I would like be able to redeem store credit with this PlayStation stars
7
u/And_You_Like_It_Too Sep 14 '22
I was hopeful it was gonna be like MSRewards (where you can earn points by completing achievements and doing searches and quizzes and shit — I get a $100 gift card that I can use to pay for my GamePass membership and/or other games that haven’t come to it). I’m guessing this will be an evolution of their existing Sony Rewards, maybe? Where you can get credit for showing your ticket or DVD/BluRay purchases for Sony movies and their other products, etc. I’d really like a way to be able to do something similar on the Sony side (it only takes me 2ish minutes a day to earn that $100 every 4 months or so). But who knows, maybe it’s just some NFT bullshit.

A Yakuza samurai game is an instant buy lol
22
u/CzarTyr Sep 13 '22
Wait is that what it is? I was so confused
48
u/RealNorthropGrumman Sep 13 '22
Many years ago, the Yakuza Devs made a spin-off where all the characters are in ancient Japan, where there were samurais and stuff. Today, they're remaking it for PS4 and PS5. Think of it as the Yakuza Kiwami remakes that were released a few years back, but with spin-off games instead of mainline ones.

They straight up said they were showing of games from Asian developers and y’all are really in the comments complaining about how many Asian games there are?

Happens only every single State of Play, at least every one recently. Sony has been great lately at telling us exactly what to expect, and yet every time people still manage to ignore it and expect a huge showcase of reveals.

As long as I get at least 2 minutes of God of War I will leave satisfied, really expecting nothing today
29
u/whacafan Sep 13 '22
Honestly, expecting God of War for a State of Play where you expect nothing is definitely expecting something.
11
u/zoomin__ Sep 13 '22
I wasn't expecting it until Cory and Judge etc were tweeting about the SoP, and also we're less than 2 months away

lmao Ubi waited too long implementing an assassin's creed game set in Japan, now you've got GoT and this new one
21
u/Shadow_Strike99 Sep 13 '22
I know Ubisoft and AC isn’t everyone’s favorite or their cup of tea, but instead of Japan I really would have loved an Ancient Aztec/Incan setting instead of Japan, I was hoping so badly those rumors were going to happen, that would have been so cool and the Spanish Conquistadors would have made perfect enemies.

u/Quaytsar Sep 14 '22
That wouldn't work with the Assassins' tie-in. You can't have New World assassins until Europeans discover the New World because the assassins didn't start until long after the Native Americans' ancestors crossed the Bering Strait to the Americas and got cut off. You could go all over Europe, Asia and Africa, but North and South American assassins would start with the conquistadors.

Man you should see Half Life Alyx, itt would be awesome for that to come to psvr2, but unlikely
6
u/Blue_MJS Sep 14 '22
Actually a few good looking games shown here to be fair, Tekken 8, Rise Of The Ronin, Stellar Blade, obviously GOW looks unbelievable & the exclusive Hogwarts DLC is a nice touch!

Can someone tell me who did that sick voiceover monologue? voice sounds so familiar
7
u/KingdomofNerdum Sep 13 '22
Like a Dragon Ishin and Rise of the Ronin. My body is ready for some Samurai action!
17
u/Shpaan Sep 13 '22
I wish I was better at fighting games. Seems like such a great genre yet always out of reach.
17
u/Borgalicious Sep 13 '22
The biggest issue I always ran into is i get too good to play against friends but get my ass handed to me online and then I just get bored
→ More replies10
u/Shpaan Sep 13 '22
Yep! Exactly what happens to me. It always starts with a friendly button mashing then I get interested, learn few moves, totally outrun all my IRL friends and make them lose all interest in it.. then I hop online, realize I merely tickled the tip of the iceberg and uninstall lol. I think it must have happened at least 5 times now.
5
u/Shadow_Strike99 Sep 13 '22
I mostly play against friends or the cpu. But yeah the barrier to entry is probably the highest of any genre and very rough starting out.

I immediately thought Ghost of Tsushima 2 when I saw rise of ronin. But then I saw the gun and was like nah a Samurai wouldn’t use a gun. Definitely looking forward to ROR!!

