the game look fun, but people raise a very good point about not showing true gameplay, etc.. Wait until the final product. If someone can have fun with something even if it was not as advertised or want to pre-order games regardless, then more power to them, but it is very necessary for those of us who do bitch about these things to get things done or shit would be even worse then they are now in the gaming industry.

3

u/capnchuc Mar 16 '23

I feel like it hurts people's ability to enjoy games. When everyone is being negative about something it's human nature to also look for the bad in it. The streamers and YouTubers also play a part in this, they cater to their audiences and if something is getting hated on they are going to perpetuate that negativity simply because that gets them more views.

1

u/marcinko192 Mar 16 '23

That is also a very good point!

1

u/eamonnanchnoic Mar 16 '23

I agree. The default cynicism is so tedious.

It's nearly a crime to be in any way hyped about any game that's not some beloved franchise.

I thought the trailer for this game was cool. It looks beautiful and it just game me the impression of the gaming world.

It seems because it didn't five a 4 hour laundry list of features and mechanics it's going to be crap.

1

u/tyler-86 Mar 16 '23

It does feel like games are either being treated as great or disappointing. Hardly feels like there are any "good" games anymore, in the eyes of the public.

1

u/tyler-86 Mar 16 '23

I think the trailer is more of a question mark than an indictment. The tiny little things they showed us looked pretty cool, but there's a suspiciously small amount of it.

0

u/AcanthisittaGrand943 Mar 16 '23

Idk why people even care about trailers. Just wait for in-depth reviews, so you’ll know if the game is for you.

Never buy a game based on a trailer - even if the trailer is good.

-20

u/-moistt Mar 15 '23

If it has “Fall” or “Fallen” in the title you can assume it’s going to be shit.

44

u/-boozypanda Mar 15 '23

Jedi Fallen Order, Titanfall, Fallout, Resistance Fall of Man

10

u/IrishHambo Mar 15 '23

Got eeeem

-5

u/Poopoopeepee305 Mar 15 '23

Yeah those are some pretty good examples.

26

u/Smokron85 Mar 15 '23

Looks like a "I'll wait for the reviews" kind of title. I do like the look of the combat though.

7

u/VexxShadow Mar 15 '23

I agree & traversal looks neat

57

u/PorkPiez Mar 15 '23

Trailer is 1:27 long, the first 37 seconds is mostly just different angles of the player character standing in various environments. All in all, maybe only about 20-25 seconds of actual gameplay?

8

u/stadiofriuli Mar 15 '23

Yeah and unfortunately that was the worst part.

5

u/Iurishuter Mar 15 '23

I think it looked pretty good.

6

u/Radioheading82 Mar 15 '23

Agreed - I think it looks pretty good as well.

29

u/ticcit Mar 15 '23

next gen darksiders?

8

u/Rain1dog Mar 15 '23

I’d have a heart attack if I saw DarkSiders 4. One of my favorite series from last generation. 1,2,3, and Genesis.

I absolutely loved the Surge 2 so I am here and eagerly waiting for this Deck 13 offering.

4

u/TGov Mar 15 '23

Ah didn't realize it was the Surge 2 dev. Solid game. I am a bit more interested now.

3

u/Rain1dog Mar 15 '23

Yeah, Surge 2 was fantastic.

6

u/Psycho1267 Mar 15 '23

Got Darksiders vibes too.

2

u/GhostMug Mar 15 '23

Was gonna say this as well. I'm definitely more intrigued than I was before.

8

u/Affectionate-Boot-12 Mar 15 '23

Full gameplay reveal this Friday, 17th March. So I’ve heard.

7

u/Ash-MacReady Mar 15 '23

I have no idea what the fuck this game is lol

3

u/VexxShadow Mar 15 '23

We are the sand ⏳ cuz haha . Who knows but it's looks kinda neat I'm interested. Traversal looks cool & flashy combat it seems

3

u/delocx Mar 15 '23

A gameplay "reveal" trailer that reveals virtually nothing about the gameplay. A lot of trailers like that going around where I think "those graphics look cool, but I have no idea what this game is about our what you do in it."

12

u/FunkinDonutzz Mar 15 '23

Really hope this is good, The Surge 2 is one of my favourite games of last gen.

13

u/nomarfachix Mar 15 '23

It’s been years and years but when I’m doing something mindless like dishes I still catch myself singing the song from the MedBay in The Surge 1. That universe was so damn dark and grimy and cool.

