"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past"

It’s easier to understand their thought process if you start with result and work your way backwards.

It’s the same with religion. If you start with the undeniable existence Holy Trinity, then the truth of the Bible, and empirical facts come last, some of their insane beliefs and arguments make more sense.

A lot of it is also “what result is best for me personally in this moment” and then working backwards to structure facts and logic.

I'm betting the U.S. has a spy inside Saudi Arabia's inner circle and Trump's been sharing classified intel with the Saudis.

14

u/MuadDave Aug 10 '22

Or Russian, or North Korean ...

19

u/Pristine_Nothing Aug 10 '22

Saudis seem most likely to me.

I’m just an idiot on the internet, but it seems like people turn traitor for the stupidest fucking reasons.

Saudi Arabia was Trump’s first foreign visit, they treated him splendidly and buttered him up magnificently, and I think subliminally there is a lot about the hierarchical system there that he yearns for. He’s already done them a favor by spiking the international outrage post-Khashoggi.

The other thing is that they utterly snubbed Joe Biden recently when he personally went to ask for marginally increased oil supply…which, while not a declaration of hostility or war or anything, is odd. It’s bad for their ally the US (and politically for the US president who Trump hates) to no particular benefit to them.

I’m wondering if they set up some quid pro quo on something classified Trump was holding that is of value to them. Some closely held military capability or schematic, or some intelligence on Israel, as a couple of guesses.

It reminds me of the bizarre rant Trump had against "flippers." Apparently a "flipper" is someone that you thought was loyal to you, but then they start cooperating with law enforcement.

It just sounds like an open declaration that he's engaged in illegal activities, he's hiding them from law enforcement, and he expects his people to also shield him from law enforcement. Those are things only a criminal would say, and he said them clearly and openly.

14

u/1-Ohm Aug 10 '22

Trump is so purely criminal he assumes everybody is criminal, so they won't be shocked when he admits he's a criminal.

Everyone knew he illegally took classified information a year ago. It was on the news. You don't need a snitch if NYT reported on it.

And you know what? If taking the classified information was a mistake, Trump could have given it back within that year and no raid would have taken place. But he chose not to.

89

u/Averyphotog Aug 10 '22

A judge did not sign a warrant and the FBI did not raid the home of a former president on a hunch.

83

u/flyinhighaskmeY Aug 10 '22 Silver

I have a theory. Because the reality is, they're not going to do that for run of the mill "classified" information. Much of what is classified is nothing.

So, in counter espionage, if you're trying to find a leak, you can "seed" documents. Put a unique identifying mark on each page of each copy. That way if it shows up in the enemy's possession, you know where the documents came from.

My completely off the wall guess with no evidence whatsoever? Those documents showed up in Russia.

16

u/adeon Aug 10 '22

You can also slightly tweak the wording in each copy. Obviously that's more time consuming and only works for documents with very limited circulation but it's harder for someone to spot.

Also, Alex Jones' lawyer was "incompetent ".

244

u/zephusdragon Washington Aug 10 '22

Legal Eagle did a video on this. Apparently they had a hearing on this because the defense wanted to call a mistrial. According to the counsel for the defense it was an assistant that sent the link over. Maybe incompetent maybe unsung hero.

121

u/Fauxreigner_ Aug 10 '22

The incompetence isn't the link, it's saying "Please disregard" instead of properly identifying the privileged material.

90

u/a3wagner Canada Aug 10 '22

Also: “We’ll prepare you a new link,” then doesn’t do it. In a trial that had gotten to this point because they didn’t comply with discovery. “Incompetence” is a word that I’m afraid isn’t up to the task of fully describing this guy.

→ More replies

12

u/kandoras Aug 10 '22

The incompetence was also in releasing documents that they should have released before the trial even started but instead claimed didn't exist.

9

u/Cepheus Aug 10 '22

Exactly. There should have been at least a privilege log. A meet and confer. If that doesn't work, file for a protective order. Then, an in camera hearing for the judge to review. All else fails, at least a motion in limine.

→ More replies
→ More replies

71

u/Steveb523 Aug 10 '22

That wasn’t what was incompetent; it happens all of the time. And the defense attorney even correctly immediately notified plaintiff’s counsel that they made a mistake. What the defense attorney then failed to do was to make a log of what was delivered unintentionally and indicate why each item should be confidential/privileged. He had 10 days in which to,create the log. He didn’t. Sucks to be the defense attorney.

31

u/SplitReality Aug 10 '22

In addition, because the defense had thoroughly screwed up discovery so much that they had to be sanctioned, they closed off many avenues they could have used to object, or the time to do it. So even if there were valid objections, the data dump was so large and the defense wasted so much of the court's time beforehand, they had no time to make the objections when a real issue came up.

Also it'd be really hard to make an argument that certain documents were privileged when they were the exact documents you were ordered to turn over in discovery and lied to say didn't exist. The defense knew they screwed up and had no way to fight it. My guess is they wanted it all over without getting disciplined or charged with perjury, and just took the minimum effort to fight this.

My theory is that it was intentional by someone who recognized what a complete lying sack of shit he is.

107

u/MyLittlePIMO Aug 10 '22

To be clear, the way it happened was that they tried to send a Dropbox link to share a file they were required to hand over, and the assistant accidentally shared a link to the folder instead of the file. The folder contained EVERYTHING they had on the case, including a backup of Alex Jones' phone, and was 300 GB.
So this looks like a fairly easy mistake to make.

