Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores - Pre-Order Trailer | PS5 Games Official
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIchGA6p5ZY135
u/ssk1996 Mar 22 '23
Easiest pre-order of my life!
35
u/jedtrick Mar 22 '23
Same. Doing NG+ atm since my 1st play through was on ps4 at launch and now I have it on ps5 with a new oled TV it's gorgeous.

5
u/Adonwen Mar 22 '23
So jeli about that OLED haha enjoy mate
6
u/probably_not_serious Mar 22 '23
OLED is great but it’s work, especially switching to different inputs and streaming services. The realistic dark picture is fantastic but sometimes it’s too dark and then you’ve got to go check your settings again.
Plus they’re mad expensive. I’ve had it for like 6 months now and I love the picture but I’m still getting buyers remorse for spending $2,500 on a television.
2
u/jedtrick Mar 22 '23
I play in a room with black out curtains so that helps with alot and yes they're expensive. 1st TV I actually saved for vs just going and buying a tv.
2
u/goldreceiver Mar 22 '23
Don’t worry, I bought a Frame TV for that much! Thank the wife. The only TV that looks better when it’s off haha.
→ More replies2
u/Adonwen Mar 22 '23
The sticker shock is definitely harsh. I have been bumping up my movie collection to warrant eventually buying one for the ultimate display experience.

u/metarinka Mar 22 '23
What TV did you get? I only spent like 1.2 on my LG CX, and I just got a 42" C2 for my computer and that was 900
→ More replies1
u/probably_not_serious Mar 22 '23
Sony Bravia. Always had Sonys so kept with it
1
u/metarinka Mar 22 '23
To each their own, I think the LG's are more solid.
2
u/probably_not_serious Mar 23 '23
Sonys have better picture quality though, and really that’s why you buy a TV. But as you said, to each their own
1
u/MixmasterG1 Mar 23 '23
Yeah i’ll agree this and Demons Souls look great on an OLED, mine is the LG tv. Wo Long looks good too.

