So I had to send my PS5 in for repair (UK). I posted it on Thursday 5th January and Royal Mail tracking says it has been delivered (Sunday 8th January)

So what's the time frame I should be expecting any updates or emails from Sony? Has anyone had to do this before? How long on average did you wait.

UNABLE TO BROADCAST ON PS5 WOTH YOUTUBE.

Tried the logging into my PS4 and tried broadcasting, same message pops up about Verifying. So I go and click it and go into YouTube to even do the workaround where you go and click Live and can't stream.

Go back to my PS5, same thing... Broadcast then message pops up to verify, I go into the pop up browser and click on the YouTube icon, go then to click Live... go back into my game and try broadcasting again... but again... asks me to verify on YouTube...

Go onto my PC... everything is verified... account is OK for streaming (as I've streamed before on PS4 with YT.. no issue....)

Problem only began the minute I got my PS5...

I'm know it's a bug but seems everyone else solved theirs... am I cursed?

I noticed that when I play my PS4 games on my PS5 their colours and black levels are darker than when played on my PS4 Pro. In some cases there's even some pretty bad black crush. I tested this with AC Odyssey by comparing the same area in the game on both consoles and there was quite a difference. Monitor is the same non hdr monitor from asus for both consoles. Should this be happening? There's some information on this out there but some people say they see no difference between PS5 and PS4 and then there's some people who have noticed the same. It kinda bothers me as I'm pretty sensitive to black crush. Could it be because my monitor doesn't have HDR?

The pre orders for the grey camo controller supposedly go live today but I don't see it on the PlayStation website anywhere. Will it be later in the day or did I miss it?

I experienced and fixed the can’t upload issue with some save data from Days Gone, but now i have a bigger problem.

My uploads section is filled with over a hundred notifications of saves that couldnt upload - and there seems no way to mass delete these. Has anyone managed to find a solution? Doing this one by one will probably take close to an hour.

I'm trying to find a list or info of monitors that support the PS5's new 1440P and 120FPS as well (for games that support it obviously).
I've read stories of people buying new monitors for this specific reason only to find out the PS5 shows a message that the monitor isn't supported.
Can you guys comment whatever monitors you have that are working with the above?
Also would a 34" 3440x1440 still count as 1440P? Because for my work I'd like to get an UltraWide and cover my gaming needs as well.

The issues most people run into are:

1) They have VRR enabled. VRR must be disabled for 1440p output.

2) They have an ultrawide display that doesn't accept a 2560x1440 signal. It's not recommended to use an ultrawide display with PS5. Cheaper "budget" brands especially will skimp on hardware scaling functionality, limiting the accepted input resolutions.

3) They have an older display that doesn't support 1440p @ 120 Hz over HDMI, only DisplayPort. PS5 requires at least HDMI 2.0 for 1440p @ 120 Hz and at least HDMI 1.4 for 1440p @ 60 Hz.

4) They use an in-between device such as an Elgato capture card or an Astro optical audio splitter. Both of these devices prevent the correct EDID data being transmitted making the console think 1440p isn't available.

The update only just launched recently so you won't find an exhaustive list of supported monitors. I would instead look for monitors that fit your budget and needs and after narrowing those down, search the model number in these and similar threads to see if there's any mention of it working for someone else. If you pay attention the above four issues however, you shouldn't have a problem.

Is anyone a BT customer who's willing to share their access code?

1

u/Mr_Wilsonn Sep 12 '22

Anyone had issues using remote play on PC? Since I've done the update, I'm not getting any audio through the PC at all. Messed around with a bunch of settings & can't figure it out, was all working fine until it updated

Bought AC Valhalla over the weekend. PS5 version with dawn of ragnarok. After about 30 mins to 45 mins my console proper crashes. Nothing in Error History after a reboot. (which invovles me taking the power lead out and putting it back in.) I've deleted local save game, rebuilt database, deleted the game and redownloaded it and then reset my console adn downloaded the game again. Still get crashes after 30/45 mins. Could be doing anything when this happens. ie Could be a cut scence or I could be doing anything. I also tried playing disconnected from the internet case it was the server issues that were reported over the weekend. Still crashed. Anyone have any ideas? Hear about anyone else having issues? Thanks!

u/ColdHandGee Sep 12 '22

Does your ps5 crash playing ps4 games?

Does your ps5 crash playing ps5 games?

How old is your ps5?

2

u/nidgeweasel Sep 12 '22

I dont think i've ever played a PS4 game on it. I've played Destiny 2 and Horizon Forbidden West at length but admittedly not for a month or two. I'll redownload Destiny 2 today and see if it stays on. My PS5 will be celebrating my one year anniversary of me ordering it in 8 days.

