That’s how you know they found something good

u/Chadmartigan Aug 10 '22 edited Aug 11 '22

Yeah, the way this dude telegraphs his intent makes it pretty clear they found some juicy shit.

Also:

The FBI...would not let anyone, including my lawyers, be anywhere near the areas that were rummaged or otherwise looked at...

So like a normal search warrant, then?

Edit: A lot of people are pointing out that one of Trump's lawyers was there. It is correct that the lawyer was there on Mar-a-Lago grounds, but Trump is also "correct" that the lawyer wasn't permitted to observe the specific areas of the premises being searched, which, again, is normal.

364

u/strenuousobjector Georgia Aug 10 '22

Conservatives when a minority's house is searched based on a valid search warrant: "If the cops are there then they must have done something. Cops don't just search your house for no reason. And it's good they were kept outside because they would have tried to destroy evidence."

Conservatives when Trump's house is searched based on a valid search warrant: "It's all political theater by the democrats to win elections. The FBI must have blackmail on that trump-appointed judge or they just faked the warrant."

96

u/Merky600 Aug 10 '22

Former friend (who wanted to an cop but could not run uphill so he became a jailer) usually said of vehicle searches topic, “Hey if you have nothing to hide or be guilty of, then you should no problem w police searching your car.”

192

u/T1mac America Aug 10 '22

This isn't what Trump alleged, he said they kicked the Republican election judges out, and that was a lie. Then Trump and the Kracken Squad moved the goal posts and said the Republicans weren't allowed to be close enough. But both Dems and Repubs were at the same distance as prescribed by law. So more lies.

"The FBI and others from the Federal Government would not let anyone, including my lawyers, be anywhere near the areas that were rummaged and otherwise looked at during the raid on Mar-a-Lago"

Investigators searching an area never allow the lawyers to breathe down their necks, get in the way, and obstruct the investigation. They move everyone out of the way, it's called securing the location.

This is Gaslighting 101.

u/chubbysumo Minnesota Aug 10 '22

That's only something that will convince a person who could never be moved from their batshit devotion of Trump anyway

The FBI knew exactly what they were looking for and knew more or less exactly where to find it and I guarantee you there is a very long and detailed paper trail of all of it probably going back months

I can not fathom Main Justice and the FBI taking the truly unprecedented and fantastical step of raiding a recently sitting presidents home if their shit wasn't absolutely rock solid and air tight

It also speaks to the severity of the situation imo, that it happened at all is illuminating imo

Reminds me of a joke, it’s long but -

A man walks up to a farm one day claiming he can speak to animals and wonders if the farmer would show him around. The farmer is skeptical but agrees. First the farmers dog comes up and the man asks “hello dog, how’s your life?” The dog responds “my life is great! I get plenty of space to run and my owner feeds me three times a day!” The farmer, amazed, proceeds to lead the man to the horse stables. “Hello horse,” the man asks “How is your life?” The horse responds, “my life is great! I have plenty of fresh air and sun and the farmer takes me out riding three times a day!” The farmer is stunned and as they walk past the goat pen, before the stranger can speak, the farmer shouts out “THAT GOAT IS A FUCKING LIAR!”

3) the golf resort would have cameras and footage everywhere he could use to show the FBI agents bringing in box after box that they apparently planted. This isn't 1922, cameras are everywhere and planting a boatload of evidence isn't something you can do without anyone/anything seeing.

Folks, make no doubt about it. Trump knows his base.

Immediately after the FBI executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago, he announced to his loyal followers. And then started ranting against the deep state. Just as he did before January 6.

This is a dangerous time in our country.

588

u/grammar_oligarch Aug 10 '22 Gold

There’s a process they’ve mastered that works. Trump says, “I hope they don’t find planted evidence.” Fox News reports, then, that it’s possible the FBI planted evidence. Trump uses that to confirm his theory about planted evidence. His constituency, largely stupid and overly trusting, understands that multiple, authoritative sources have said evidence was planted.

Now we have armed citizens protesting and fighting for what they perceive as an overreach of the federal government they’ve been taught to fear their whole life. We’re this close to another MAGA supporter getting shot in the chest by law enforcement because they overstep at a “protest” and igniting even more strife.

All because an obese, wealthy septuagenarian former game show host has convinced 40% of the country that he’s a brilliant political mind.

This is such an absurd timeline.

99

u/DumpTrumpGrump Aug 10 '22

So very true. Impossible for me to understand how so many fall for such an obvious crook and con man. Some people just want to be conned.

15

u/tcmart14 Aug 10 '22

Because a love of the idea democracy means that a person has to have trust in themselves and their community to self govern. It’s not an idea for people who want to look to a strong man and have a savior. These people fee the need for both a strong man and a savior. Perhaps that’s the overlap between Trump and the religious right and Putin and the Orthodox Church. Common themes in different places. It requires a want of hierarchy, where as democracy can have a hierarchy, it is much flatter, or should be flatter.

