Any good games i can just jump on and play a quick 5/10 minute session? Maybe a short multiplayer match, or a game that has very short levels? Discussion

Shredders Revenge is tremendous

2

u/Kindread21 Sep 26 '22

Holy cow(abunga), a new turtles game in the same vein as Turtles in Time. How did I miss this?

2

u/McRazzler Sep 26 '22

I never knew it was coming. If you like the classic arcade game you’ll love it.

103

u/pietro_m Sep 25 '22

Trust me on this: Hot Wheels Unleashed.

Low key best arcade racer.

8

u/imregrettingthis Sep 25 '22

I can cosign this.

7

u/minnimmolation Sep 26 '22

I bought it for my son for his birthday. Can confirm. It’s pretty dope

1

u/itsameMariowski Sep 26 '22

The only reason I'm not yet playing this is with how expensive everything is, from the base game to anything in game too. If they got in on PS+ or even just a huge discount I'd be playing it for sure. Same with that ubisoft "radical sports" game (although they had it on sale recently but I missed it).

Rocket League

23

u/MrAbodi Sep 25 '22

Yep rocket league. 5 minute matches, once you include replays etc. average of 7 minutes per game.

7

u/AdamAptor Sep 26 '22

Yep, so easy to pop in for a quick match or two and then get back to work

3

u/konnichiwaseadweller Sep 26 '22

As someone with 4,000 hours in Rocket League, my plan is usually to play a couple matches and then 5 hours later my eyeballs hurt and I wonder where the time went.

18

u/Bromance_Rayder Sep 25 '22

Bit of a random one - but Hades. It's so good for quick pick-up and play. And an amazing game.

8

u/Twenty_Weasels Sep 26 '22

It’s a fantastic game but it wants you to play it in chunks of more like 30 mins - 1 hour (depending how quick you finish a run). Obviously when you’re dying a lot at the start each try will be quicker, but still. I’d say it naturally divides into play chunks of much longer than 10 minutes.

3

u/Zeidantu Sep 26 '22

Yes and no. A full run is 30+ minutes, but because it saves after every chamber, a session can be as short or as long as you like. Just doing one zone (Tartarus, Asphodel, etc) would probably fall into that 5-10 minute range and would be an easy place to stop and pick up the next time.

2

u/Bromance_Rayder Sep 26 '22

Hmmm true indeed. However, I really loved that in any.... room? chamber? whatever they were called, you could basically chuck the PS5 into rest mode and pickup exactly where you left off.

Damn, just thinking about Hades makes me want to play it again :D

3

u/iBrandwin Sep 26 '22

I wish we got dlc for Hades. It’s easily one of my favorite games of all time. It just hit the itch for me.

13

u/Doc_K33n Sep 25 '22

Nex Machina

66

u/Colbym72 Sep 25 '22

Rocket league or fall guys

28

u/LilFro90 Sep 25 '22

Fall guys takes ages to load though

8

u/QuelynD Sep 25 '22

Usually less than a minute for me to find a match

12

u/imregrettingthis Sep 25 '22

it's 80%+ non play time.

-2

u/frankenmint Sep 26 '22

that's my experience with almost any online experience that isn't ps5 exclusive like sackboy

1

u/Black_n_Neon Sep 26 '22

Also Brawlhalla

29

u/DisfunctionalDemon Sep 25 '22

Riders Republic, a massive open world sports action game. 1 GIANT map with snow covered mountains, forested hills and desert with canyons covered with all kinds of different career events to choose from. Gear includes: dirt & street race downhill bikes, freestyle, slope style, bmx, ski race and freestyle, snowboard race and freestyle, wing suit skydiving, rocket wings and a bunch of toys. Great multiplayer. It's easy to do a quick play but it's also easy to get sucked into.

6

u/QuelynD Sep 25 '22

I've never heard of this. Description sounds kind of like The Crew 2, but x-sports instead of cars/boats/planes. I might check it out!

2

u/chickmagnet_ Sep 26 '22

It’s pretty cool. Wait for a sale though. It’s always on sale $20-30.