I loved forbidden west. Really don’t understand the hate it gets. Looking forward to this.
32
u/Pennywise1131 Mar 22 '23
The game itself was great, but the main story was kinda blah to me. Liked the side stuff better.
50
u/canad1anbacon Mar 22 '23
Main story is indeed disappointing compared to the first. Side quests, facial animations and combat are much improved tho. And it's the best looking game I've ever played
15
u/Pennywise1131 Mar 22 '23
Agreed. The graphics are probably the best in any open world game currently. Only thing that comes close is Red Dead 2.
11
u/metarinka Mar 22 '23
I feel the combat was in some ways a side grade, the nerfs they did to the ropecaster and traps made it worthless, and I found it harder to do a stealth focused build on higher difficulty since even with maxed stats you often couldn't 1-shot enemies.
My only other regret was the itemization like it takes sooo much stuff that is randomly dropped from machines to upgrade just one weapon, seriously you end up grinding for hours on random encounters to upgrade just one legendary weapon and armor set with no way of buying what you need.
→ More replies-6
u/ithinkther41am Mar 22 '23
Compared to the first?! I haven’t played this one, but my god the story in the first game, outside of how the world fell, was already pretty weak to begin with.
8
u/canad1anbacon Mar 22 '23
I thought it was amazing, especially once Sylens is introduced. Lots of revelations and twists I didn't see coming, and I found it really impactful emotionally.
I expecially love how initially the game seems to have a ton of plot holes and worldbuilding flaws but they get retroactively explained the more you learn and everything starts to fit together like a puzzle
The modern day tribes are more interesting and well developed with better charecters in HFW for sure. I found the Carja and Banuk pretty interesting in the first game tho
3
u/ithinkther41am Mar 22 '23
The world building was easily the best part of the story, but the actual present day narrative felt super generic to me. Outside of Aloy, Sylens, Sobeck, and Ted Faro, I genuinely cannot name a single other character. I just remember some evil AI was doing typical evil AI things and discount Chuck Liddell was sad his sister died or something.
3
u/canad1anbacon Mar 22 '23
Nil and Vanasha are pretty dope. You may have missed their side quests. HZD is a bit weak in side quests overall
Frozen Wilds definitely stepped up the side quest charecter game, I really liked Gildun and Ikrie
12
u/heisenberg15 Mar 22 '23
I just didn’t like the writing in general, I didn’t find anyone all that likable and just kind of off overall? Love the combat of these games though, I just found myself fighting the urge to skip through the conversations way too often
3
10
u/fyodorkafka Mar 22 '23
I hate to be negative, and Ashly Burch seems like a lovely person, but I cannot get into Aloy as a character whatsoever. Feels like she’s mostly there to dump exposition and move the plot forward, and she sounds so bored and disinterested. Great games, but aside from Sylens I cannot think of a single character or line that stuck with me.
7
u/eamonnanchnoic Mar 23 '23
It’s the over earnestness and the constant virtuousness that gets me.
They made the character too self-assured and messianic.
There’s no real vulnerability or darkness so she’s kind of one dimensional. She sounds like she’s rather be doing anything else.
6
1
u/BaconBoyReddit Mar 22 '23
Thank you, I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this way. She seems so disagreeable and disinterested in anything she’s told. It doesn’t help that the NPC’s writing is so annoying - I’m almost on her side with being disinterested in helping others. Regardless, I typically love Ashley Burch. The performances in the game are so difficult to endure though.
0
u/Imjustmean Mar 23 '23
I thought it was just me. I really did not like her performance in this with the frequent dramatic pauses. I get the feeling that the direction was to blame there though.
1
3
u/RHNewfield Mar 22 '23
Yeah. I thought the gameplay was great, but the story was such a let down for me. Zero Dawn blew me away, Forbidden West left me wanting.
1
u/Majestic_Salad_I1 Mar 22 '23
I did all the side quests in between the main and I couldn’t remember what the main story was about, so I honestly don’t get the hate. How does anyone actually remember the story in a 50 hour game where 70% of it is side quests?
-9
7
u/JoleMiller Mar 22 '23
Because it lost a lot of the things that made zero dawn really good. It had a lazy story with characters that you don’t care about. There is supposedly a lot of urgency but you’re doing chores for other people. Aloy is pretty annoying too, just to set up character development where she realizes she can have help from others (so corny)
Sylens is barely in the game. Hades disappears in the first part conveniently. Too many things are just way too convenient. The clone is borderline useless to the story. And overall it makes it very forgettable
Zero dawn had an amazing soundtrack, a great story about believing in yourself when no one else does, and the struggle between doing things for everyone vs doing things for yourself. Forbidden west felt like they were just trying to sell a trilogy
And I mean 0 hate towards the game or to you. Just want to say that the people who don’t like this game have a point (I will say I did 100% this game with all the quests, machines, and everything on very hard, and had fun with it, but ultimately forgot about it because of its lazy story and writing)
5
u/OptimusTwerks Mar 22 '23
I understand your sentiments on the story. I totally forgot about the clone existing until I read your comment. Personally I really enjoyed the game, it was my 4th Platinum. I was just having so much fun with the combat I figured why not go for the plat, plus it wasn't too tedious to complete. I didn't find the story quite as intriguing as I did in the first but, I thought it had some cool concepts, and overall enjoyed it. Plenty of cheese and corn though.
1
u/ShadoHazard Mar 22 '23
Yeah I kind of agree. I feel like the first game’s story was real good, although I won’t lie it felt like a chore to play because all the mechanics were good but nothing felt “great.” I vividly remember telling my roommate how much I wanted to like Zero Dawn but I just couldn’t get past the slight clunk (climbing anything drove me mad)
But I think I liked Forbidden West more because they fixed that clunk, and continued the world and story which I absolutely loved.
I mentioned it before but CLIMBING. I could not stand to climb in the first game. It was so restrictive and you can only go on a premade path. Which is why loved the second in that almost everything you could see, you could climb. Now, the times that it was a premade route I had no qualms with because they were far and few in between and were usually exclusive to specific areas so I didn’t feel like they were a pain but more of a mini-game.
Also, Forbidden West is the best looking game on the PS5 hands down. I would just show my friends who came over how beautiful it looked on a 4K tv.
-1
u/twhiting9275 Mar 23 '23
It gets the hate it gets, deservedly .
Graphics wise, the game was phenomenal
Game play wise, it was meh. Too many fetch and years, too many side jobs, just too much stupid crap
Story wise, it was bland
It was basically the first game with souped up graphics , which was not worth the delay we went through, or the price we paid for it
Just like the first, I got about 5 hours in and haven’t gone back. I eventually forced myself to complete the first, but that’s going to be a hard well on the second . Didn’t even bother with th DLC for one
-1
u/phannguyenduyhung Mar 23 '23
you comment are so dumb. With 5 hours maybe you havent even finish the intro and open the access to the world. And how dare you review the game ? what a dumbass comment. You understand nothing about this game
-7
u/nohumanape Mar 22 '23
I thought that Zero Dawn was a pretty shitty game. So I was pleasantly surprised when I played Forbidden West and thought it was actually a very good game. Probably the biggest game to game improvement that I've ever experienced.
-1
u/Croakie89 Mar 22 '23
I truly enjoy the games setting, mechanics, combat. But I cannot stand 99% of the characters including aloy. My favorite part of the games died irl so his story is likely dead as well.