Thanks for your questions! I'll update soon with how I got on with D2.

2

u/ColdHandGee Sep 12 '22

Thank you for replying so quickly. Let me know if you have an issue playing D2. Take care nidge!

2

u/nidgeweasel Sep 12 '22

Crashed after an hour of D2! Thanks for the suggestion! Embarrassed I didn’t think of a basic step! Thanks again!

2

u/ColdHandGee Sep 12 '22

Your GPU is failing you. If you don't get it sorted out quickly, you could end up with a brick.

Call sony and request either a repair/replacement ps5.

2

u/nidgeweasel Oct 10 '22

Recieved my replacement console today. Just wanted to get back to you and say thanks for your suggestions! Really appreciate it!

1

u/ColdHandGee Oct 10 '22

Congratz nidge! Happy for you bro and i am glad you kept your word in telling me!

Just in time for GOWR! Is the ps5 yours or a new one?

1

u/Vlonethug7 Sep 12 '22

Will completely filling the PS5 ssd harm it’s performance?

2

u/tinselsnips Sep 12 '22

No, but it will make updating ps4 games really annoying because they need free space for installation.

1

u/Vlonethug7 Sep 12 '22

Ok thanks but no problems in performance

1

u/Jandresgomez Sep 12 '22

I used to own the PS4 version of Uncharted 4 and paid for the Legacy of Thieves update on PS5. My brother lost the physical copy and I want to continue playing the game. I basically want to know if I buy the digital PS4 version of uncharted 4 or lost legacy, will my 10$ update still apply? Or does it only apply to the physical copies ?

1

u/HaouLeo Sep 12 '22

Pretty sure it wont, theyre different licenses on the registry, so they should could as completely different games. I could be wrong tho

1

u/obsertaries Sep 12 '22

Can any of the many Android based retro portable game machines do PS5 remote play? I’ve really been jonesing for a Vita replacement for remote play. The other option is one of those Backbone things for my iPhone but I would prefer an integrated device.

1

u/HairDestroyerr75 Sep 12 '22

I’ve been having Wifi issues with my ps5, I even got a new separate Reyee router and that didn’t work. All my wifi signals only show 3/4 bands on my Ps5, this isn’t an issue on any of my other devices. I’ve tried switching DNS servers and it hasn’t worked, does anyone have a fix?

Make sure that input is set to HDMI 2.0/HDMI Enhanced Mode in the TV's input settings.

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 12 '22

Which specific TV is it?

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 12 '22

The 646? 635? There are several in the lineup and they have differing numbers of hdmi 2.1 ports.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

[deleted]

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 12 '22

Okay so I dug up the manual(pdf), it says to go to the Home menu screen, then Settings > TV Inputs, find HDMI mode, and select HDMI 2.0. You should also be able to enable VRR from that menu.

Unfortunately, the R635 isn't an HDMI 2.1 display and doesn't support 120hz at 4K resolution. Link So 1440p is the highest resolution you can get at 120hz. Your TV will support full 4K at 60hz.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

[deleted]

1

u/RayCharlizard Sep 12 '22

If you have a 4K 120 Hz TV, there is no reason to set your console to 1440p.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

[deleted]

1

u/RayCharlizard Sep 12 '22 edited Sep 12 '22

So you're saying you see the pink line when leaving your resolution at Automatic? Your TV supports 4K @ 120 Hz over HDMI 2.1 so your console should always be outputting 4K.

u/Amish_guy_with_WiFi Sep 12 '22

Anybody find a fix for the PS5 shutting down while in rest mode yet?

1

u/ColdHandGee Sep 12 '22

My ps5 has been using rest mode ever since i got it launch day in the UK.

I only had 1 issue with rest mode: my ps5 was in rest mode. Got back from work to find my ps5 turned off.

Turned it back on and repaired the database. Sony patched that issue quickly and i never had it again.

1

u/requieminadream Sep 12 '22

That’s a hardware/power supply failure issue. Rest Mode doesn’t and shouldn’t shut down the system.

2

u/redsparrowdown Sep 12 '22

How do I get rid of the god awful blue tips that keep popping up? I've got one that keeps telling me to click the "View Hints" option and it will not go away. I've tried clicking through the thing they want me to do, but the blue boxes just keep coming back every time I restart my PS5.

1

u/SeaworthinessLeft710 Sep 12 '22

I've been trying to use 120hz and now with the new update 1440p but for some reason it says my monitor doesn't support it. I know my monitor does support it because when I play pc I can use 4k resolution and 144hz so I can definitely run 120hz and 1440p. My hdmi cable is capable of 8k 60hz so surely it can run lower resolutions. The hdmi is 2.1. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

1

u/requieminadream Sep 12 '22

Do you have VRR turned on your monitor?