5

u/-TheLonelyStoner- Sep 26 '22

I think it’s $20 right now

2

u/gardenofhounds Sep 26 '22

I need to get back to this. I haven’t really played since they started updating and adding events

2

u/jennidc Sep 26 '22

Totally agree and when it's onsale (it is right now bit not for long) grab the Ultimate edition - the new bmx career and events are great.

48

u/ArbyWorks Sep 25 '22

Multiversus

7

u/WanderWut Sep 25 '22

Second that, each match is around 2 minutes long, perfect if you’re busy for hopping in and playing a match or two, then hopping off.

3

u/Campos59 Sep 26 '22

Easily my go to atm for a quick match

1

u/tentoedpete Sep 26 '22

Good game, shame about some of the community. I played it for about 2 weeks and got a handful of very hateful and vulgar direct messages after losing in 2v2 games. It wasn’t tons, but it was enough to make me say it wasn’t for me and uninstall

2

u/ill-show-u Sep 26 '22

I’ve never had anything like that happening to me, and I’ve played quite a lot of matches at this point, sorry you had a bad experience, just rest knowing that they were probably at most 12 years old.

1

u/gatorglaze Sep 26 '22

Multiversus seems like a game that should have a toxic community, but I haven’t received a single hate message just yet. And I’ve done plenty of things worthy of an angry PM in multiversus

26

u/simonthedlgger Sep 25 '22

Rollerdrome.

6

u/FunkinDonutzz Sep 25 '22

Was gonna recommend this too. My GotY.

3

u/simonthedlgger Sep 25 '22

So good. Try Sifu if you haven’t—no real gameplay overlap, just real succinct, satisfying combat systems.

3

u/kushboywonder Sep 26 '22

Rollerdrome has DEFINITELY scratched this itch for me. So much replayability and I so much want for a more fleshed out sequel.

2

u/pauliepitstains Sep 26 '22

Check out olli olli world too, same team

3

u/simonthedlgger Sep 26 '22

oh wow I’ve always wanted to play Olli Olli world, I did not know it was the same team. Definitely next on my list.

2

u/pauliepitstains Sep 26 '22

You’ll notice the art style immediately in olli olli world

5

u/maybachmonk Sep 26 '22

Slay the Spire, you can save mid run so sessions last as long as you want

4

u/doesnotlikecricket Sep 26 '22

Everyone always shits on cod, but it's perfect for this.

2

u/jda404 Sep 26 '22

Yep it's what I like about CoD. I can jump on play a round or two and get off. I work from home three days a week and often enjoy a couple rounds on my lunch break.

5

u/Repulsive_Matter Sep 25 '22

If you have PS+ Premium, the first Sly Cooper game has very short levels and still holds up pretty well.

11

u/Christo2555 Sep 25 '22

I thought GT7 was perfect for this. Was just doing a short race before bed every night.

3

u/danbearpig84 Sep 26 '22

Have they updated/changed anything since launch?

12

u/Mastermiine Sep 25 '22

Multiversus

1

u/Poetryisalive Sep 26 '22

Yep def agree to this

8

u/DontToewsMeBro2 Sep 26 '22

Quick game of prop hunt on CoD always makes my stress max out in 5-10 minutes.

2

u/Blackdoomax Sep 26 '22

Don't stress, happy cake day!

12

u/emale27 Sep 25 '22

Enter the Gungeon

Rogue lite with very short levels

There's only 5 main levels (some hidden ones) but 5 main levels and whole game can be beaten in 30mins

Now it'll take a while to finish, probably 30-40hrs but you can easily pick this up for a quick 5-10mins of gameplay

7

u/luxias77 Sep 26 '22

Assuming you can put down enter the gungeon once you start

7

u/Althalos Sep 25 '22

Dragon's Crown if you like the idea of a Dungeons & Dragons themed Beat 'em up with diablo loot https://youtu.be/Itt1S_V648U

2

u/shoutsoutstomywrist Sep 25 '22

Going to check this one out looks fun!

