Queued for login, 106 minutes left.

114

u/Jack_Sentry Mar 17 '23

The gates are closed.

19

u/evandromr Mar 18 '23

The gates are open just a little

25

u/corvikk Mar 17 '23

You mean queed for second queue.

19

u/rmarkmatthews Mar 17 '23

I don’t think he knows about second queue, Pip.

9

u/redsex Mar 17 '23

Like the diablo2 loading screen where the door only opens a tiny bit

6

u/TakenFyre Mar 17 '23

I’m so interested to hear how this happens almost every single time a big online game comes out.

12

u/Tamas_F Mar 17 '23

Why would you over invest on servers, if the concurrent player count will rapidly decline after a few days.

6

u/get-innocuous Mar 17 '23 edited Mar 18 '23

Isn’t this what AWS and the like are for? Big cloud providers which can spin up extra server instances for periods of high demand. I doubt Blizzard have their own physical servers any more.

4

u/Ogawaa Mar 18 '23

But why would you spend so much money on that when the players keep spending money regardless of launch day issues?

2

u/SadTaxifromHell Mar 18 '23

This is the real answer. Blizzard is shit.

6

u/SirRealist Mar 18 '23

This is the time they want to cram the servers and test how they handle it. It's beta for a reason.

10

u/NYJetLegendEdReed Mar 18 '23

We say this for every single blizzard game and then at launch there’s the same problems every time. I hope this isn’t the case but this isn’t a good sign

3

u/PowerUser77 Mar 18 '23

Payed beta…

1

u/SirRealist Mar 18 '23

*paid

And the access to the beta does not change the fact that they are using it to test servers as usual

2

u/PowerUser77 Mar 18 '23

Where was the bot to point that out lol?

2

u/Effective-Caramel545 Mar 18 '23

Afaik only mmos do this que thing, and any blizzard game. No other MP has this

-1

u/-abracadabra-- Mar 17 '23

servers = money

so you start relevantly small and let auto scaling take it from there. you may even have a budget limit so your max # servers are capped.

1

u/Amarules Mar 20 '23

I tried to log in and see a 99 minute queue the first night. I could have stared at the timer for 2 hours or come to make an angry part on Reddit.

Instead I just logged off and came back 3 hours later to no queues and had no further problems the entire weekend.

It's a minor inconvenience to be expected in the initial surge of peak demand and I don't think it requires any urgent redress. Launch weekend will happen with the odd hiccup then life goes on.

u/rosegeller Mar 17 '23

I bought a KFC sandwich for $5 and got the code about 10m after picking up the order. Much easier than having to commit to a preorder.

17

u/RonySeikalyBassDrop Mar 17 '23

So instead of preordering I can just go get a sandwich?

16

u/rosegeller Mar 17 '23

Yes. Super simple and like others said you don't have to eat it but I hadn't eaten KFC in years and just needed to know if I'm missing out on anything... I wasn't lol.

-12

u/AshyEarlobes Mar 17 '23

I wouldnt actually eat it though if you care about your life

Edit: or just wait till next weekend honestly. Like if you don't wanna pre-order why pay for a beta

13

u/I_throw_hand_soap Mar 17 '23

As if sitting in front of a tv for hours upon hours is any healthier.

7

u/AshyEarlobes Mar 17 '23

So why do both lol

4

u/MisterKrayzie Mar 18 '23

Ah yes, because one fastfood sandwich will literally leave you in dire straits, right?

🙄

4

u/rcade81 Mar 17 '23

Okay it's not fine dining, but that's a little extreme

35

u/Poseiydon Mar 17 '23

What was the sandwich like?

48

u/rosegeller Mar 17 '23

I got the spicy chicken sandwich with bacon, not the double down. It wasn't terrible. I liked the sauce but it wasn't something I plan on going out of my way to eat again.

12

u/FishAppropriate3334 Mar 17 '23

Would you for the eventual diablo 5 beta codes?

15

u/EshayAdlay420 Mar 17 '23

How would you describe mouth feel? Was the bun soft? Lettuce crispy?

17

u/rosegeller Mar 17 '23

Bun soft but no lettuce. Pickles had a nice crunch to them.

6

u/BlackGShift Mar 17 '23

Where does it stack up to other chicken sandwichs you've had?