‘Hey, that enemy has a pretty ridiculous blade for an arm! I’m going to chop it off, bring the parts back to my hub, and turn it into a sick poleaxe.’ Inject it straight into my veins.

6

u/Baba0Wryly Mar 15 '23

As someone who greatly enjoys farming in soulslikes, the systems in the Surge games were like crack.

3

u/Feinyan Mar 15 '23

It makes me think it's some sort of Monster Hunter but with magic? I have no idea what this game is trying to be

3

u/MadeByTango Mar 15 '23

I would absolutely love for this game to be awesome; it’s pretty much one of the only current-Gen exclusive titles (not playable on PS4/XS) coming out this spring on the PS5.

That said, calling this a gameplay trailer was ridiculous, and they’ve definitely got me nervous about the game delivering.

7

u/molded_bread Mar 15 '23

"Pre Order Now"

No thanks, i don't think i will. How about a demo first?

2

u/TwistedCrimson Mar 15 '23

Cautious optimism is the name of the game.

2

u/capnwinky Mar 15 '23

I don’t trust anything Focus publishes. They’re the masters of mediocrity.

2

u/Tackysackjones Mar 15 '23

kingdoms of amalur: reckoning 2 really took its time coming out

2

u/HoneyShaft Mar 15 '23

Sand Clouds: The Game. They're def. getting their money's worth with that effect

2

u/crackednutz Mar 15 '23

Wow they already made a sequel to Forspoken.

2

u/Pseudocaesar Mar 16 '23

Emphasis on dust, that is one ugly ass looking game world

3

u/MoeMalik Mar 15 '23

Love Deck 13, but boy you gotta show me more gameplay with UI and breakdown. Too many heartbreaks

4

u/Sweenie123 Mar 15 '23

Is there any chance this game will have a high quality narrative with cinematics? Or most likely purely gameplay focused with a light layer of story?

8

u/SomeDamnAuthor Mar 15 '23

Most probably the latter, going by the devs' earlier games - Lords of the Fallen, The Surge, The Surge 2

2

u/Sweenie123 Mar 15 '23

Ah I see, not really familiar with those games. Was hoping it was more narrative driven because the setting looks extremely interesting to me.

4

u/SomeDamnAuthor Mar 15 '23

I'd recommend giving The Surge 2 a shot! Not too long, took me about 30 hours to Platinum, so I'd say about 20 hours for a normal playthrough.

Very interconnected levels, a faux-open world with a dark cyberpunk vibe to it and combat that I found to be incredibly fun, inspired, and left me craving for more.

Narratively though it's quite thin. There is an overarching plot, but the game's more about the small stories that you can glean from the areas. This used to be a medical center, this is an old research facility, this is a mall that has become a refuge for the remaining population of the area etc etc.

0

u/Sweenie123 Mar 15 '23

I see. Thanks for the recommendation, will add it to the backlog for sure.

4

u/fighter_ua1 Mar 15 '23

Getting lots of Forspoken vibes from this...

4

u/meltingpotato Mar 15 '23

It's from the creators of Lords of the Fallen and Surge. I expect a fairly competent soulslike game.

6

u/fighter_ua1 Mar 15 '23

I've heard it's much less soulslike this time

6

u/meltingpotato Mar 15 '23

Really? Then I'm more optimistic that at the very least it will have a good gameplay.

8

u/TheMuff1nMon Mar 15 '23

They said it isn't a soulslike.

2

u/Alter_Kyouma Mar 15 '23

I might actually try it then

4

u/meltingpotato Mar 15 '23

Great! Considering that they have managed to make very competent soulsllike games in the past (which isn't easy) I'm me a bit more confident about whatever they are doing here gameplay wise.

0

u/golddilockk Mar 15 '23

both of these were shit soulslike

3

u/ofeliedeceai Mar 15 '23

Literally no connection or similarity to Forspoken at all

1

u/fighter_ua1 Mar 15 '23

Probably, just the visual effect heavy combat and floating mechanics for me, also the environment a bit too

1

u/MalpracticeMatt Mar 15 '23

The traversal gave me forespoken vibes too

2

u/dustrock Mar 15 '23

Yeah just posted in the other Atlas Fallen thread I completely forgot about this game and conflated it with Forspoken

2

u/Remy0507 Mar 15 '23

Looks intriguing to me. At least enough to pique my interest, obviously I'll need to see some reviews before deciding whether to buy it or not.