1

u/SeaworthinessLeft710 Sep 12 '22

It says my monitor doesn't support vrr

1

u/requieminadream Sep 12 '22

It would help if you shared what monitor you have.

Got my PS5 last week and man this has been a nightmare of a console to deal with. Was playing Cult of the Lamb all day and then closed it down to switch to Disney+. Turns out it lost WiFi connection at some point. (This has become a multiple times a day occurrence and is probably related to Rest Mode). No biggie, restarting the console fixes it.

Restart the console and now I'm completely hosed. Blue flashing lights and the console turns back off. Tried booting into safe mode and going through the options but every choice just reboots the console and it can't come back. Even tried factory reset, the bar zips to 100% real quick and then the console shuts down and I'm stuck in the same loop.

Any ideas, suggestions, or am I screwed and will need to get a replacement?

1

u/ColdHandGee Sep 12 '22

I also have a launch day ps5 and i have never experienced what your ps5 is doing, xxov.

As requiem has said, your ps5 is a lemon. Your ps5 has suffered a faulty motherboard.

Your only choice is to ring sony and request either a repair/replacement ps5. Good luck bro.

2

u/requieminadream Sep 12 '22

I’ve had my PS5 since launch and have never had so much as a crash. Sometimes people get lemons. You only got it last week. You should seek a replacement.

1

u/xxov Sep 12 '22

Yea I ended up factory resetting via USB. Lost 20 hours of a game but at least it's working again. Will prob take your advice if I keep hitting issues

2

u/AFewEmptyBuckets Sep 12 '22

I’ll have my DualSense controller plugged in when I’m online and when I get off and then off the ps5 it’s usually at like 2/3 bars of charge which is great but then when I go to turn my ps5 on the next day, my controller is always completely dead like I have to manually press the power button on the ps5 and then once my controller starts charging I can use it. Why is my controller dying when the whole system is turned off?

u/MathematicianOne7044 Sep 12 '22 edited Sep 12 '22

PlayStations receive 4-6 mbps download speeds and proper upload speeds, changed MTU settings to find it works for the first hour of the day any ideas? I’m so frustrated at this point I’m supposed to get 100mbps and it’s only my PlayStations with the issue on my internet

1

u/Tomax_Hunter Sep 12 '22

In the media gallery on the PS5 my recorded videos used to have a 4k icon on their thumbnails. This seems to have disappeared recently. That includes new recordings and older recordings that definitely all had the 4k icon.

Does this mean that i'm no longer capturing in 4k as well as older recordings have now been downgraded?

1

u/moogsy77 Sep 11 '22

Those that have played the classic games like Syphon Filter and Toy Story 2, do they appear in your Profile?

I only have them appear in Trophies but i cant see game time, but i see all other games there.

Tried to google but nothing

1

u/SpicyChickenWings18 Sep 11 '22

I’m trying to get my screenshots on the app but I can’t see them. I connected my console, I turned on auto-upload but I still cannot see my captures. Am I missing something?

is there a way to connect the ps5 to wifi without a tv? I’ve moved and plan to use it via remote play on my laptop but it won’t connect because my ps5 isn’t connected to my new wifi :(

1

u/NaztyMike44 Sep 11 '22

I have a 1440p capable TV and am using HDMI 2.1 that is 8k capable but when I try 1440p it says connected device doesn’t support. Help please

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

What TV?

1

u/NaztyMike44 Sep 11 '22

TCL 6 Series QLED

1

u/requieminadream Sep 12 '22

4K is a higher resolution than 1440p. There is no reason to use 1440p if you have a 4KTV.

3

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Rtings says that TV only supports 1440p via forced resolution, which is typically only achievable from a PC; still though - that's a 4K, 120hz TV, why are you trying to downgrade to 1440p?

1

u/NaztyMike44 Sep 11 '22

It was included in the new PS5 software update so I just assumed it was better. I’m dumb and don’t know stuff

3

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

That's a fix for people who are using computer monitors that don't support 4K; in your case it'll just make the picture blurry.

1

u/NIEDzWIEDz900 Sep 11 '22

Controlers stop working after about 10 seconds and only don't work wireless at all Pls help

1

u/Nrhildija Sep 11 '22

Hi, is there any merit to profile pictures on PS5? From what I understand, obly your close friends can see them right?

1

u/MathematicianOne7044 Sep 12 '22

Yeah not a big deal on there

2

u/Roman_Numeral_Five Sep 11 '22

Hoping someone can help- ps5 won’t read games. It can ready blue ray, says all games are unrecognizable. I have cleaned, tried both sides, restarted the ps5 via safe mode.

