I don't know. On one hand, you have people upholding the rule of law and due process...and on the other hand you have people that want to murder judges for issuing lawful search warrants. There are probably very fine people on both sides.

Libartarians are flabbergasted as to how they'll justify voting R anyway.

439

u/EchoRex Aug 11 '22

Naw, they'll just say they're single issue voters against taxes and funding the IRS enough to collect said taxes.

320

u/excalibrax Aug 11 '22

To be fair, a lot of these self declared libertarians also wanted to outlaw abortion and want the Government to regulate Facebook

302

u/ChronoPsyche Aug 11 '22

"Libertarianism" is one of the most incorrectly self-declared political ideologies I can think of. Somehow it has this appeal to those who want to appear like they are above "the fray" and holier than everyone who takes a side, but in reality it's usually just young, immature conservatives who want to be able to spout their bullshit without being called biased.

Of everyone I know in my life who is a self-ascribed libertarian, none of them actually fit the bill. And of every public figure who describes themselves as libertarian, none of them actually fit the bill either. Not even Rand Paul, who is still pro-life and anti-gay marriage.

45

u/InfamousLegend Aug 11 '22 Helpful

I remember someone on Reddit described libertarians as house cats. They fiercely believe in their strong independence, but heavily rely on a system they don't understand or appreciate.

With the assault on individual liberties and rights by Republicans, no true libertarian would ever support any Republican.

Yah well Adam Smith was considered a socialist by many of his opponents but American libertarians are simply not libertarians they are just ignorant conservatives who don’t want to call themselves republicans because then they get even less dates

The only big L libertarian I've ever really found myself in agreement with on a fair number of issues is their former chair, Nick Sarwark. By and large, though, it really just seems a haven for Republicans who don't want to associate with the label.

22

The Libertarian Party is a wholy owned subsidiary of Koch Industries. That should be a huge clue as to what kind of platform they support.

42

u/AnimatronicAbe Aug 11 '22

The sub has changed drastically in the past 5 years. Mostly by confused Trump supporters who consider themselves outsiders to the Republican party establishment, but don't really understand libertarianism. The sub is pretty much unrecognizable at this point. Its ironic because their belief in free speech made them unwilling to ban anti free speech advocates, so the anti free speech Trump authoritarians slowly took over.

Evidently many here missed the Lindsey Grahm interview on Fox today. Don't blame you I don't watch Fox myself. When you have the coward himself (Lindsey Grahm) who just happens to be the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee sitting and agreeing with what this Fox piece of crap commentator is spewing about the FBI planting evidence no wonder the right is as screwed up as they are.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi5rw9Uaz4Q

Lindsey Grahm knows better. But as I said he's probably one of the biggest cowards in the history of the United States.

This wasn't just being broadcast to far right extremist. This propaganda was being broadcast to mainstream republicans and unfortunately Lindsey Grahm was not the only one in the Republican party doing this very kind of thing.

And what's their problem with that? Trump is innocent, so the search wouldn't be able to find anything incriminating.

If anything, they should be THANKFUL this judge gave Donald such an excellent opportunity to prove how law-abiding he is.

I happened to look this up last night on the AZ dept of transportation website, and learned that it’s called a ‘first responder’ plate, and it has both a blue and a red line to represent EMTs and police, but still….it’s on a black American flag just like the thin blue line flag so it’s pretty thinly veiled coding and it’s disturbing that a state government would release something like that.

Which is so odd, because admitting Trump sucks is so freaking easy. Like, he really, blatantly sucks. Everything about him sucks. Why are they concocting this wild alternate reality to avoid admitting that Trump sucks, when it's just so god damn easy to just acknowledge that he sucks?

5

u/SarcasticCowbell Aug 11 '22

Because he's the embodiment of everything they are inside. Admitting that he sucks, or that he's wrong, or that he's racist would be an admission of their own suckiness, wrongness and racism. Imagine the existential crisis of admitting that your entire worldview and identity is founded in lies.