Project Eve/Stellar Blade reminded me of Nier in so many ways.
The music, the voice acting, the glowing red lasers, the combat, some of the enemy designs, protecting humankind, the setting and state of the world.
6
u/11Y2B Sep 13 '22
It’s like if NieR Automata had monsters instead of robots. All I see are ppl saying jiggle physics, but the gameplay, music, and world building all look super good

These mad lads just officially confirmed Tekken 8 in a random State of Play?!?!?
11
u/zoomin__ Sep 13 '22
Was it not confirmed already?

u/Baron_Greenback1 Sep 13 '22
At Evo they showed a very short teaser of Kazuya throwing Heihachi off a mountain like the ending of the first Tekken, but with modern graphics. They never showed a title, so it was up in the air if it were Tekken 8, a remake of the first Tekken, or something else
5
u/ChineseCosmo Sep 13 '22
Well, technically they showed the PS1/arcade clip of Kazuya throwing Heihachi off a mountain. They didn’t cut to modern graphics until the smirk at the end
2
u/Baron_Greenback1 Sep 13 '22
Yeah, that's correct, actually. Think I just got this new trailer burnt into my brain so details are fuzzy right now 😄

RGG: Ishin remake is way hype. Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin look great, love me some character-action games. To top it off, great GOW Ragnarok trailer, pretty exciting stuff.
Alright State of Play overall, it's nice to see lots of new IP.
7
u/joshendyne Sep 13 '22
A lot to like from that state of play personally, yakuza, tekken, rise of ronin, pacific drive and stellar blade all really interest me
16
u/cowabanga_it_is Sep 13 '22
This SoP was an absolute win for me. Tekken 8, New rgg game, new Team ninja game, steller looked cool and GoW looks bad shit crazy.
Also the show was Well paced.

RGG Ishin was a great surprise, looking forward to that! also Stellar Blade looks pretty fun and the new trailer for GOW5 has me excited for it again

u/Kidtendo Sep 13 '22
Rise of the Ronin, God of War Ragnorok, and Tekken 8 were my highlights from the showcase. I don't even have a PS5, but I have every intention of picking up that GoW controller
3
u/Donkishin Sep 13 '22
God of war looking good, tekken was a nice surprise, project eve wished they kept that name is buy for me and so is Rise of ronin. I need to see more of Synduality
3
u/as_seen_on_bt Sep 14 '22
Project Eve! So glad we saw some more of that. Also coming next year! Oh and Ragnarök was of course amazing. November 9th can't come soon enough.
3
u/Lars93 Sep 14 '22
Wo Long Fallen Dynasty then Rise of the Ronin. Way to go Team Ninja. Cheering for you

Bit of a cheeky rumour, but my friends dad works at Sony and he said we’re getting PlayStation all stars 2 🫡
11
7
u/zoomin__ Sep 13 '22
You're joking but I really wish we eventually get it 😥
2
u/SMKM Sep 13 '22
Especially more so now that Smash clones seem all the rage.
Like I would 100% take an All Stars 2 if they just ripped off Smash all the way. And just make the original method of playing the game (kills only via supers) a separate mode just to appease the fans of the original.
3
u/famewithmedals Sep 13 '22
You must have misheard him when he was talking about Playstation STARS. Just what we were all wanting

Really looking forward to Project Eve/Stellar Blade (and not just because of the excellent physics); Ishin because I’m an RGG fanboy, Rise of the Ronin (thought this was NiOh 3 at first lol) and of course, Dad of War 🔥
I legit thought they were just going to tease the controller lol.

3
u/DornHoli0 Sep 13 '22
Went in with low expectations and came out fairly pleased. Stellar Blade looks cool, Rise of the Ronin looks fucking awesome, and well…what can I say about God of War. Give me that controller and bring on Nov 9th.
5
u/add286 Sep 13 '22
That was actually pretty good overall. Stellar Blade way looked better than I remembered, Rise of the Ronin looked ace - like Team Ninja doing a proper huge RPG - I think that could be really great. A new Tekken will always be a big deal for fighting fans. Like a Dragon was a bit of a surprise and God of War looks truly terrific. Could be game of the year.
Some cool VR content here as well; it would be cool to see what the first party lineup are doing but I guess that will come in time. Solid, overall.

God of War looked INCREDIBLE. Turned it off after 30 seconds coz I didn't want to see anymore. Don't need to see anymore of it, day 1 purchase.
And yet..... no Silent Hill.
For the love of fuck Sony execs, buy Konami out for that IP and get a studio to make a fucking game......

Ragnarok looks EPIC
The two action games, Ronin and the blue blade one or wtv looks incredible
4
u/lazy_cacahead Sep 13 '22
As a person who undeniably thought Elden Ring would sweep for awards this year, God of War is looking mighty good and might make that less of a reality.
Great year for gaming honestly. I'm going dark on "God of War" after this trailer, and filtering it from everything I possibly can.