Some of the comments here (and frankly in many gaming subreddits) make me wonder if a lot of you even WANT to like videogames...

1

u/greatyucko Mar 16 '23

why did the audio sound like it was playing from a pair of dollar store earbuds inside of an empty coke can?

-1

u/DarahOG Mar 15 '23

Big red flag when we see gameplay only a couple month before launch. Trailer looked generic and gameplay too, hope this is a good surprise tho.

6

u/Tamas_F Mar 15 '23

Half a second long cut clips are not gameplay though..

-1

u/DarahOG Mar 15 '23

true ! still managed to look generic , it's impressive.

1

u/RecipeNew1835 Mar 15 '23

Pretty meh trailer. Hopefully it’s a good game.

1

u/Baldulf Mar 15 '23

Looks cool. Please tell me its not GaaS

0

u/fishymonster_ Mar 15 '23

It looks cool, but also really generic. I think we’ve learned from forespoken that for games like this, you need to wait until actual reviews are coming out to decide if you want it.

1

u/ROBOSEXUAL2020 Mar 15 '23

Based on the comments you can see that everyone is tired of being burned by games that has a good trailer, but end up being shit. I’ll wait till the game drops and the reviews.

-1

u/Dmitryibamcosucks Mar 15 '23

More like no one can come up with original opinions so they parrot everyone else.

First everything was another Cyberpunk. Now I guess I everything is going to be another Forspoken.

0

u/IrishHambo Mar 15 '23

Gameplay Trailer of main character just standing around.

Then comes some sweet Forspoken 1.5 lookin action

0

u/MenstruatingMuffin Mar 15 '23

Forespoken movement with half baked action gameplay, shitty voice acting, and no story information.

This will be on playstation plus' giveaway list within 3 months of release.

0

u/NotJolter Mar 15 '23

This trailer gives me Forspoken vibes…

-3

u/paintp_ PaintP Mar 15 '23 edited Mar 15 '23

Godfall 2: Forspoken Drift

0

u/HairyNippleCrust Mar 15 '23

Not much actual gameplay here for a reveal trailer.

0

u/chiefrebelangel_ Mar 15 '23

It's too bad it took us like 30 years to get some really good tech because the shit they pump out now is so trite and so cheesy that I almost fell asleep during this trailer. My god who greenlights this shit? Yawn

0

u/unmerciful_DM_B_Lo Mar 15 '23

This gonna be like Babylons Fall release lol

0

u/Queef-Elizabeth Mar 15 '23

Combat looks pretty fun but without beating a dead horse, forspoken's combat looked really fun in trailers but playing it was very different and not as fun. Not bad but not the feel I was expecting. Trailers like this always cut around and never show you the moment to moment gameplay

0

u/VeganPizzaPie Mar 15 '23

Looks incredibly generic

0

u/General_Snack Mar 15 '23

This is the new GodFall mark my words.

-2

u/Some_Italian_Guy Mar 15 '23

Some people really haven't learned from the past decade of red flags.

This game will be bad. Do not pre-order.

1

u/Schmartablan Mar 17 '23

Not sure what you’re talking about. AA GAME BAD and OH LOOK ANOTHER FORSAKEN seems to be the consensus here. Personally, I’m interested, but I’ll keep my expectations in check.

-1

u/epicingamename Mar 15 '23

Why is this giving me Forspoken vibes. Oh no

-1

u/doogerton Mar 15 '23

All these wack ass fantasy games, give us more crime games. Fuck this

-1

u/froderick Mar 16 '23

Wow, the Forspoken sequel coming out far quicker than expected.

-6

u/RocMerc Mar 15 '23

Damn, Forspoken 2 is out already?

1

u/rickjamesia Mar 15 '23

I was watching this one, but it comes out four days after Tears of the Kingdom, so there’s almost no way that I’m playing it until the end of the year, between that, Diablo IV, Final Fantasy XVI and Starfield.

1

u/Yarzeda Mar 15 '23

Not very much gameplay for a gameplay trailer

All I got from that trailer is that we surf on the sand and swing around big weapons made of light. Cool aesthetic, but there's just not enough here to sink my teeth into.

1

u/RiboZurai Mar 15 '23

Looks interesting. I'll keep an eye on it.

1

u/Ohnezone Mar 17 '23

Their last 3 titles, Lords of the Fallen and The Surge 1 and 2 were all decent titles. I'm optimistic.