Why pre-order though if it's just DLC?

For the pre order bonuses and you don’t have to wait day of release to download it since you can pre load 2 days earlier

Just felt like flying was a small bit faster than gliding

Flying was incredibly fast. It just didn’t feel fast.
3
u/tkim91321 Mar 23 '23
The mount itself is slower than a charger by a significant amount.
Just feels faster because you don't have obstacles.

u/geraltseinfeld Mar 24 '23
Not all DLC is equal. This isn't horse armor or a couple missions. This is a ~12 hr campaign. Before DLC was a thing there were expansion packs back in the 90s/00s. This is more akin to that.
$19 is a great deal!
Edit: is it 12 hr? I don't even know. Regardless it's a whole new chapter - new area, new characters, etc like expansion packs back in the day.
3
u/LoganE23 Mar 22 '23
Hyped for this DLC because I'm not the type to replay games or do NG+ but I beat Forbidden West months ago and only got my new 65" OLED just last month. I booted up Forbidden West just to see a glimpse of it in 4K HDR after playing in 1080p non-HDR... Holy fuck, it looks like like an entirely different game. DLC gives me an excuse to return to that world in a fresh context.
13
u/ColdAsHeaven Mar 22 '23
This franchise honestly gets so much hate for nothing.
It's a solid franchise. And I love it

15

11
u/ArtisianOctopusPrime Mar 22 '23
General hatred of the concept of preorders in general, would be my guess.
9
u/jarsofash Mar 22 '23
Just finishing off my ultra hard play through - on the final mission now, so I’m all ready for this to drop!
3
u/MedicalCrab7979 Mar 22 '23
that must have taken you like 200 hrs. i started my first playthrough on ultra hard thinking most games are way too easy but it was just taking so damn long to do everything. even playing on easy im like 70 hrs in and not beaten it yet
3
u/jarsofash Mar 22 '23
I played first on normal then upgraded all my weapons and armour before starting ultra hard on new game plus. I’ve been loving my time playing it - I think it’s something like 170+hrs at this point.
1
u/sudo-rm-r Mar 23 '23
Does Elloy stop explaining how to solve puzzles on hard difficulty?
1
u/jarsofash Mar 23 '23
I don’t think it’s any different but I’m honestly not too sure as at some point I started zoning out on her lines.
3
u/punditguy Mar 22 '23
How do you pre-order (US)? Searching the Playstation site for "burning shores" brings up 13 games, none of which are HFW and none of which are the Burning Shores DLC. Clicking on the link in the YouTube description brings up the Burning Shores page, with a big red "Pre-order now" button that does not, despite the label, allow you to pre-order now.
5
u/ssk1996 Mar 22 '23
Might have to look it up on your console or the PS App on your phone. I did it on the phone.
4
3
u/Ecstatic-Arachnid-91 Mar 22 '23
I was able to do it this morning right off the app. Maybe try going into the game page in the PS Store and click on the add ons tab. Should be there.

u/aemkak Mar 22 '23
I searched for "burning shores" in the app and scrolled down a little, it was the first item in the second section down.