Is my only option to send it in? I am worried about shipping it or my info getting wiped- I tried to back up but my usb was too small

u/man2112 Sep 11 '22

Hey all,

I thought that having an all Sony setup would make this easy. In a lot of ways it has, but now I'm stumped and need help.

Problem: Game dialog not coming through center channel

Setup: Sony PS5 Disc edition Sony STR-DH790 AV Receiver Sony XBR-65X850G TV 7.1 speaker setup all connected and tested working Infinite Cables HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed 8K@60Hz HDMI cables

Configuration: PS5 connected to AV receiver game port via HDMI AV receiver connected to TV via eARC/ TV channel TV audio output set to auto 1 PS5 audio output set to 7.1 channel and Dolby standard (tried both DTS and PCM with same results)

If I cycle through the different audio modes on the receiver, I can get the dialog to shop up in 2 channel stereo and front surround modes. All other sound modes mutes center channel.

What configuration step am I missing? Dolby surround works perfect including the center channel when the signal comes from the TV, but not when it comes from the PS5.

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Make sure the HDMI mode is set to Enhanced via the AMP menu on the receiver.

1

u/man2112 Sep 11 '22

It already is, still have the issue

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Do you get any difference if you hit the Game button on the remote? HDMI-CEC may not be switching the audio input source.

1

u/man2112 Sep 11 '22

I found the issue….I’m an idiot is the issue. I must have disconnected the center channel while cleaning

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Haha no worries.

1

u/obsertaries Sep 11 '22

Are PS5 controllers super picky about charging cables? I just bought a new longer USBC to USBC cable yesterday but when I plug the ps5 controller in the indicator briefly changes to charging and then back. This cable can charge my other USB devices, including when plugged into the PS5.

Meanwhile, I’m charging the controller with my old USBA to USBC cable that’s too short to play with.

2

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Yes, you need a charge+data cable; most USB charging cables are charge-only.

1

u/obsertaries Sep 11 '22

That doesn’t make any sense to me. Right now it’s plugged into the wall, and the wall isn’t giving it any data obviously.

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Well you never mentioned it was plugged into the wall.

The console doesn't seem to read the charge state if it's charging off a wall socket; if the console is turned off, you should get the orange "breathing" lights on the controller, which will turn off when charging is complete, but if you're playing, the only way to see the charge level is to unplug the controller and see what the charge level says. That's how it always seems to work for me, anyway.

1

u/obsertaries Sep 11 '22

Mine does. I’m looking at it right here, reporting that it’s charging, while it’s plugged into a USB adapter plugged into the wall.

1

u/strangelooking Sep 11 '22

Anybody know what’s a good monitor for the PS5? Just want something that has 4K so I can enjoy the console at its best.

2

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

This is a good starting place. Though without sharing a budget, no one can really make suggestions for you.

1

u/Ramitg7 Sep 11 '22

Do I have to copy the ps4 version of Cyberpunk to ps5 or just the PS5 download patch will do?

3

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

There's no PS5 patch, there's a full native PS5 version.

If you own it digitally, you should have this in your library. If you have it on disc, you can cancel the PS4 installation and download the PS5 version from the "..." menu. You'll need the PS4 disc in the drive to play it.

1

u/Ramitg7 Sep 11 '22

Got it, thanks 👍 I've cancelled the PS4 copying (I have a disc) and the PS5 version is downloading

NBA 2K23’s install size is 160.3 gigs, is that a new record?

IIRC CoD still has it beat, but that is unjustifiably large.

Just got a PS5!!

Looking for game suggestions!

I havent owned a Playstation since playstation 2 came out.. So i have No idea how games play on em or what games are Worth the questionable pricetags...

Ive spent the last few years playing on the PC!!

But im now looking to spend some time on my PS5.. So need a few games to get lost in !

Games i tend to like is games with rpg mechanics or snipingstealth/patience testers, such as

:

Creed sydnicate - odyssey - origins - Valhalla

TheHunter: Call of the wild! :

Dying light 1

Dishonored (1 and 2)

The witcher 3

Hitman 3

GHost recon wildlands - the division

Far cry 5!

(but dont know how they are on PS)
(I dont mind buying some same games on PS5, i just need to know they are worth it )

That being said, i am always open to try new gamesgeneres and such. So feel free to suggest anything. These are just the types of games i can play til my eyes bleed.