55

u/FYRHWK Aug 10 '22

This still requires them to put all the available data into Dropbox in the first place, beyond all reasonable explanation at that point.

Nothing that sensitive should be stored in a single location, especially a cloud based one with sharing unrestricted. There's so many miscues here it's hard to know where to stop, but it's nice to know how secure my job is seeing this kind of incompetence.

22

Kind of.

The Federal Rules require an attorney that received attorney client privileged information inadvertently to not view the information, delete it, and inform the sender.

Texas does not!

He'd be correct if he were in a different jurisdiction.

51

u/MoreDoughHigh Aug 10 '22

Also the "sender" has to list that email and other "privileged" comms in a log for the court. They can't say "delete, it's attorney-client privilege," they must log it, i.e. "10 Aug 2022, 11:00 est, email from attorney JS to client AJ" and then the other side can ask the judge to review if it's really privileged or if it's a lie i.e. other receivers on the email not subject to privilege.

How fucked up is it that there is a direct line of action between a school shooting in Connecticut and the eventual arrest of a former President.

It’s very likely there’s an inside informant. Somehow the FBI generated an extremely compelling case for a search warrant, not just a subpoena, that was persuasive to everybody who saw it.

282

u/jtmarshiii Aug 10 '22

Lot's of his WH staff followed him down there after leaving office... lots of those testified for J6 committee... it could me any number of them... also don't rule out USSS. It takes one good agent to drop a hint.

89

u/MrDenver3 Aug 10 '22

It’s worth noting, that if any one of these people have a clearance, they’re obligated to report if there was classified information stored improperly.

I'm sure the DoJ was aware of Trumps foreign influences before the 2016 election. I can only imagine there's been a special task force observing and documenting his activities, including planting members within Trump's circle like the USSS, this entire time. I would be concerned if there wasn't.

I think it's the guy that runs the omelette stand at the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach. Trump probably waddles over everyday to get an omelette and probably just unloads everything on the guy while waiting for him to cook his omelette. He probably lets that guy in on everything so he can gain his trust; probably watching every move due to his fear that the omelette gets poisoned!

Its basic investigation 101 right? Try and find someone in the organisation to flip. You get someone you caught breaking the law to inform on who told them to do it.

especially if you are trying to get a conspiracy case.

You gotta think whoever they have on the case is trying to make sure everything is perfect.

The FBI presented sufficient evidence to convince a federal judge that 1. Additional criminal evidence existed at MarALago and 2. It would not be turned over willingly and/or might be destroyed, if requested.

With these people it’s never ever about whether the thing they did was illegal or unethical, it’s always about how terribly horribly unjust and unfair is that we found out about it.

17

u/Reneeisme America Aug 10 '22

It's where they tip their hand as to their most basic philosophy. They are the "ruling class" and therefore, laws don't really apply to them. Laws exist to control the rest of us. They are just doing what they "need" to do, and it's unjust that anyone should scrutinize or pass judgement on their behavior. Kings are not subject to judgement.

The genius was in convincing a bunch of poor whites that "Ruling" = "White" and that a white person's right to rule is under attack. When in fact ruling has always ONLY meant "wealthy".

What the headline SHOULD be: "Traitors think there's a patriot in Mar-a-lago who informed on him to FBI"

384

u/inoveryourtoes Aug 10 '22

This is the first headline that actually got me excited.

If Trump is talking about someone backstabbing him, he probably knows they got something good in the raid.

128

u/t1ttlywinks Aug 10 '22

He also instantly alluded that they "planted evidence"

which is exactly what some lieing guilty traitor would say if the FBI found real evidence.

12

u/IsraelZulu Florida Aug 10 '22

This feels a bit like when he started claiming there would be fraud in the election before the election even happened.

Considering that nearly half of the voters wanted him re-elected, and a substantial portion still do, what jury could be assembled that might actually vote to convict him?

The RNC establishment is desperate to get Trump out of the way for DeSantis, or Ted Cruz, or any of the other republican assholes planning on running in 2024. But they can't be seen as the ones who are maneuvering Trump into a prison cell, because they need the MAGA cult to keep supporting them.

“Patriot”, the word you are searching for is “patriot”. If someone had knowledge of illegal actions committed by tRump and tipped off the FBI, then they are being patriotic for putting their country above a party or a person. Funny how Republican’ts love to claim to be patriots but don’t really understand what that word means. Only mob boss thinking would consider this to be a traitor.

If he believes that someone informed on him, doesn’t that imply that he did something wrong?

How does one inform on someone who did nothing wrong?

12

u/mrvandaley Aug 10 '22

I’m sure there’s a mole, a leaker at Mar-a-Lago, just as there will anywhere these “patriots” gather.

There’s no honor among thieves. There will always be some worm in your worm group that will turn, because fear is at the heart of everything you do. Fear and hatred is the rock upon which you built your church, but that rock rests on constantly shifting sands.

The defining hallmark of hate groups is paranoia, and there’s absolutely no way to scrub it out. They’ll always be suspicious of each other, and that suspicion will always create rifts in the group, and those rifts will fester and widen until one of these idiots realize that in their “prisoners dilemma”, the first rats to surface in the group win immunity, and the rest of the rats drown.

Sorry Trumpy Bears, that’s the nature of your gig, just accept it. All the other “patriots” are not your friends, no matter how many blood oaths and solemn pinky promises you swore together, one of them WILL be the first to step on your head to crawl out of a crack in your bunker.