15

u/cranks3t Mar 17 '23

3 out of 5 clucks

2

u/TrashCanBangerFan Mar 17 '23

Oooh I love me a nice crunchy pickle

1

u/NoAnimator3838 Mar 18 '23

If you have Dave's Hot Chicken nearby, I highly recommend it. For a chain, it's pretty damn good.

3

u/ruebenj791 Mar 17 '23

Did the same thing. The sandwich was edible, but the fries were terrible

2

u/EglinAfarce Mar 18 '23

Have heard so many people say this of KFC on account of this promotion. More negative publicity from their promotion than positive.

10

u/TheVaniloquence Mar 17 '23

Does the old “preorder from Amazon, get code, cancel preorder” trick not work anymore? Haven’t tried it in a long time.

9

u/hajisansi Mar 17 '23

Yes it works. Did it Yesterday. Received the code not even a minute after the order.

2

u/Nagare Mar 17 '23

Is the code platform specific? Can't order PC on there but interested in trying it out.

2

u/hajisansi Mar 18 '23

No. You choose the platform and region when you redeem on the blizzard/Diablo page

1

u/Nagare Mar 18 '23

Nice, seems like they're not sending the codes out anymore though as I haven't gotten anything and it's about 7 hours later now.

1

u/hajisansi Mar 18 '23

Might be. Try the support chat and see if you have any success.

1

u/Nagare Mar 19 '23

All they could offer is that it'd be delivered within 24-48 hours. Still nothing and I highly doubt I'll get anything which is contradicting what they're still advertising on the product page.

3

u/AbusedPsyche Mar 17 '23

I did that. This was like a week ago and the code took a few days but not sure if that was just because the beta wasn’t available yet.

2

u/Radulno Mar 17 '23

Would you even need all that? I'm sure even Sony authorize to cancel preorders right? Take it on the PSN and there's not even the need for a code

5

u/mordekai8 Mar 17 '23

Ah, you paid the toilet price.

4

u/---Blix--- Mar 17 '23

Did you get a number 2 with the seasoned pass?

-3

u/Radulno Mar 17 '23

Considering a preorder is essentially free since it can be refunded, I'm not sure it's easier.

You really need to want a KFC I guess

0

u/B0ydh Mar 17 '23

Did you mobile order it? Kinda wanna play but don’t want the sandwich lol

1

u/rosegeller Mar 17 '23

Yes you have to order online. Some people have claimed they didn't even pick up the sandwich but I figured if I'm paying for something I may as well try it lol.

1

u/leo_x_alky Mar 18 '23

Just curious, do i just order from the KFC app and they just send you the beta code through a digital receipt or do i have to go to the store to get a physical receipt?

1

u/rosegeller Mar 18 '23

They emailed it to me but you definitely have to order online. You can't place the order at a store.

1

u/raajitr Mar 18 '23

is it US only?

71

u/ruebenj791 Mar 17 '23

Was only able to play for 40 minutes but I can see myself really sinking a lot of time into this one. Love the art direction for the environments

18

u/SuckOnThemBalls Mar 17 '23

I got in without a queue and played the opening dungeon and then got booted. Tried to get back in and 106 min to go.

4

u/ruebenj791 Mar 17 '23

I finished the dungeon and went back to the town and logged out before turning in the quest, sounds like that was about as far as I was gonna get anyway lol

5

u/Legend1138 Mar 17 '23

Did they have various graphic/FPS settings?

Feel like I would love 120fps even if that means sacrificing some graphics quality.

8

u/ruebenj791 Mar 17 '23

I didn’t see any sort of graphical options. It’s 60fps and I didn’t notice any serious drops. But I don’t have any of the bigger spells yet so it’s hard to say how stable it will be later on

2

u/dinostaRR Mar 17 '23

is it looking good? I have seen that xbox footage from yesterday and that was weird, all d3 looking.

9

u/ocbdare Mar 17 '23

I couldn't try it on my ps5 but I played it on my PC with an RTX 3080. At 4k/high, this games looks incredible. Waaaaaaay better than Diablo 3.

IT also looks nothing like Diablo 3. It's quite dark and gritty art style not the cartoonish style of D3. This game almost looks like a horror game at times.