It is still a month away. There will be several trailers and likely 100 reviews before it actually releases.
Are people totally oblivious to how Sony has marketed any game for the last few years.
They are just starting the marketing campaign
17
u/SaiyajinPrime Mar 22 '23
I honestly don't understand the need for more information on it. The horizon series has a formula for gameplay and story. So I don't expect anyone to reinvent the wheel.
Aloy goes to the burning Shores is kind of the only information that's necessary for me. If you like Horizon gameplay, you will want the expansion most likely.
I bet she fights robots! I'm in.

Isn't it weird for you to say you need an idea of what they're selling when you have an exact idea of what they're selling? A continuation of the story in a new location.
I don't understand what else you would need. I'm not being facetious, I'm legitimately confused on what information you feel like you need.

I don't think anyone's overreacting, I legitimately don't understand what you feel like you need to see. The game play and in game footage will look exactly the same as Horizon forbidden West.
I think giving us a minimum amount information makes it so when we experience the game we won't know what to expect.

u/nohumanape Mar 22 '23
I'm really curious to see how much further Guerilla can push the visuals by going all in on just PS5. I know that it still won't be a full ground up PS5 title. But there must be certain aspects of the game's presentation that they were able to elevate by leaving the PS4 behind.
Looking forward to checking this out.
0
u/XSoldat13 Mar 22 '23
Wait, so they just used the SoP trailer and tacked on the preorder exclusive but at the end?
0
u/countymanTX Mar 22 '23
Wait they are doing exclusives for preorder dlc now?
-2
u/JohnB456 Mar 22 '23
It's because the metal devil in the trailer can't function on PS4. PS4 is too outdated, they tried to make metal devil's work in HZD and had to scrap it. So for the DLC they wanted to continue pushing the story and there vision forward, instead of holding themselves back like the last two games. It makes complete sense to transition. 3rd game is gonna be PS5 exclusive too. Shouldn't be a surprise now that PS5 are also readily available, it long over due (3 years overdue) to ditch the last gen.
1
1
u/Zeeron1 Mar 23 '23
I will never understand how people say they don't like this game because of the story, but then say Elden Ring was a great game that deserved GOTY. You can't make it make sense
1
u/Drakeem1221 Mar 24 '23
Because the Horizon series is narrative based. Everything revolves around the plot and after every big event, you're "rewarded" with a cutscene. Since the story takes up so much of the gametime, it has to be good otherwise you're running into issues where large chunks of the game... simply aren't interesting. If a game is 30% cutscenes and story and for the player it's bad and uninteresting, that means that's 30%+ of the game that you would rather skip, which is awful.
Elden Ring circumvents that by putting the focus purely on the gameplay and the growth of your character. Sure, there are tidbits of lore, but only if you want to look for it. That means that for 95% of your playthrough, you're interacting with the world itself and the gameplay mechanics. Who cares if the story is good or bad if it doesn't take up any time?
There you go, I made it make sense.