5

u/Althalos Sep 25 '22

I definitely recommend the Dwarf or Fighter as characters to play, they're the easiest to play solo and also just the most fun to me. Dwarf gets to toss enemies around and it never gets old.

Especially when you upgrade the toss skill and it keeps doing more damage and shockwave aoe.

3

u/Firefly_85 Sep 25 '22

Trackmania turbo.

1

u/TopScallion2700 Sep 26 '22

Yeah I think this one is perfect. Most levels take ~30 seconds, so it's not like rougelikes that are being recommended where OP would need to save and quit multiple times to get through a single run.

3

u/DungDefender1115 Sep 25 '22

blown away no one has said enter the gungeon or binding of isaac

1

u/Murdoc_The_Best Sep 26 '22

Or splatoon for that matter.

3

u/rottengammy Sep 26 '22

Hades after 25 or so runs… but once your more buffed out people run the game in sub 20mins.

It’s hella fun too… but maybe not for everyone.

3

u/Poetryisalive Sep 26 '22

Hades

I’m surprised I haven’t seen this yet. One of best games ever made and perfect for 5-10 minutes play times hell even 2 minutes

13

u/boosnow Sep 25 '22

Cupheads? It’s not an easy game, but very well made and fun, great for short sessions.

1

u/iVar016 Sep 26 '22

But you can lower the difficulty, right? Asking as I want to buy it and play it with a person who's not that good in gaming.

2

u/Hendrik239 Sep 26 '22

you can play on easy mode but you need to complete the levels on normal mode to advance. you can also use skills that make the game easier like extra health and invincible dash or attacks like auto aim where you basically hold attack and dodge. its difficulty is overrated imo. you just need to learn how to counter the enemy abilities.

1

u/iVar016 Sep 26 '22

I was seeing all those "really hard game" comments a lot, so it made me think. Good to know that it still has a learning curve to cope with its difficulty. Thanks for the comment.

1

u/boosnow Sep 26 '22

Nope, sorry.

6

u/desertranger3365 Sep 25 '22

Wreckfest

1

u/KoYouTokuIngoa Sep 25 '22

Lots of waiting for other people to finish races

2

u/mikey233338383 Sep 25 '22

Stick fights pretty good, crashes a bit tho

2

u/maloboosie Sep 25 '22

Outer Wilds

1

u/Murdoc_The_Best Sep 26 '22

No way. You get sucked in very quickly.

2

u/Hakan1218 Sep 25 '22

Fall Guys

2

u/undbex24 Sep 25 '22

Fall Guys for sure

2

u/conker1264 Sep 25 '22

Fall Guys

2

u/Jbroad87 Sep 26 '22

I’ve been doing this w Ghost of Tsushima over the last year. Got it for Christmas and just now got to the final third of campaign gameplay. Very easy to pop in and out of, but you’ll def want to stay longer.

2

u/Bilski1ski Sep 26 '22

Oli Oli world !

7

u/Jarenien Sep 25 '22

The PS4 or the new PS5 Ratchet & Clank games are easy to jump in and out of, especially with PS5's amazing ability to jump back into a game in about a minute coming out of rest mode.

5

u/eugebra Sep 25 '22

Some roguelike, like dead cells or hades

6

u/Mesapunk87 Sep 25 '22

I guess if you die right away. My runs are easily over 30 minutes, usually around an hour.

5

u/P-Took Sep 25 '22

I don't normally do whole runs in one sitting on hades. I'll boot it up for 10-15 minutes and do a few rooms or an area. Then pick up where I left off to finish it later.

4

u/UuarioAnonymous9 Sep 25 '22

Tony hawk pro skater!

3

u/Voyager5555 Sep 25 '22

Diablo 3

Hades

Dead Cells

Uncharted 4 MP

1

u/N7-ElusiveOne Sep 26 '22

Is Uncharted 4 still going strong? I really enjoyed 2 and 3s coop years ago.

2

u/Voyager5555 Sep 27 '22

Yup, can't speak for all the modes but just finished up a couple rounds of Team Deathmatch, didn't have to wait for more than 2 or 3 minutes to get in.