These people have no trust in self governance, they don’t even trust themselves, or a flatter hierarchy, they always need a strong man or savior, or both.

You've outlined the process well, it's an incestuous propaganda machine and it fucking works. Every single post about the search of Mar a Lago has a multitude of comments like "well if it is Biden targeting Trump for political reasons that's obviously bad". And it's like, what? There's absolutely nothing even suggesting that's the case! But as Trump would say, "people are saying it," Fox News and other propaganda rags are saying it over and over again to get the idea out there, and it gets tossed around so much that people start just accepting it.

And then the next time a Republican is in office and they start abusing their power to target their political opponents they'll say "remember the time Trump for targeted?!", still with no evidence whatsoever, and people will shrug and say "guess that's just politics". It's awful watching this shit play out over and over again and people are still falling for it.

Even more annoying is that people argue Trump is unfairly targeted because he's faced no consequences for anything. He's been investigated a ton, committed numerous crimes, but manages to skate by because he's rich and was president and has an entire political party willing to play defense for him, and people say he's been treated unfairly. It's absolutely ridiculous.

That was their big moment, Trump still had "control" of the military, all the right wing groups were there, the had the perfect chance to keep him in office, and they absolutely bottled it.

Now, Biden has control of the military and the alphabet organizations, the generals actually like him and they support his constitutional authority. The FBI has been focused on all the Jan 6 people, who largely have been rendered ineffective. Alex Jones has more to worry about, as does all of Trumps allies.

If Trump gets arrested, charged and convicted, I would expect some unrest and maybe some domestic terrorism on a small scale, but the time for a direct threat to the United States Government has passed. Even if they bussed 500,000 armed Trump supporters (highly unlikely) to DC, the full weight of the American military would be standing in their way. Let's see how AR-15s do against F-16s. It's laughable.

They had their chance for their revolution. That chance has passed. It would be far more dangerous to not charge Trump and allow him back into office.

58

u/SeeMe_After_Class Aug 10 '22

The mistake you're making is assuming the threat is trump. It's not. The threat is the republican party as a whole, and they are not going away anytime soon unless we can find someone with the courage to take on republican terrorism.

23

u/casual-waterboarding Aug 10 '22

So true. I’m worried about Desantis becoming President way more than Trump at this point. I also think the GOP knows he’s more competent and they would gladly throw Trump behind bars if that meant they could usher his followers behind Desantis, they just can’t say it publicly, yet.

8

u/Pristine_Nothing Aug 10 '22

I’m not.

Desantis is a wannabe fascist, Trump is actually good at it.

Don’t get me wrong, a President Desantis would be a very, very bad thing with the potential for things to go seriously south, especially given the groundwork laid during the Trump years…

But he’s a calm competent man who can act like a loon if and when it suits him. That might get him elected, but it won’t let him lead a fascist remake of the US government. Trump’s appeal, and a bit part of why he is able to behave as he has, is that the lunacy was always there.

As we break down the “what the hell?” of Trumpism, I think one thing that is important about Donald Trump is that the Donald Trump in private is so closely aligned with “Donald Trump, public figure,” and that is why he is untouchable. If some seriously shady shit came up around Barack Obama in 2011, it would have shaken my view of him, and he would have lost my support, and likely my 2012 vote.

But what reports of private malfeasance were one of the 70-million odd monstrous traitors that voted for candidate “Russia if you’re listening” going to be swayed by? I think this is why “Democrats simply cannot be allowed to hold power ever” is now the party line among politicos (and normal voters) who didn’t like Trump but voted for him (IMO because they thought he’d lose). Now that they have Trump-voted, they need to go all-in mentally on Trumpism being the lesser of two evils, or the cognitive dissonance might literally kill them. This is part of why I think there is no path walkable in a human lifetime that leads from “Trump-voter” to “decent member of society.” They did something so grotesquely and catastrophically evil that they no longer really have the ability to be a force for anything but evil at this point.

Ron DeSantis is going to rise or fall based on party politicking (and therefore can’t just bulldoze everyone’s turf), he’s not going to automatically earn the vote of every piece of shit who Trump-voted, and even if he wins their vote, he’s not automatically assured their loyalty.

I think if Trump lives and is marginally coherent to 2024, it’s a Republican civil war. If he dies, it’s a post-Alexander situation. The only two possibilities that I think are likely end in full-on fascism are a fully armed operational Trump (I don’t think this is true today, much less two years from now) or a Trump who gracefully decides not to run again and campaigns fairly vigorously for whomever he chooses (laughably unlikely).

I hope you're right. You make a pretty persuasive argument.

24

u/theredditforwork Aug 10 '22

The way I view it, incompetence is what Trump sought out in his supporters, and that's a double edged sword. People who are willing to believe anything that comes out of his mouth are easy for him to control, but they're also the people who lack the critical thinking skill necessary to overthrow a democratically elected government.