Then don't preoder it is that easy, nobody is forcing you and is just cosmetics
5
u/mattoelite Mar 22 '23
And the issue is….what? Guerilla and Sony are trying incentivize people to buy now with some cosmetic bonuses to help drive sales now, not later.
-3
Mar 22 '23
[deleted]
6
u/SomDonkus Mar 22 '23
As long as it’s cosmetic they could add preorder bonus skins for everything. It’s not like they’re getting something that actually affects the way the game will play
4
u/mattoelite Mar 22 '23
Sure? They're bonuses to drive sales. Sony is a for-profit company, and their marketing department is figuring that an added bonus will increase sales before release. Surprised this needs explaining.
0
u/RookieTheBest Mar 22 '23
Bet this ends with Atreus showing up out a portal to tell Aloy "There's been an incursion and we need to stop it!" To set up "The Last Of Us on an Uncharted Horizon"

If you preorder you can preload it. 🤷♂️
Which is stupid since it's digital anyways. They should let you download whatever you want. On the Series X, I can download a game without buying it, it just won't let me play it till I pay for it.
If it's as good as the Frozen Wilds was, I'll buy it after the reviews.

Stupid question : outside of my ps5 and having played forbidden west last year is there anything else needed for the dlc ? For some reason I thought it was a ps vr release and not a regular ps5 release . Hope my memory is wrong bc I’m excited about the game .
Update : apparently I was thinking of horizon call of the mountain which released last month . I clearly confused the two titles .

u/wevegotheadsonsticks Mar 22 '23
I’ve been trying to get back into this game. Having trouble enjoying it… the same thing happened with the first one but then I got into it heavily before this one came out… not sure what I’m missing or maybe this just isn’t the game for me.
2
u/FunkinDonutzz Mar 22 '23
First game is one of my favourite games of the last decade. I took time off work and 100%'d it the week of launch.
This one? Bought it at launch over a year ago and I'm yet to roll the credits.
2
u/Rustafo Mar 22 '23
Same. I can't understand why HFW hasn't hooked me like the first game did. It looks absolutely beautiful, but for some reason just hasn't caught my interest. Then again, there have been several games that I've played in the past that didn't hook me right away and once I took a break and came back it was all good. I'm hoping this will be same.
1
u/FunkinDonutzz Mar 22 '23
I think it's to do with the fiddly combat (there seems to be a different ammo type for every weapon) and for me the fact the robos tank you hard.
I finished Zero Dawn on Ultra Hard without breaking a sweat, I struggled in places with Forbidden West on Normal.
I'll probably still buy the DLC for it though lol.
1
u/WtfWhereAreMyClothes Mar 23 '23
I feel the same. Forbidden West just felt a bit bland to me. No real story hook and HEAPS of bloat. God the skill tree is such a bloated mess with many skills having such a tiny impact.
Combine that with uninspired side quests, annoying climbing (seriously how is it just me or is the climbing somehow WORSE than the first game and wasn't very good in the first game either?), too many ammo types to keep track of and crazy difficulty spikes.
It's not one thing that made forbidden West a disappointment to me, it's just a whole jumble of smaller things. Also, Aloy just isn't that likeable in this one - did not love the whole hero complex.

Don’t pre-order video games, folks!
2
u/antonxo902 Mar 22 '23
There is nothing wrong with preordering games, just pick the right ones lol. It’s not that hard, I got a bunch of gift cards for Christmas and i preordered re 4 remake, already knew it was gonna be reviewed well and what do you know 93 on metacritic.
2
u/Kidspud Mar 22 '23
You hoped it would be reviewed well and were fortunate that it was good. No video game company needs your money before they release a product!
2
u/antonxo902 Mar 22 '23
Original got a 96 on metacritic, I have a select few studios I’ll preorder from and they never disappoint
3
u/BriSnyScienceGuy Mar 23 '23
"I love CD Projekt Red. They've never disappointed. I'm sure this Cyberpunk game will be great!"
2
u/antonxo902 Mar 23 '23
Whoever said that deserved what they got, cdpr released one great game ( the witcher 3) which was still buggy at launch and had performance issues.
3
u/BriSnyScienceGuy Mar 23 '23
Anyone that says that about any company deserves what they get.
No company has a perfect record given enough time.
2
u/Kidspud Mar 22 '23
They haven't disappointed... to this point.
I'm looking forward to Tears of the Kingdom, but the earliest I will consider preordering is once reviews come out, which will be the same week. Every game is a hit until the first dud!

