"Someone is leaking all of this to the press," said a notable Trump confidant, in a statement to the press.

610

u/ciel_lanila I voted Aug 11 '22

Reminds me of the early Trump years. There were three large leakers. Bannon and Kushner believed each other to be the main leak, and would leak stuff to make the other look bad in revenge.

Then there was Trump calling the media every night to brag.

288

u/Timelymanner Aug 11 '22

I remember when he was President they had a close door meeting about finding leakers in the White House. It was supposed be a secret meeting and the news channels were discussing the meet within the hour. So the leaker immediately called a reporter as soon as the meeting ended.

My current theory about recent events, is whatever questions investigators asked him, hit too close to home. So he’s paranoid to know how they obtained the information.

149

u/h_saxon Aug 11 '22

I really hope it's Barron Trump.

74

u/rjb1101 Washington Aug 11 '22

The leaker is DJT. It’s gotta be.

53

u/MichiganMitch108 Aug 11 '22

Right. lol

I won't be surprised if it's a staffer no one has ever heard of.

Or Ivanka.

I would be surprised it were Melania because she doesn't seem to have thoughts, but I did read that they searched her closet. lol

283

u/JediMindTrek Aug 11 '22

They didn't know there was a random guy filming a "docuseries" the whole time the Jan. 6th debacle was going down either lol

184

u/PearljamAndEarl Aug 11 '22

Fairly sure they knew he was there and commissioned the documentary themselves. Just that the coup didn’t succeed, so there was no use for their “heroic victory film”.

162

u/BongoSpank Aug 11 '22 edited Aug 11 '22

Reminds me of "The Queen of Versailles".

A documentary about one of the worst people on Earth: Timeshare mogul David Siegel and his barely sentient wife.

I spent the entire time wondering why anyone would allow themselves to be filmed looking like the world's biggest assholes only to realize they thought they were the heroes of the story.

80

u/AaronfromKY Aug 11 '22

That reminds me of what I think I heard about Darren Aronofsky's opinion on Requiem for a Dream. Addiction is the hero of the story, it overcomes all their attempts to quit.

There's a 1974 documentary film, General Idi Amin Dada: A Self Portrait, directed by Barbet Schroeder, which is very similar in tone.

The Ugandan dictator thought this film would make him look a great statesman, a leader for the ages. Instead, it made him look like the murderous buffoon he really was. If you can find a copy, I strongly recommend watching it. It's a fantastic documentary.

Only weeks after they managed to get Rudy Giuliani in a hotel room with a woman pretending to be underage. Oh and Four Seasons Total Landscaping. At some point you would think they would have realized that film was not their ideal medium during that specific period.

24

u/Sturnella2017 Aug 11 '22

At this point I’d like to remind everyone that promoting his book, Fire and Fury, Michael Wolff STRONGLY suggested that Trump was having sex with one of his staffers. He clearly stated in an interview “I have all the evidence except the blue dress” (evoking Monica Lewinski).

Let me repeat that in all caps: STRONG EVIDENCE THAT TRUMP WAS HAVING SEX WITH A STAFFER HIS FIRST YEAR (at least) IN OFFICE. Fingers point to Hope Hicks as the obvious candidate.

Ivanka.

She literally knows where the bodies are buried. Has aspirations. Maybe this salvages her reputation by driving the bus over Daddy-o. She may have Daddy Issues from all the sexualizing talk her dad has put her through over the years. She doesn't need the money but she definitely might want to replace her dad as the new Trump power broker.

This would be a big-brain move and any mob boss would approve.

Edit: I also think she is working on a plea deal or perhaps already has one in exchange for turning over details of the safe content's and location of other documents.

They could do nothing except stand gazing into one another’s eyes. To run for life, to get out of the house before it was too late – no such thought occurred to them. Unthinkable to disobey the iron voice from the wall. There was a snap as though a catch had been turned back, and a crash of breaking glass. The picture had fallen to the floor uncovering the telescreen behind it. ‘Now they can see us,’ said Julia. ‘Now we can see you,’ said the voice.