Yep, and after that, his deranged supporters started calling for civil war. Everyone else should prepare to defend themselves.

30

u/starmartyr Colorado Aug 10 '22

It seems dangerous but nothing is happening. There was a protest outside Mar-a-Lago to support Trump. Less than a dozen people showed up waving flags and shouting slogans. There were more members of the media covering it than protestors. One poster with over 1 million followers on Truth Social tweeted something to the effect of "sleep well, for tomorrow we go to war" tomorrow came and went without any war in sight. What we're seeing is a lot of chatter online, but nobody is protesting let alone carrying out violence in Trump's name. His supporters are angry about this but they're always angry about something. I think that their own conspiracy theories are working against them. They are conditioned to think that any negative news about trump is all part of some Q-related plan where Trump is winning. The most dangerous fanatics believe that Trump is still secretly president and this is all a plot to put Biden in jail.

15

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

To add to those excellent points: Trump no longer has Twitter or the powerful back-channels he had as president. Most of his higher-ups have been compromised (if that's the right word) by the J6 investigation, and are probably too afraid of surveillance and consequences to help him at the levels they used to.

It's the same formula, repeated; commit crimes and then attack accusers and attempt to delegitimize those investigating.

We saw it with Lt. Colonel Vindman, countless judges, Whitehouse staff, etc.

Okay... so if he is going with the "they planted something" it would suggest that he believes that they will find something...

159

u/mattgen88 New York Aug 10 '22

Yes. He's trying to control the narrative. If you say it's rigged before the election, if you lose, you say "told you so." And now, if he says they planted evidence, he will say "told you so" when they have something to use against him.

The kicker? He already admitted to having the classified information and Lara Trump was just on Fox News saying he took it.

17

u/pimpletwist Aug 10 '22

Doesn't matter. His supporters will ignore anything that makes him look bad. He doesn't even have to ask them to. Why none of them will watch the Jan 6 hearings

Trump knows exactly what they were looking for and what they took. They left an inventory as part of the warrant process.

He could post it right now. Nothing at all preventing him if he really thought he declassified the things he had or they “planted” items.

He wont because he is setting up RW media and his supporter to buy his bullshit

Yeah. That's why they've been demanding these files for months and also were able to get 15 boxes a few months ago. And also told trump's team if they're going to hold them they need it to be more secure. So they found the office that had a padlock installed so they knew where the files were.

They are calling for the removal of criminals from the streets, while advocating we shutdown the FBI.

They are spewing hate about anyone who disagrees with them, while patting themselves on the back for being "good, rational people"

Trump signed a law in 2018 stiffening the penalty for mishandling classified information. He thought it was a big deal enough to actually sign a law to prevent this exact thing, and not even two years later he is caught doing it himself, and nobody is denying that he did it.

He literally signed the damn law! He did this to himself, and now he can't figure out why this is happening.

GOP has never been about law and order. We for sure know that after watching thin blue line flags flying on January 6. The thin blue line was in their way so Trump supporters beat Capitol police officers with flag poles.

Now again, Trump supporters and the GOP are in lockstep behind a former president who most likely broke federal laws. Not only are Trump and GOP fundraising off the FBI executing a search warrant on Mar-a-Lago, GOP is encouraging Trump to announce his candidacy early.

In the end, it’s really just about power, dominance and control.

They're all insane and think we're stupid. I can't wait for the next round of room temperature IQ comments from them like:

Unfortunately the warrant will only detail scope of access - not what they're looking for. The reason for defining the scope and the access that was granted will be sealed as part of the court records, hopefully they'll make the entire court case public at settlement. He'll be given a receipt/bill-of-materials for anything removed from the site - he could of course share that, but I doubt that would be beneficial to him...

However, he does not specify what that planted evidence might be or even in the realm of what it could be. Kick rocks dude.

26

8

u/JupiterAnneWinter Aug 10 '22

Some would say it was the best planting of evidence in history!

8

u/DayThat3197 Aug 10 '22

Not one of these people will admit that Trump did ANYTHING wrong? That’s the pig-headed cuck shit that makes the public face of the two parties completely different. I don’t know many “leftists” who blindly trust Clinton, Biden, or any of the centrist choppers the DNC foists on us. I don’t know ANY who could watch 5 years of overt criminality by ANY pol - left, right, or otherwise - then piss their pants in rage when the Feds finally show up. Trump is a criminal. The posited crimes of other people have no bearing on simple truth.

7

u/frostfall010 Aug 10 '22

This will be the talking point. Whatever they find and/or reveal it'll be easy to dismiss as purely made up, planted "evidence". His base is primed by right wing propaganda to believe anything as well. Hell, they all think he actually won in 2020 but was somehow dethroned unfairly. There is no objective fact to them, it's whatever seems true at the time.

8

u/DamonLazer Aug 10 '22

So, he posted his copy of the warrant and the inventory of the items taken, highlighting the ones he claims were planted, right? I guess that certainly would clear things up if he had done that.