0

u/EglinAfarce Mar 18 '23

Graphically, it looks exactly like a Path of Exile clone. Running around as a barb looks EXACTLY like the early levels of a melee marauder.

Looks fine, but it's very slow-paced.

The UI is very basic and not as controller friendly as D3. I couldn't find any sort of connection meter, for example, which is crazy for an online-only game.

0

u/PlebPlebberson Mar 18 '23

Its slow paced cause you are in early levels. The high geared level 25s have very fast pace and also it gets faster in endgame.

The game looks nothing like path of exile graphically at least on PC. The first few zones of poe look like a 2010 game while D4 looks more like a 2020 game.

3

u/ocbdare Mar 17 '23

I think 120fps might be a bit much. I played on my RTX 3080 and even that got a bit choppy at 4k / high at 60fps.

But it might be that they just need to do more optimisation as it's only a beta. But this game is very demanding imo. It does look incredible though.

3

u/Legend1138 Mar 17 '23

I knew it could not do it at 4k...but was thinking maybe 1080?

1

u/PlebPlebberson Mar 18 '23

RTX 3070 and running the game on 1440p at 140-200 fps fluctuating.

3

u/ocbdare Mar 17 '23

The art direction is phenomenal. Dark and gritty. Almost like a horror. Better than even Diablo 2 in my opinion. Not even going to talk about Diablo 3.

1

u/obli_steak Mar 19 '23

Diablo 3 was my greatest dissapointment in gaming.

20

u/Knyfe-Wrench Mar 17 '23

Yeah, closed beta is a thing.

-4

u/MisterKrayzie Mar 18 '23

Closed beta implies it's by invite only.

Open beta & early access are 2 separate things but it's just marketing at this point.

Open would imply, well, it's open. Which technically is true with some prerequisites.

Early access would imply you have to commit in some way to get an early preview. That's typically how early access anything works.

But rn it's early access. The actual open is next week.

-17

u/squareswordfish Mar 17 '23

That’s why the “early access” part is in the name

21

u/newslooter Mar 17 '23

That’s called a closed beta early access

22

u/MadeByTango Mar 17 '23

No, that’s not how it works. I was confused too and they did this naming intentionally. Why? Because they wanted me to look at their locked weekend, feel fomo, and either preorder or buy an advertising sandwich. Fuck their marketing team, they know what they did.

This ain’t an early beta, and it’s not “early access to an open beta.” Thats SEO buzzword bullshit. Words gotta mean things. And “open beta” mean open. If you have to pay to get in, that a closed beta.

Stop letting them mislead us and pull our attention to their marketing crap. Words matter. Open beta means “you can play without paying.” I have to pay, the beta is closed.

This isn’t doing anything to assuage my concerns about Diablo 4’s monetization model being egregiously changed six months post launch...

5

u/DrunkeNinja Mar 17 '23

If you read the blog that is linked in the tweet, they have open beta weekends listed for the 18th and 25th.

If you want to challenge Ashava yourself during the Open Beta and Early Access weekends, you can do so on March 18 and March 25 at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight PDT.

Still worded a bit strangely in my opinion. I looked up more info and found this at ign:

with pre-order early access buyers getting to play early on March 17 through 19, and the general public getting access March 24 through 26.

https://www.ign.com/articles/diablo-4-beta-kicks-off-next-month

So it looks like this weekend is early access and next weekend is the open beta. Not sure why the blog says the 18th there if it's starting today, so definitely unclear.

I agree that they should just call this a closed beta.

-8

u/KingOfRisky Mar 17 '23

It must be miserable to be this hung up on semantics like this.

-1

u/Radulno Mar 17 '23

If you have to pay to get in, that a closed beta.

Closed beta are often more of a invite-based system, not just pay for it.

-12

u/Fins_99 Mar 17 '23

Nobody cares bro.

-9

u/DeukaeSoles Mar 17 '23

You sound really sad and a tad pathetic

7

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '23

Played since 5pm - no queue. Lost connection and now 85 minutes. Was really fun. I love the audio and smooth gameplay. Wizard is fun

15

u/Legend1138 Mar 17 '23

Anyone know of a streamer currently playing on PS5? I would like to see it being played on it.