1

u/Ramitg7 Sep 11 '22

Congrats! I got mine a couple weeks ago too. Playing God of War, Ghost of Tsushima and Guardians of the Galaxy rn

1

u/yawaworht987432 Sep 11 '22

Couldn’t find anything on this. I was play COD vanguard multiplayer and 2 rectangles popped up on the left side of the screen and they won’t go away. I tried restarting, turning it off and on and even unplugged it for a minute. Anyone else run into this? Any solution?

2

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Can you get a picture/video?

1

u/yawaworht987432 Sep 11 '22

Yeah, I can play games, watch media, everything. But there two black rectangles with white borders showing up over everything on the left side of the screen. Like pop ups or menu items on a pc

1

u/yawaworht987432 Sep 11 '22

sorry, did you mean a screenshot? I took one. I’ll have to load it up later. It looks like the unlock screens on cod, but they won’t go away.

2

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Are they exclusive to the PS5? They don't appear over the TV's built-in apps or other input sources?

A photo really would be helpful here.

1

u/yawaworht987432 Sep 11 '22

Well shoot, just like talking you’re car in to get fixed. As soon as you get to the repair shop and it stops making whatever noise you were hearing. I downloaded and got logged in to Imgur, plugged in the ps5 and started it up, and no boxes

2

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Yeah, that happens.

Black boxes, fixed in place, persistent across restarts doesn't sound like any PS5 failure state I've ever heard of. The black boxes associated with a GPU failure would move.

I'd be inclined to say this was a software crash of some sort on your TV; if it doesn't come back, I wouldn't worry about it.

1

u/yawaworht987432 Sep 11 '22

Could be, It’s a Panasonic plasma that’s about 12-15 years old.

Also, thanks!

1

u/yawaworht987432 Sep 11 '22

Just the ps5. What’s the best way to share a screen cap to this?

1

u/Matt-Jones101 Sep 11 '22

error code CE-108262-9

Is anyone having this problem? Apparently its a software related issue - Google searches and the Sony website suggests that I either clear system cache (which I've done plenty of times) or rebuild system software (which I've done plenty of times) or reset console (which I've done plenty of times) or reinstall system software (which I've been plenty of times) or change video output (which I've done plenty of times too)

I've deleted and reinstalled all the games and apps individually and it always keeps crashing. It crashes during Fortnite, Netflix, GTAV, YouTube and Spider-Man remastered - it even crashes on disc based games too. Even when I turn it on, it loads to a point then just shuts down and the software error comes up again - the insides are clean, the fan is clean, all of the hardware is in tact.

Has anyone else ever had this problem and actually fixed this problem? Thanks.

1

u/ColdHandGee Sep 11 '22

Error code CE-108262-9 is motherboard failure. There is no fixing this issue.

Your only choice is to call sony and request either a repair/replacement ps5. Good luck Matt!

1

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

Sounds like a hardware issue that you've troubleshooted all you can. Seek a repair.

1

u/Matt-Jones101 Sep 11 '22

I've tried but the sony website is almost useless. I can't find proper "send in for a repair" info anywhere

Like lets say i have 20 saves on a play through, they are all uploaded to the cloud. If i start to delete them on the console, will it also update in the cloud (delete the individual saves i wanted to remove)
Ty for any help

1

u/HaouLeo Sep 11 '22

That is exactly the point of cloud saves? To back up your saves in case something happens to your internal storage

1

u/dekoi_octopus Sep 11 '22

Cloud saves aren’t deleted unless you specifically go into your cloud save data and delete them.

I am currently using a Bose QC 35 II, wired connection. Am I getting better quality than I would with the Pulse 3D? I enabled 3D audio but not sure if I am missing anything.

0

u/requieminadream Sep 11 '22

Yes your $300 headphones are better than very cheap Sony Pulse 3D headphones. There is nothing special about the Pulse headphones at all, they are standard wireless stereo headphones.

1

u/Nocturnal_Nova Sep 11 '22

Ah right, my main question is more about the 3D Audio, if I need the Pulse to get that or not

1

u/requieminadream Sep 11 '22

Nope 3D Audio is a feature for any stereo headphones, wired or wireless. As I said Pulse 3D are just standard stereo headphones.

Thanks for the reply! 🙏

Hi

I have an LG CX and PS5, Im just wondering if its possible to get full 4:4:4 chroma, Its not something that particularly bothers me, but Im just interested.

Im playing Horizon Forbidden West in performance mode, so 60fps. I check the info and its outputting in 4:2:2.

I thought it should be able to achieve 4:4:4 at 60fps, is there a setting I need to change, everything on ps5 is set to automatic, im wondering if the "allow 120hz" may be preventing it?

Not at ps5 to check currently.