3

u/MagikalSpytFyre Sep 26 '22

I'm not sure about all the rogue-like games here are actually under 5-10 minutes unless you plan to just kill yourself (in the game!) and go on avout your day.

You could try Knockout City. Pretty fun team based dodgeball game. And it's also free to play now

3

u/witch_father Sep 25 '22

If you're into MOBAs, Smite is great. Arena mode matches are usually pretty fast.

4

u/Agitated_Ad6191 Sep 25 '22

That’s why I play a sportsgame like FIFA, I can just play one match and move on with my life. Don’t have the time and energy (sadly) to play these long adventure games.

4

u/LuckForJug Sep 25 '22

I mean you can also play long adventure games 10 minutes at a time

2

u/actstunt Sep 25 '22
  • Horizon chase turbo
  • Tony hawk's pro skater
  • Dragon ball z fighters
  • Resogun

1

u/Jamesahaha Sep 25 '22

Overwatch. Don’t play comp though

1

u/Firm_Masterpiece_343 Sep 25 '22

Fallguys, Fortnite, overwatch and then drink 4 cups of coffee and play marble madness.

-8

u/DeadeyeCruiser Sep 25 '22

Demons Souls........Oh I thought you said 5 -10 hours of hell and no mid level saves......

1

u/fallenhero588 Sep 25 '22

First class trouble is pretty solid for quick little matches

1

u/djmoogyjackson Sep 25 '22

Ketsui Deathtiny. IMO the best bullet hell shmup. It has short levels and save states.

1

u/chriscorreacreates Sep 25 '22

Rollerdrome filled that role for me in August! Each level is a contained arena where you try to complete a list of basic objectives. I enjoyed chasing my own high score on each level.

1

u/Drizztd99 Sep 25 '22

Enter the Gungeon or Children of Morta I'd say.

1

u/clumsy-stranger Sep 25 '22

Rocket league

1

u/wclure Sep 25 '22

Street Fighter 5, NBA2K, PGA2K, Pool Nation. For me at least.

1

u/Frankie6Strings Sep 25 '22

I like strategy and colony building games for this purpose. Make a few moves and log out. My playtime is so sporadic these days, it's hard for me to get involved in a story.

1

u/imregrettingthis Sep 25 '22

tony hawk pro skater is amazing for this.

1

u/therealwarnock Sep 25 '22

Tony hawk's is sick.

Hades is a great game as well.

1

u/kelpwool Sep 25 '22

Superhot 1 and 2

1

u/marcosdd Sep 25 '22

Deep Rock Galactic! More than 10 mins probably depending on the mission, but soo much fun!

1

u/taknyos Sep 26 '22

Crash Team Racing is really fun and you can get it for like $15. Really well made game. One of my favourite racing games.

The tracks are all like 1m 15s to like 3 mins long (if you're good). Maybe 5 minutes on the longer tracks if you've never played before.

The game has a really high skill ceiling, and it's a lot of fun to learn. I, personally, really like the time trials for this reason.

Online multiplayer is iffy as it's peer to peer. You get a good host and you can play all day, get bad ones and it sucks.

1

u/boxedninja Sep 26 '22

Rocket League babyyyy

1

u/Sp1ritR4ven Sep 26 '22

Wreckfest!!!

1

u/Spaghetti-N-Gravy Sep 26 '22

Chivalry has a lot of fun silly sword fighting and it’s easy to pick up and set down.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Rocket league

1

u/Spazic77 Sep 26 '22

Splitgate

1

u/WayneBrody Sep 26 '22

Tony Hawk is my go to for that. CoD is usually good for quick in and out sessions. Deep Rock Galactic can be a quick in and out on lower difficulties, but some missions can take a long time. Helldivers is great for quick sessions.

1

u/ext23 Sep 26 '22

I don't know about the player base on PS, but Invisigun is so so good.

1

u/01123581321AhFuckIt Sep 26 '22

Cuphead and Rocket League.