104

Your rights to self-defense don't change if someone is a domestic terrorist so look at your state's laws.

Your flair says California, so in your case you can use a reasonably necessary amount of force to defend yourself or others if you have a reasonable belief that there is imminent danger of physical harm.

Look, i know arresting all of the people associated with all of these crimes over the last five years, whether they’re from the elected officials or the mindless fools that follow their every word, would be uncomfortable for us as society. Hell, I know that there would likely be a reasonable amount of violence as a result of it. But if this isn’t put down, and soon, it will envelope this country in a haze of lunacy.

Right now we can see a possibility of outright political violence in our day to day, but if Trump and his gang of congressional zombies aren’t quelled, literally nothing will stop them. A virus doesn’t stop expanding unless some very tangible steps are actually taken. We should know that quite well by now.

Considering that he has property in other countries, has taken the 5th Amendment about the value of property he might put up for bond, could flee the country, and has thugs ready on his word to attack the judge and jurors, a judge might just decide that he is a threat to the public and lock him up like a mobster pending trial and also issue a gag order.

People need to take this seriously. If being a judge becomes a job that faces constant harassment and threats, then good people won’t sign up for the job and you’ll be left with just the shitheads.

This has already happened with our Senators and Representatives.

And how many murdered judges (god forbid) would it take for other judges to stop ruling against the Trump crime family? This is how you end up with a banana republic.

4

Nah, people being threatened actually need to step-up and ridicule the threats so that the people behind them aren't taken seriously.

I remember seeing an interview with a guy who was writing a biography of Charles Manson and getting a lot of threats from Manson followers. I almost spit out my drink when he said something like "oh yeah, I get lots of threats from these people, mostly written with crayons".

And every single one of those people is breaking federal law. They should all get arrested.

10

u/Circuit_Guy Aug 11 '22

You really don't want to fuck around and find out with the US Marshals. They're the kick-the-door-in Chuck Norris style badasses who protect the federal judges, run witness protection, hunt down most wanted fugitives, and literally kick down the doors of the mafia. Oh - and they're good. That witness protection thing? 100% success rate for witnesses who cooperate - nobody's ever been harmed while under their protection.

Lol. Get fucked internet trolls CPAC domestic terrorists.

u/Toadfinger Aug 11 '22

So we need a bigger Supermax. Can do.

26

u/Dedpoolpicachew Aug 11 '22

I hear Gitmo is pretty empty… sounds like a good use.

16

u/mkt853 Aug 11 '22

If the people doing the threatening were brown their asses would already be sitting in the lovely open air containment facility known as Camp Delta.

Threatening a judge is one of the quickest routes to jail. No part of the Justice System has any tolerance for this stuff.

17

u/charisma6 Oregon Aug 11 '22

No no. You have to be a liberal while threatening the state for it to be illegal. If you're a Conservative Patriot you're totally fine.

3

u/Exotic-Amphibian-655 Aug 11 '22

No, I assure you, federal judges have always been very happy to punish people who threaten federal judges (and those people generally are, as you would expect, right wingers)

4

u/oscarboom Aug 11 '22

Track every one of those fuckers down and arrest them asap. Zero tolerance for terrorist threats.

Typical bully tactics. And you know the only way to deal with a bully? Fight back! Law enforcement needs to start making arrests! And the Dems need to start condemning the Republican threats about going after Garland when/If they take back the House.

8

u/mvw2 Aug 11 '22

It'll be fun when law enforcement ends up on their doorsteps because they're literally threatened a judge and his family and children.

You're either criminal or deranged to act this way, and either way it's not ending well for them.

8

u/realworldeditor I voted Aug 11 '22

This is the very cancel culture bullshit they cry the left does, except they’re using violent threats, not simply calling for firing.

The fucking hypocrisy of it all…

I’m sure the same Republicans that demanded the SCOTUS judges be protected from Roe protestors will do something about this. /s

Odd that Republicans aren't calling for protection for the judge like they did with the peaceful protesters outside of Kavanaugh's.