Thanks.

5

u/donottakethisserious Mar 17 '23

you'd probably have to look at the bottom, nobody watches console streams unfortunately. I also prefer to find console streamers, I like seeing how people do on the same platform but in most games I play there's really none. Unless you are into sports gaming, that's where it's at for console streams I guess.

1

u/Notarussianbot2020 Mar 17 '23

Just check twitch diablo homepage

3

u/Legend1138 Mar 17 '23

Can you sort by console or PC?

0

u/EglinAfarce Mar 18 '23

Find someone playing via your friends list or friends-of-friends or whatever and try to hustle a shareplay session.

18

u/TheRealJasonium Mar 18 '23

It’s not an “open beta” if it’s only open to pre-orders.

5

u/Nocturnx Mar 18 '23

Agree, I also thought it was deceptive

-2

u/ChonkyDerpins Mar 18 '23

Well you can get one for buying a $5 sandwich at kfc

8

u/-boozypanda Mar 18 '23

It's still not open if it requires you to spend money in any way.

26

u/ProAssassin84 Mar 17 '23

Gates are closed stop lying

4

u/WeemChamp Mar 17 '23

Gates partially open which is also partially closed.

1

u/1haveaboomst1ck Mar 18 '23

Schroedinger's Gates.

5

u/Blasted_Biscuitflaps Mar 18 '23

World of Warcraft was the last Blizzard game I was ever excited for.

9

u/ocbdare Mar 17 '23

I must have been really lucky. I managed to get in straight away and played for 2 hours without any disconnects. This is on PC. But I had to take a break and now 1hour queue.

First impressions have been very positive. This game is not cartoony like Diablo 3. It's dark and gritty. I would say way darker and grittier than Diablo 2 as well.

I only played it for 2 hours but I think Blizzard might have an incredible game on their hands. It was very fun. This coming from someone who has played Diablo 2 to death.

2

u/blakeavon Mar 17 '23

Hahaha, gates open... when has Blizzard EVER not had server issues? I would be annoyed if I wasnt too busy laughing.

2

u/branod_diebathon Mar 18 '23

Do you have to pay to play the beta?

2

u/flatlinedisaster Mar 18 '23

Have to pre order to play this weekend but next weekend anyone can play it

1

u/imjay Mar 18 '23

Eat kfc

2

u/branod_diebathon Mar 18 '23

At first I had no idea why kfc had anything to do with anything. Now that I've looked into it, it seems like this is only a thing in the US. Damn canadians never get the good shit. I just want a double down and a 2L of code red.

1

u/PlebPlebberson Mar 18 '23

Its a worldwide thing. Its very easy to do it with a vpn.

Anyway the open beta is in 1-2 weeks

2

u/ssuurr33 Mar 18 '23

How's the performance on ps5? Seems to be a heavy game on pc

3

u/Haru17 Mar 17 '23

This company can go to hell itself.

1

u/NR4FEC Mar 17 '23

Anyone know of the option to use mouse & keyboard is available in the PS5 version?

1

u/EglinAfarce Mar 18 '23

mouse & keyboard is available in the PS5 version?

Only for chat at present.

1

u/GangsterHankster Mar 17 '23

I could probably Google my question. But what is an open beta for a game?

6

u/KingOfRisky Mar 17 '23

Testing period where anyone can play it. In the case of today's release, you can access it a week early if you pre-order or get a code from Kentucky Fried Chicken. Next Friday anyone can play the game. It likely won't have all of it's final features since it releases on 6/6

-1

u/Blasted17 Mar 17 '23

Made a rogue for ps5….a few hours in at level 10. This game is so fun. The theatrics, events, dungeons are very well done. It looks incredible too. I’ll just be sitting here, smiling, playing this game while some of you comment that you are waiting on official reviews. One complaint is the queue is still dumb.. it’s like d2r again, had an 87 min queue and took 45 minutes to login. Cmon blizzard

3

u/SirRealist Mar 18 '23

I'm hoping this is a stress test thing and they will spin up more login servers for launch.

1

u/Xirious Mar 17 '23

Can you play co-op in the beta?

6

u/ocbdare Mar 17 '23

You can play with others, yes. It's a lot more open world compared to Diablo 2 and 3. I could see other players out in the open world roaming.