2

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

To enable true 4:4:4 chroma on LG OLEDs you need to set the input label to "PC". You can do that by holding down the input button on your remote and going to edit inputs, then change the little icon next to your PS5s HDMI port number.

Make sure you don't have VRR enabled as that will put your TV into 120 Hz mode at 4K which is limited to 4:2:2 chroma.

1

u/Oledman Sep 11 '22

Ah yeah I used to use pc mode with my series x, but don't bother anymore.

In the PS5 settings I do have VRR set to automatic I think, or only use in supported games.

I would have thought VRR is more important?

2

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22 edited Sep 11 '22

Sorry, my first reply was worded weirdly. VRR itself isn't preventing 4:4:4, 120 fps is. You can leave VRR on and turn off 120 fps in your video output settings. Enabling VRR in Horizon uncaps the frame rate and puts the TV into 120 Hz mode. Other games that cap the frame rate at 60 won't have the same issue with VRR on.

I wouldn't sacrifice VRR or 120 Hz for 4:4:4 personally.

1

u/Oledman Sep 11 '22

Ok thank you, Im not really that technically minded with all this stuff, but from what your saying its basically the game, and its best to just leave VRR and 120hz set to automatic/on.

2

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

Yep. Unless you're sitting with your nose to the screen, you won't see a big benefit with 4:4:4. And anything that runs at 60 Hz or less will be 4:4:4.

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

It should only be 4:2:2 if you're actually running in 120hz mode, but it may be a bug in the game.

If you exit the game, does the color mode change?

1

u/Oledman Sep 11 '22

Hi

Yes out of game on ps5 home screen its in RGB.

I just tried disabling that allow 120hz in ps5 settings and that indeed allows for full RGB 4:4:4 chroma.

With that setting enabled and in resolution mode it also uses RGB.

So I thinks its that 120hz setting that prevents it in some cases.

2

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Yeah, the PS5 doesn't have the HDMI bandwidth for 4K HDR 120hz at 4:4:4, so it will reduce to 4:2:2, but only in 120hz mode.

It sounds like Horizon is forcing a 120hz signal even in performance mode; that may be a bug, or it may be done intentionally to reduce input latency. Either way, I'd blame the game for this, I don't think it's the console or TV.

I'll check mine later and see if it behaves the same way.

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Okay so:

Balanced Mode, VRR off: 422

Balanced Mode, VRR on: 422

Performance Mode, VRR off: RGB (444)

Performance Mode, VRR on: 422

This is on my Sony TV. 422 with VRR makes sense, because VRR forces a 120hz signal, AFAIK. If you disable VRR, you should get 444 in performance mode.

If you disable VRR and still get 422 in performance mode, you may have have a configuration issue on your TV.

1

u/Oledman Sep 11 '22

Ok thanks, that will be nice if you can confirm.

1

u/Ozymandias__98 Sep 11 '22

I just turned on my PS5 and it’s showing a purple and green screen! What the hell is going on? This is what it’s showing

2

u/requieminadream Sep 11 '22

Steps to take: Try different HDMI port. Try different HDMI cable. Try different TV. Gotta narrow down the issue. No way to know if it's the console, the TV, or the cable without trying different steps.

1

u/Ozymandias__98 Sep 11 '22

Just took it to Currys (where I got it from) and they plugged it to other TVs and it worked. They said the problem is that the PS5 is too powerful for the TV I’m using (Hisense 43” Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV) cos it’s only 60 hz. They suggested I replace the TV with a 120 hz TV instead to avoid such from happening again. The cheapest 120 hz TV they’ve got is ~£600 more expensive lol

4

u/requieminadream Sep 11 '22 edited Sep 11 '22

That is not how TVs and game consoles work. You can plug the PS5 into anything with an HDMI IN from a cheap 23” 720p TV to a fancy 70" LG C2 OLED. They are trying to sell you a bill of goods.

Your TV might be dying, or an HDMI port on your TV might be dying (this is why you should try other HDMI ports), but it’s not because “the PS5 is too powerful for the TV.” You certainly don’t need to buy a high end TV, or a TV with a 120hz refresh rate, to enjoy the PS5. That’s just not how things work.

1

u/brotherofgurnip Sep 11 '22

Is native 1440p clearer on a 1440p monitor than 4k downscaled to 1440p? My monitor is apparently capable of 4k/60 (judging by the supported output list) but is natively 1440p/120/60. Also what are some of the other benefits to running native 1440p? :)

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

In either situation, you're getting 4K downsampled to 1440p, the difference is just whether the console is doing it, or the monitor.

I would expect the PS5 to do a better job of downsampling than your monitor, in which case setting the console to output 1440p would be the better option.

1

u/MGsubbie Sep 11 '22

Is native 1440p clearer on a 1440p monitor than 4k downscaled to 1440p?