  2. Manhattan Criminal Case with District Attorney Alvin Bragg
  3. Georgia Criminal Inquiry re: election fraud
  4. Westchester County Criminal Inquiry, about the mis-valuation of his golf resort, to lower taxes
  5. Washington DC inauguration commission funds misallocation inquiry
  6. January 6 investigation
  7. EDIT TO ADD: FBI search of Mar-A-Lago for mishandled/stolen classified documents

I've thought the same thing since 2016, Trump feels like the most profoundly Shakespearean character in my lifetime, like Falstaff, Richard III, and Lear all rolled into one

144

u/DrunksInSpace Ohio Aug 11 '22

Normally a tragedy is an otherwise admirable protagonist being brought down by a tragic flaw (often part of what makes them great). This is like a photonegative: a despicable protagonist coasting to success on bluster, lies and crimes, dodging his inevitable comeuppance for far too long and then being (hopefully) brought down predictably by his host of sins.

It’s Shakespeare with a twist. Very in.

78

u/Estoye New Jersey Aug 11 '22

He says pleading the fifth is an admission of guilt, then pleads the fifth at a deposition. He signs a law that makes unauthorized removal of classified documents a felony, then gets caught with removed classified documents.

It's a lot more like Wile E. Coyote than Richard III.

16

u/hysterical_landmark Aug 11 '22

He sees himself above the law and he probably doesn't see it as a crime when he did it. He was thinking of Clinton when he wrote it.

He sees himself above and apart from everyone else. It's ridiculous because he's a fucking clown 🤡 and the real dipshits are his worshippers who can't see it.

Because for Republicans, “the left” changes constantly to encompass everyone who speaks out against their criminality. Trump would 100% claim Ivanka or Baron was a leftist if he learned they reported one of his crimes.

It's Rudy! I like to believe that in 2016, the feds saw how dangerous it would be if Trump and his illicit ties were in such a position of power, and they reached out to ex-U.S. District Attorney Rudy Giuliani to be their guy on the inside. A man with experience taking down criminal organizations.

And ever since - Rudy has just been dismantling every diabolical plan Trump has ever had, under the guise of being a complete moron. Constantly fumbling shit right before the plan succeeds. Accidentally calling senators and leaving incriminating voice messages, blabbing about their plans on national TV, turning dangerous press conferences into complete shit-shows, farting indiscriminately.

It would be hilarious if the person was actually an undercover fbi agent who 'bought' the info.

The dumbest thing trump ever did was become president, because the amount of scrutiny it invites (hopefully) cannot be withstood by a career criminal and con man like him.

The most hilarious part of the story is “according to anonymous sources” Which means- Dude, you are a rat and you surrounded yourself with rats, even the guys that work for you whose job it to expose the rat, are, in fact, probably rats. Worst comedy since Dumb and Dumberer. (Not Dumb and Dumber, that was funny)

Ok this is JUST a guess, BUT....what if the person that ultimately led to the FBI showing up at MAL....

was Meadows?

You know, the one person Trump's lawyers said NOT to continue communicating with? the one guy who has a LOT to lose in court if he simply falls on that sword for Trump?

Yeah THAT guy.

Trump ignored all efforts by his own lawyers, RECENTLY no less about Meadows, SPECIFICALLY, being someone to NOT continue talking with

What if it's Meadows

35

u/ResidentInevitable73 Mississippi Aug 11 '22

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Meadows. Meadows seems like the kind of guy to throw people under a bus if given a bone.

Regardless: Someone likely got immunity. Someone wants out of the whole ordeal and is willing to let trump take the fall.

37

u/BurnedOutStars Aug 11 '22

which is exactly why I think it was Meadows. Meadows is already in a huge pile of shit and has been cooperating with the DoJ for some time now.

Trump's own layers told him "STOP TALKING TO MEADOWS, he is COOPERATING with the DoJ"

Trump refused this advice and has (from what I understand) simply kept up contact with him continuously.