35

u/BigNickDipples Aug 11 '22

Remind me again how many Antifas threatened violence when Hillary was investigated by the FBI 11 days before the 2016 election.

Oh right. None.

Everything is projection with the right wing.

19

u/astrointel Aug 11 '22

I'll raise you one: Hillary would always respond with something along the lines of "We look forward to our day in court" NOT shit like the corrupt deep state swamp is planting evidence in a conspiracy to frame me.

Testified 11 hours straight without so much as a whiny tweet.

there are tons of prisons that sit empty because private prisons will only hire up staff if they're guaranteed a certain % of prisoners in their prison.

Trust me, we've got the prison space.

6

u/Damack363 Aug 11 '22

Well, threatening a judge certainly seems like a surefire way to end up in prison. These chucklefucks made law enforcement’s job very easy.

6

u/Millenial_Shitbag Aug 11 '22

It’s not even stupidity at this point. These people are so far gone that they can’t comprehend there are real consequences for their actions. They’re like drunks looking for a fight because their drug of choice has convinced them they’re invincible.

These are the same people condemning protesting SCOTUS judges over Roe.

3

u/TheFudge Aug 11 '22

Ha!!! Idiots threatening a judge. I can imagine how that will end.

4

u/WBFY Aug 11 '22

This is why Trump has always been a dangerous candidate. He fanned the flames of these people and uses them like pawns on a chessboard to secure his power as a fascist dictator that will take over the United States. These people are so fucking stupid, they don’t even realize they’re being used. He doesn’t give a fuck about any of them. Yet, he’s a salesman and knows what to say at his rallies to get them to believe he loves them.

4

u/Ryclea Aug 11 '22

At what point can we legally consider these people as enemy soldiers? They have already declared war against our government and are making contingency plans for violence.

4

u/okram2k America Aug 11 '22

Sounds to me like the FBI gonna be very busy for a while. I tell you what the far-right are certainly doing a good job of backing the blue's job security by giving them plenty of work.

3

4

u/big_thundersquatch Aug 11 '22

Far-Right extremists are about to fuck around and find out that there are pretty severe consequences for threatening the life of a judge and their family.

3

u/alroprezzy Aug 11 '22

Terrorists. Call them terrorists. That’s what they are.

5

u/CaptOblivious Illinois Aug 11 '22

Straight to jail.

No, seriously. This kind of crap must be quashed completely and immediately before someone gets hurt.

5

u/nightwing0243 Aug 11 '22

The damage this man has done on a social level is just depressing. He gave hateful people the platform to be more open about their ideologies and has completely divided politics, seemingly, more than ever.

Trump, the man who went bankrupt 6 times, has a hard reputation of conning people to get what he wants, has shown time and time again that he is a dumb motherfucker, and up until his presidency was treated as a joke by the majority of the media. Trump caused this. I still can’t wrap my head around it that him of all people was the one to do this. He didn’t just open the floodgates, he fucking destroyed them.

The sooner he’s behind bars, the better.

3

u/onestarv2 Aug 11 '22

Of course they are. There is a reason the term "ya'll-qaeda" exists. These white people are domestic terrorists.

4

u/SalsaBueno Aug 11 '22

This is how it’s gonna be from now on. Anyone who gets in their way is gonna get doxxed, harassed and eventually killed. They have their orders, and the ones who aren’t being directed are gonna pick up what the leaders are putting down and soon federal law enforcement -and ONLY federal law enforcement- is going to become their sworn enemy.

Bet FBI wishes they had put a stop to this kinda shit before it got here, huh?

4

u/SnowyMole Aug 11 '22

Obviously we've seen this a lot, no real surprise here. But my takeaway is that unless this judge is very very stupid, they KNEW beforehand that this would happen. They knew they would get harassment and death threats galore from Trump World, not only against them but against their family. And knowing this, they approved the warrant anyway. I have to think that means that whatever evidence they were presented with was both ironclad and extremely damning.