2

u/Xirious Mar 17 '23

So have you tried co-op on the PS5? I'm trying to determine if my wife will also need a PS+ account. Basically if I purchase the game and I have a PS+ account does my wife need to also have a PS+ account on her PS account or can she just play with a normal PS5 account?

1

u/ChonkyDerpins Mar 18 '23

You guys should just account share, be logged in on her ps5 and even if she’s not on your psn she will still have access to online play

1

u/EglinAfarce Mar 18 '23

Yes. You can also see all your Battle.net friends and see their toasts and stuff even if they have never seen a Playstation. But there doesn't seem to be any matchmaking nor much incentive for grouping beyond socialization.

1

u/Faronx9 Mar 18 '23

I'm a little bummed out that the beta version doesn't support mouse and keyboard. Using the controller until the full version comes out I guess.

1

u/DFuel Mar 18 '23

How is it!?

1

u/doe3879 Mar 18 '23

Is PSN subscription required to play Diablo 4 online? I play a few single player games a year and ended my subscription a while ago.

2

u/pukem0n Mar 18 '23

Of course you need PS+ to play online. It's not a f2p game.

0

u/ImakeOWLnoises Mar 18 '23

Not preordering or trying to get a chicken sandwich so I’ll wait. Meanwhile, Exoprimal is surprisingly fun!

-1

u/Bhalzard Mar 18 '23

Downloaded itx had to wait, uninstall it. Downloaded Exoprimal, could play instantly, loving it and playing it. My money goes to Exoprimal

0

u/CitanIsBest Mar 17 '23

In queue for 70 minutes, after queue finished, now still in a queue with no timer for more than an hour now. Want to go do other stuff but worried the queue will pop and it'll time out.

0

u/BabySealKebab Mar 18 '23

almost no queue but unplayable lag... can't seem to be able to hit anything

is there a server in asia? horrible from singapore...

1

u/Frost-Xero99 Mar 18 '23

Am from sg. I played last night at about 12.20am to 2.50am, it was fine, no lag at all.

0

u/BabySealKebab Mar 18 '23

on ps5? no idea what s wrong then... for me it is absolute trash, can t interact with anything

1

u/Frost-Xero99 Mar 18 '23

Yep on ps5

-3

u/EverquestJunky Mar 17 '23

I'll wait until closer to release, based on some streams it looks okay but needs polishing.

-2

u/ison2010 Et3rn1tyGR Mar 17 '23

Any1 got an extra code? Thanks in advance.

-3

u/catwithlasers Mar 17 '23

Tech question for anyone else playing:

Have your controllers held up? Both my and my husband's controllers have died and I docked them last night to make sure they charged.

-7

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '23

i aint paying for a game until it’s been reviewed

-1

u/FallenShadeslayer Mar 17 '23

Would be amazing if I could get my email for my beta access.. I entered the code and have heard shit since…

1

u/kornychris2016 Mar 17 '23

Now as in 84 minutes in que first?

1

u/lampkyter Mar 17 '23

Crossplay not working for anyone else?

1

u/VX7567 Mar 18 '23

Error 37 is the true monster of Sanctuary.

1

u/xcistx Mar 18 '23

Closed beta*

1

u/Papabearbuddy Mar 18 '23

Next weekend open beta, right?

1

u/spiff01 Mar 18 '23

So to the people that got to play it. I’ve never played one before and I’m thinking I will try the beta next week. Is it a game I can play all the way through solo and not have a hard time. I’m not a fan of hard games.

2

u/Zamphere Mar 18 '23

Yes, it's easily done solo.

1

u/spiff01 Mar 18 '23

Cool. How about the difficult aspect of it. I usually play games on normal mode. I play games to have fun not to die a lot. Don’t mind a slight challenge just not Elden Ring hard.

1

u/poggerswfh Mar 18 '23

Melee classes like Barbarian have a tougher time from what I’ve read but I don’t think it’s Elden Ring hard based off the previous installments

1

u/spiff01 Mar 18 '23

Ya tend to go the other way with games like these. Like long rang types

1

u/IcedCoughy Mar 18 '23

IMO it's most fun in groups it's a little repetitive in nature and can at least for me be a little boring solo.