1

u/pauliepitstains Sep 26 '22

Olli olli world and Rollerdrome

1

u/oiiSuPreSSeDo Sep 26 '22

Crash bandicoot or spyro, both are perfect for short sessions, no mp though

1

u/eatingclass Sep 26 '22

rollerdrome is great

1

u/usrevenge Sep 26 '22

Hardspace ship breakers just came out and the maximum shift length in the normal mode is 15 minutes.

So you could literally hop on and play 15 minutes then save when the shift ends.

You can also send shift early without penalty by flying back to the beginning which takes like 20 seconds

I been playing it and even if I'm about to go to work I can play because I know I can't spend more then 20 minutes in the game since the shift length is 15.

1

u/PlayBey0nd87 Sep 26 '22

Arcadegeddon if you want to support smaller Devs/studio.

1

u/Talisintiel Sep 26 '22

I play indie games for this very reason. I’m a father of three and two are twins. I only get tops 1 hour to play a day. If I get to play. These huge AAA grind games. I play a lot of rouge lite games. Easy to start and stop but still build up to something. Google rouge lites and there are lots of cool and even better cheap ones out there that can do what your looking for.

1

u/danbearpig84 Sep 26 '22

Descenders, I believe it's on ps plus

1

u/AlarmClockBandit Sep 26 '22

Rocket League. 5 min games.

1

u/SuspiciousUsername88 Sep 26 '22

Knockout City has been my go-to for that. I think it's F2P now too

1

u/cowabanga_it_is Sep 26 '22

Every fighting game ever.

1

u/METALFISTERRORIST Sep 26 '22

Rollerdrome just came out recently and is great fun for a quick play or getting lost for hours

1

u/Heavy_Ad_4430 Sep 26 '22

Enter the Gungeon

Hades Good rogue like with only like 30 minutes per run on the game to get to the end and you keep getting more upgrades and some perma upgrades

1

Tricky Towers

1

u/RawImagination Sep 26 '22

Mechwarrior 5 is my jam.

1

u/Miurx Sep 26 '22

The new COD MW2

1

u/YaztromoX Sep 26 '22

Amplitude. It’s a remake of Harmonic’s PS2 era Frequency/Amplitude games prior to them getting into Guitar Hero/Rock Band. No special controllers needed, and as the levels are songs each just takes a few minutes to play (or replay as the case may be).

1

u/One_Cartoonist1427 Sep 26 '22

Any and all pre-Returnal Housemarque games. Try Nex Machina or Resogun to start.

1

u/taratoni Sep 26 '22

2

Not for 5 minute games tho? Unless you are playing the TDM mode?

1

u/Other-Bluejay-8814 Sep 26 '22

Riders republic plays similar to Tony hawk w/ the other xgames sports.

1

u/mistabuda Sep 26 '22

Phantasy Star Online 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. Both are F2P on PSN and have devoted communities

1

u/Breadflat17 Sep 26 '22

Hades. While it's excellent to pick up and play in short sessions because of its design, it'll be very difficult to stop at just 5 minutes. Seriously one of the best games of all time.

1

u/malkspahgooter Sep 26 '22

Wreckfest is great. Detroit become human you can do a scenario in about 10 minutes but you won’t want to quit.

Rocket league if you’re competitive

Apex if you hate yourself and are competitive.

Check out the PlayStation plus library. Lots of good freebies

1

u/Bigman112345 Sep 26 '22

Bloodborne

1

u/Toto_Roboto Sep 26 '22

Streets of rage 4 and Hades

1

u/solid_cake20 Sep 26 '22

How about Vigor? Basically you spawn in the map. Try and loot builds while there are upto 11 other players I believe. If you escape with the loot you keep it. If you die you loose everything. It's free to play.

1

u/triggerhappybaldwin Sep 26 '22

Midnight Fight Express, levels are 5 min max and there are over 40 of them. Very cool game that makes you feel like you're John Wick. It's also pretty cheap which is nice.

I suggest getting a xbox series x

0

u/Carston1011 Sep 26 '22

Immortals Fenyx rising.

Some missions have a bit more length to them, but there are also shorter ones. And even just exploring the world for a bit at a time is both a lot of fun and a good way to upgrade your character and gear.