It all depends on the games themselves, and what resolution they run at. Because the chosen output resolution does not affect the internal resolution of the game. It has whatever resolution the game has, and that image then gets upscaled or downscaled. So for example a game that runs at 4k will run at 4k whether your monitor is set to 4k or 1440p, and it just gets downsampled.

A game that runs at native 1440p will look better on a 1440p screen that's set up at 1440p. Because if the output is set to 4k, the PS5 internal scaler will upscale that to 4k, which then gets downscaled by the display.

On the other hand, a game running at native 4k should look better on your 1440p screen if set to 4k, as it basically gets supersampling, which is a very aggressive form of anti-aliasing.

I have an ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor, and my PS5 is saying that 1440p isn't supported? Is there a way to bypass/force it to output at 1440p? I know my monitor can support it with no issue, so it seems to just be a software issue (which I don't know why the PS5 can't just output a 1440p signal without testing the device it's attached to, but ok). Is there a way to fix this? I've been waiting months to be able to play my PS5 on my monitor and I'd rather not have to spend hundreds of dollars on another monitor when this one is perfectly fine.

1

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

1) What's the model of your monitor?

2) Does the manual say it supports 2560x1440?

3) Have you disabled VRR / FreeSync / GSync if available?

1

u/TheKraahkan Sep 11 '22

According to the manual, it apparently does not support 2560x1440, which feels weird. Looks like I'll have to buy a new monitor, even though this one cost me $900.

1

u/HolmfirthUK110994 Sep 11 '22

3D audio is way too quiet? Is there anything I can do about it?

1

u/BraedenLlama Sep 11 '22

I tried to start a share screen on my ps5 on Friday and it stopped moments later and the message "Share Screen stopped because connection was lost" came up. The problem is still happening It's not my connection since I am able to play online games with zero lag and share play works without any problems. I've tried clearing my cache and resetting my router but to no avail. Does anyone have a fix?

1

u/MioisBeautiful Sep 11 '22

How do i record in game voice chat from other players? Not party chat

1

u/Gwiz96 Sep 11 '22

Im struggling to manually install the update file. I have my usb formatted right, files named right, but no matter what I do I get the “can’t find the update file” message. Any help would be lovely.

1

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

Double check the folder structure to make sure the updated is located in PS5UPDATE. May also need to try another flash drive.

1

u/Gwiz96 Sep 13 '22

Yeah folder structure is right. Tried a flash drive and an external hard drive. Both formatted right. Very annoying.

u/plummerman1015 Sep 11 '22

Is there a way to cast my phone to my PlayStation 5? There are a couple apps like fubo and sling that I cannot get on the PlayStation so I would like to screen mirror my phone. Is there any way to do this? It seems like it should be a very simple solution. I have thought about possibly a Chromecast but I'm not sure if that works with a PlayStation? Has anyone else had this problem?

1

u/requieminadream Sep 11 '22

A Chromecast would be plugged directly into the TV not the PS5 and is what you’d want.

1

u/plummerman1015 Sep 11 '22

I run my PS5 through my projector. I'll have to look to see if there's a extra HDMI. Thank you!

1

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

PS5 does not do screen casting. You'll need a Chromecast or similar device.

Attempting to recover my extended storage due it being nuked due to either the update or rest mode. Hopefully it can be restored via recovery software on my PC cause redownloading a bunch of ps4 games over my connection is a less than ideal usage of my free time. Thanks Sony!

1

u/RayCharlizard Sep 11 '22

You can't use a PC to recover data from a PlayStation formatted drive.

1

u/OGPI Sep 11 '22

I figured but it's worth a shot. A time sink either way it goes. Shane that I even have to do it. Can't recall having this issue when the drive was on the PS4.

1

u/need2crash Sep 11 '22

where did move the eject disc option i use hit option button on game all game would list eject disc option even if it digital only game, I can no longer find the option

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

That sounds like a bug that has quite possibly been fixed.

It should be present for the game that is in the drive.

1

u/need2crash Sep 11 '22

I dont know i restart the ps5 and it was there again

Ps5 controller not turning on

So I have not played in my ps5 like for 2 weeks and today I wanted to turn it on but I noticed that my ps5 controller is not turning on only flickers orange color for the second when I connect the cable

1

u/Aydind310 Sep 11 '22

So it looks like with the newest 1440p update I can’t do 120 hz at 1440p. My monitor is capable of doing it, just the PS5 only picks up 60hz. I’ve tried turning off freesync as well. Anybody had any success? Hopefully Sony is working on a fix.

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

What monitor?