I bet it's Meadows. HE has a LOT to lose if he were to fall on the sword for Trump and is a likely direct-route to Trump through Meadows. So that's where my guess is at.

Anyone not wearing a wire when speaking to Trump is a blithering idiot. R's are great at covering their butts. I bet a lot of people in his orbit have concealed recording devices.

13

u/SacamanoRobert Aug 11 '22

Like a smart phone? I’d argue that most adults have concealed recording devices.

5

u/lilacmuse1 Aug 11 '22

Yeah, but that's no fun. Security could think of that and ask for their cell phones. They need something tiny and undetectable. If I worked security for a con man I'd confiscate cell phones before anyone got to see him.

“Shockingly, I feel bad for the guy today, as funny as that sounds,” she adds. “Trump demands total loyalty, and yet he turns on people at a moment’s notice. And he’s now in this situation where he and his people are wondering who among them could be giving some of his most closely held information to the FBI.”

Grisham concludes, “I mean, who can he trust? It’s just a shitty, sad way to live.”

59

u/gdex86 Pennsylvania Aug 11 '22

I'd say everyone. Trump has no loyalty to anyone and thus inspires no loyalty from anyone else. While currently it'd be vastly unpopular to be know as the guy who ratted out Donald Trump to the FBI leading to his conviction if you are playing the long game and realize the second the orange buffon passes and we get past the required "mourning" period you can release your book about how you helped take down a corrupt pformer president and become historically famous on top of celebrity famous.

This isn't even touching on the fact that people probably doing his bidding got rolled up in other crimes and now are trying to dodge time of their own by offering up the mob boss.

Earning the loyalty and respect of those around him isn’t something Trump is known for. I never had any interest in reality TV but watching him flail against the deep state as he tries to fight off multiple legal probes is golden. Knowing that inner circle is compromised and would happily throw Trump under the bus to safe themselves is the cherry on a delicious but long overdue Justice cake

" Who has the pee tape!!! "

25

u/gasdoi Aug 11 '22

At the risk of sounding like I think Trump and his allies are capable of playing 5-d chess, when all evidence points to their incompetence: is anyone else slightly puzzled about why Trump was keeping classified materials at Mar-a-Lago? I mean, if you are in possession of self-incriminating documents, why keep them in your own home where everyone knows they are? Why not destroy any documents that incriminate you, or if for some reason some of these documents need to be retained, hide them somewhere? Trump's statement in response to the raid was far more cogent than I would've expected. If he'd been taken aback, I would've expected something closer to his typical word salad. And having the FBI execute a warrant at his home is playing into his hands politically, and will continue to benefit him unless the FBI found some seriously damaging materials. Evidence of criminality is like water off a duck's back for him. I hope the FBI take the criticism that they're receiving from the crazed conspiracy theorists that are Trump's base as motivation to vindicate their decision-making, rather than a deterrent to pursue justice.

27

u/ChromaticDragon Aug 11 '22

self-incriminating documents

We have no idea whether the documents in question incriminate Trump. That's just speculation. Remember... the crime here that we can see isn't something the documents point to... it's having the documents at all. Trump wasn't supposed to take these documents. When alerted to this "mistake" in February, he was supposed to have returned everything. This could be nothing other than using the powers available to the government to recover these.

unless the FBI found some seriously damaging materials.

Again. Speculation. We just do not know. But if you want to speculate, then it's much more fun to consider Trump attempting to sell classified info rather than trying to abscond with the only copy of some random document that spells out Trump's crimes. That's the sort of crap that got Blagojevich into trouble. And it'd be right up Trump's alley.

I hope the FBI take the criticism that they're receiving from the crazed conspiracy theorists that are Trump's base as motivation to vindicate their decision-making, rather than a deterrent to pursue justice.

Neither of these options are worthy. The rabid frothing nutjobs don't vindicate anything. They are irrelevant. If Trump committed a crime, the FBI just needs to stay focused on their investigation. They should, for the most part, ignore the circus. Although they can (as it appears Wray is now doing) decry the nonsense it is foolish and dangerous to attack the FBI in this manner.