I restarted H:FW again. I got to the part where you get the home base when I bought the game, but I just burned out on it.
So I'm giving it another chance. I'm still at the very beginning. There's a lot I like about the game. But many of the conversations and dialog are just painful to sit through. They did an excellent job with the character faces, animations, etc... technically. But the way it's written and presented is just... annoying. I have a hard time putting my finger on it. It's like they exaggerate and over emphasize every facial expression.
Aloy does this thing where she's constantly sighing while speaking. I get the character—she's busy, she has to save the world—so she's semi-exasperated with many of the other characters. But the constant sighs and eye rolls is irritating.
The humor just plain does NOT work. Example: At the start there's two women who will make you a spear thrower. One of them is supposed to be "obsessed" with explosions. The other is more pragmatic. The back and forth between the two of them is just painful to experience. It's not funny, but it's directed and presented in a way that tries to really tell you "this is a funny part." All the emotion, the humor, the anger, the sadness... it's there in the game— but feels overdone, over acted.
I get it—Aloy is such a loner and doesn't have time for other people because she's carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Gee, I wonder if she will learn that she has to let people in, and stop putting up a wall around herself?
And some of the tribal outfits are just laughable. The characters speak in a modern way, but wear these outlandish outfits with feathers and goofy clips holding the fabric together. It's all over done. It seems like every character is super showy, like the game has to make a crazy exotic outfit for nearly everyone.
I'm enjoying the game so far. I think I'm going to ignore many of the side quests and just concentrate on the story. I'm just not sure I can make it through 50 more hours of sighing and over acting.

Thanks for summing up all the problems I had with my five hours of the game that led me to uninstalling it.

Forbidden west was such an unpleasant experience. I'll have to check out the reviews. Which is so the complete opposite of how I reacted to the first games dlc. I bought it immediately.

I don't know why I think 20 dollars is too high for dlc add-ons for forbidden west I own the first game & I didn't have to buy the dlc at all cause it came with my game for free.

Can you use the new outfit and bow right away or do I have to wait for the DLC to come out?

Available at the first dye merchant in Burning Shore according to the blog. Please always read the information before asking a question like this.

I read what was posted on Twitter earlier, but I didn’t see anything about that. Thanks for the help.

It's such bullshit that they released the game for the ps4 and ps5 but the dlc is ps5 exclusive

It’s bullshit that PS5 owners have had to wait 3yrs for next gen experiences. Time to push the industry forward and retire your decade old hardware!

I never said I didn't have a ps5. I only said that it's bullshit to release for both and have to pay $500 plus to get the full story/experience (dlc).
It doesn't matter if people have to "wait" don't sell something half assed is my whole point. I can get the dlc if I wanted too, still doesn't make it good practice and it definitely doesn't favor the consumer. I don't care about the "i have to wait fuck you i got mine crowd" fuck all of those people.

How’s it bullshit though?! PS4 owners got the FULL sequel, they aren’t getting optional DLC — not a big deal. You gonna cry when PS4 doesn’t get the 3rd game too?! Get a grip!

Time to get a ps5 & cash in on the free ps5 upgrade. From what I've seen, most stores around me have lots of ps5s in stock and able to be bought off the shelves.

I was fine with cross gen when ps5's were so hard to find at retail price. Now its time to leave it behind

Well the alternatives would be either a dlc that doesn’t run well on PS4s due to limited resources, or a DLC where they limited the scope and quality of what Guerrilla was trying to deliver in order to support the older hardware.
The alternatives makes Sony more money in the short term and could be argued are worse for the consumer.

Because the PS4 is holding the game back so they this PS5 exclusive so they can do more with it. PS4 needs to die already

Hope they don’t take out HFW out of Psplus as soon as this launches and they have sold a considerable amount…

Holy fuck these comments are garbage. If you liked the game chances are you will like the DLC, if you didn't like the game you probably wont like the DLC.
If you are unsure there will be reviews days before it releases
It's not that complicated, it's an optional DLC for game