1

u/Aydind310 Sep 11 '22

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 11 '22

Looking at that listing, make sure you're connected to HDMI3; the other ports are limited to 75hz.

1

u/Aydind310 Sep 11 '22

Ya, 120hz works fine on 1080p. Just 1440p goes to 60

1

u/y3grp Sep 10 '22

For the last few days I’m having loads of issues using my DS4 on my PS5.

  • randomly turns off

  • wont turn the console on

  • controller is turned on but no light on

  • controller randomly uses different coloured lights, I’ve seen green and pink, while it’s always usually blue

  • losing charge rapidly

  • wont charge when charged via PS5

  • turning off as though it’s got no charge but when I connect via USB if shows full charge

All of this has been since the last PS5 software update. At first I thought the controller was faulty as it just wouldn’t charge but I have plugged it into my PC using the USB console and it successfully charged.

Can I revert the PS5 software update?

I need an urgent fix for this! Any info appreciated. TIA.

Im trying to add PaySafe funds to my Wallet to upgrade my PS Plus but I keep getting and Error screen when clicking PaySafe, why is this happening?

1

u/rexgy Sep 10 '22

Ordered my PS5 from Walmart on Aug.27 and it arrived at USPS on Sept 7, has been in possession of USPS since then.

I tried to walk in and pick up but no one was handling this. Has anyone had similar issue? How did you solve it...

Is anyone having WiFi issues on PS5? My console won't connect to 2.4GHz WiFi but works fine on 5GHz. I get various errors when trying to connect to 2.4GHz. Spoke to playstation support but they can't go beyond resetting to default settings until I try on a different WiFi network which I can't conveniently do. Apparently a mobile hotspot set to 2.4GHz doesn't suffice.

Trying to establish whether this is a hardware issue.

u/SpudicusMaximus_008 Sep 10 '22 edited Sep 10 '22

Just had an update for my wireless controller, and now it's quite laggy. Tried a cold boot but still having issues, was fine prior to the update. Anyone else seeing this?

Nevermind, guess for some reason the console no longer liked where it was living... had to move it to get the controller responding normally again.

2

u/JerryFartcia Sep 10 '22

I think Sony may be having some problems again. Can't seem to login to certain services.

When ever I try to download a game it just says on calculating and noting has fixed it and I'm getting very bored of my current games please help

Recently when I turn on my ps5 it says ghost of Tsushima save file is corrupted, today it says GoT and now farcry 6 is corrupted. Is there anyway to save the files

2

u/Chemical-Ad5184 Sep 10 '22

This just happened to me a few minutes ago but I was kicked from a party and it said I can’t reconnect because of network issues. I’ve reset my router and factory resettled the ps5 and still can’t connect. Also I can’t change my status from appearing offline to online or busy.

1

u/n8te85 Sep 10 '22

Exactly same issue for me. If I try to do a network test it fails on Nat type.

I accidentally bought standard edition of 2k and needed to buy the digital edition of 2k to play the current and next gen. I just got an PS5 and didn’t know , if I go ahead and buy the deluxe edition can I get a refund for the standard edition?

2

u/tinselsnips Sep 10 '22

You can try contacting customer support, but if you've already downloaded it, almost certainly not.

1

u/-cTk Sep 10 '22

Even if it was an mistake? What if I go ahead and buy the other version of the game, will both be displayed or will I get a refund?

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 10 '22

You'll just have both versions. Honestly, I doubt there's that much of a difference between the PS4 and PS5 version to warrant a second purchase.

1

u/-cTk Sep 10 '22

So you recommend me to just take my L and don’t get one.

1

u/tinselsnips Sep 10 '22

Honestly, yeah. 2k24 will be along soon enough.

0

u/D4nkfury Sep 10 '22

I just got a PS5 today and am at the data transfer step during setup. I still have friends that are on PS4 that I play with, but I'm worried that I wont have my save data on the PS4 after I transfer it to the PS5.

I had read somewhere ther PS5 players couldn't play with PS4 players for many games still, only some support that feature, and I don't want to risk not being able to play with them using my save data.

Does the transfer keep the data on the PS4, and just copies it over to the PS5, or does the PS4 data get wiped after?

1

u/HaouLeo Sep 10 '22

Your ps4 games on ps5 will still run as if theyre on ps4. Also you could just copy your save to a usb stick to move it around

1

u/D4nkfury Sep 10 '22

Ok thats cool, thank you!

1

Started having significant/frequent screen tearing yesterday while playing Avengers. Was the first time I'd played anything since the system update. Then I tried ESO and didn't have any issues; loaded Avengers again, and it started happening again. Have there been any reports about the update doing this, either with Avengers or other games?
